- A little room tour through my home away from home!
The AX27 from TheBushCompany with the 270 XT awning - a perfect combination for me.
And to access my roof top tent I got the foldable, super lightweight ladder from HGM Rack. The same guys that produced my roof rack!

Love this ladder.
it is really cool!! love it too
Love that ladder design
it doesn't take up any space and it's always with me 😎
I also have a AX27 on my Grenadier!
nice! are you happy with it?
@@grenadier_exploring will you ever chop the roof for a roof tent example from alu-cab
I think I saw you today, driving East on the Fernpassstrasse near Nassereith, Austria.
hey. obviously there is an impersonator on the road 🤪🤪. i am currently at work in Seoul 🤷🏼♂️ and not with my beloved Loki
😂@@grenadier_exploring
That ladder is very 😎! From Steve near Chester England 🇬🇧 where the Roman's once lived.
thx! I love it...extremly light, easy to handle, stable, always with you
The HGM roof rack, the XT270 awning and the AX27 plus your maxtracx and ladder will all add up to way over the dynamic load limit for the IG which is 150kgs. Does this not worry you? Both in terms of instability but also potentially invalidating insurance should you tip over in an accident.
i do understand your concerns and that's something everyone has to decide for himself. It does not bother me that I am at 160/165kg on my roof. I tried my best to minimise the load but that's the setup I want. The car can handle it.
I have the tent on my car only when I go overlanding. It Is only a 15min process to remove it. That doesn't change anything when it's mounted but the rest of the time i am "safe".
Hallo, immer interessant! Kann man die Leiter über Dich beziehen oder wer vertreibt sie?
Servus! die bekommt man über hgm-rack.at 😉
Nice setup! Love the smooth real-time deployment. One thing I always question with roof tents, is their wind stability. I know Norway can get pretty windy - have you experienced much and if so, how did your setup cope? I don't fancy being closed in the clamshell!
i was worried about that as well when i planned our trip. the tent is stable and for very windy conditions you have straps to tie down the rain fly. In addition you got a telescopic pole (stored inside the tent) to secure the tent in the open position (also in case you have a heavy load on top of the tent). So you shouldn't end up in the clamshell 😝. but of course we had a couple of noisy nights up there due to the strong winds - especially when getting closer to the North Cape....
Very interesting, thanks for the feedback and all the Grenadier info. I've had mine two weeks now and loving it. Can't find many faults, but the heater could be stronger, a bit like a Defender! No rogue warning lights or tell-tale issues - it had a firmware update at delivery. One thing I did hear from the dealer was that the gen1 vehicles were having the transfer case swapped for a modified design. Not sure if that might help you - it's a rolling update dependent on original production date.@@grenadier_exploring
congrats!! i am loving mine too and don't have any issues. the seals for the safari windows have been changed and the software updated last month. now it's perfect. and yes, I agree, the heater could be stronger. maybe there will be an update as well. I read in a forum that topping up the a/c fluid and releasing the trapped air, helps 🤷🏼♂️.
Thx - did hear about the transmission as well. my dealer is great and so far he didn't mention a transfer case swap. i have no problems with it but of course i wanna have the latest version as well 😎.
where did you buy the tent? I live in Spain. thanks
hi. I bought it at an online shop: www.dachzelt-shop.de
was quite happy with the price, service and speed of processing.
Danke, ich schau mal nach. @@grenadier_exploring
Hi Ingemar,
I am one of your followers on your channel, which is informative and helps me as a new Grenadier owner. You are doing a great job explaining everything regarding the Grenadier.
How long does it usually take to install the tent and the awning? And how much did it cost you?
Eisa
Hello Eisa! First of all, thank you and I am happy that I can help a bit.
The awning is mounted on the side of the tent, so I can remove both in one step. It is bolted to the car with 12 screws and it takes me 15-30mins max to install or remove it. Lifting it, is the most difficult part but I have a winch on the ceiling of my garage, so that's easy as well now. before I used a friend´s forklift which works well but needs some organisation.
I paid roughly 1600EUR (1750$) for the awning and 4200EUR (4575$) for the tent. Not cheap but I think it's worth it. Hope that helps?!
Which configuration did you pick?
Who was your dealer? @@grenadier_exploring
www.dachzelt-shop.de
he was very helpful, great price (bought 2 tents, 2 awnings - also for a friend, so we could negotiate a little). I am afraid the website is only in german 🙈.
Thank you a lot Ingemar.@@grenadier_exploring
Have you any tricks for getting it level for sleeping?
I don't have levelling wedges cause I never really needed them. I used my sandboards and rocks so far. And the attitude indication of the Grenadier's Offroad Screen is a great help in getting the car level.
On one occasion we parked slightly uphill and I didn't want to turn around the car due to the prevailing wind that night - so we just slept with our heads towards the front of the car....works also well in this tent (enough space).
@@grenadier_exploring that's great, thanks. Enjoying your videos!
thx a lot! 🤗
How much does the tent overhang the back of the vehicle? Thank you
i moved it back to keep the safari windows free and it's roughly 20cm/7.9inches. it is far less than the spare tire stands out!
@@grenadier_exploring thankyou. Been tossing up between that or a sideways unfolding tent
@@dylangrady443 yes. had the same thoughts. went for the AX27 because you can leave blankets and pillows and clothes all up there when closing it and because you can walk on the roof of it and store additional stuff there (and mount solar panels in the future)
