  • @randysnewbiebluesrockguita7782

    Wow, he should have gotten way more applause. I just bought one of these things and it's out of this world. I'm just an intermediate player, a little over two years of practicing and after i got this, it opened up a whole new world of playing styles for me. It takes a little while to get used to using it, it does have a learning curve, but the good thing about that, being positive, is that it's FUN to play around with, even if you are just noodeling around looking for that certain sound and you can create your own patches over pre set ones, to make your own and it does it so good, that there is NO latency, and of course you can create your own patches from scratch. I like to play stuff like Genesis's old tunes and this thing is right on the money if you want to emulate Steve Hackett. Using the 4 separate patches at once, you can create almost anything you want to, or can think of. If you are thinking about getting one, remember that you do have to mount the GK3 pick up on your guitar and you have an option to actually drill holes into the body of the guitar to hold the mount, but they supply sticky pad's for the same thing, and they work really well as the unit is also mounted from the strap knob hole and supported under the body of the guitar. I put a piece of felt under the body support so it didn't scratch my PRS and you can also use the sticky pad's for mounting the unit to the guitar and they will come off clean if you want to remove them. Personally I am NOT drilling holes in my expensive guitar. Although setting the unit up is not very hard, and installing the pick up is easier that it look's, I still brought it to my guitar guy to do it all for me and it was only 50.00 for the whole job, and he actually went through it with me so I had a good understanding of how to use it. I say if you know what yer doing then save the cash, but if your anything like me and these sort of gadget's, I'd bring it to someone who know's what they are doing so you can plug and play. One other thing is that it also requires you to learn new picking styles. Over all I love the thing ,and it was all right around a grand for everything.

      The patches are available from Roland from the Artist collection. It has Eric Johnson, Jeff Loomis, Steve Stevens, Rob Marcello, and a few others. Also the V Guitar forum has thousnds and the best user support in the world. I'm 5 months into mine and I would echo what Randy says. There is also an editor available that's out of this world also. Best gear purchase I ever made. Its a new world with this unit. I'm practicing my one man gig like Gundy just demo'd. Look at Rob Marcello and the great Alex Hutchins and James here czcams.com/video/tmsio4QHJuI/video.html It is really a fantastic unit and takes time, but well worth the expansive music horizons. Bro i guess the audio was recorded directly through the mixer and the microphones used for capturing the audio were the stage mics which focused and captured only the stage audio and not the crowd. I have been to some few shows where the crowd was on fire but on the video clip we could hear only the stage audio. I'm not a tech guy but i guess it has something to do with the type of microphone and recording technique.

    People complain about the sounds. The built-in ones ARE cheesy, but get one. Spend a long time with it and tweak the patches A LOT (you can save/rename them to 'User' slots). Dampen both the extraneous resonances on your strings and elsewhere on the guitar to lessen mis-triggers. Clean up your playing! Mis-triggers mostly happen because you are sloppy and touch stuff that you didn't intend to. Get Floorboard - the menus are deep. DO NOT USE A GUITAR AMP - use a good PA. After that (6 months to a year later?), you'll realise how good it is.

    • @grajem26
      @grajem26 Před 6 lety +1

      I Agree completely, is a long hard way but is well worth the efford, I have being playing live with it for about 6 months now, and it hasn,t been without suffering I might add, but forcing myself to make it work , studying a lot, and it really has payed off, I cant imagine a better tool to play live than the GR 55 , I am a solo artist, so most of my problems where that I usually emulate percussion with my guitar so needless to say my type of playing is by far the cleanest one, I had a ton of trouble regulating synth sounds to not trigger off when I didnt want them to, lately I have paired it with a BOSS RC 300 and it just made my life so much easier, now I can loop my verses with percussion in my guitar and use the more finesse requiring synths like a sax for example while my backing track runs in my RC 300, so overall spyte all of the problems that come with it, it is just a world of fun.

    • @avalerionbass
      @avalerionbass Před 6 lety

      I agree as well. I've had mine for a year and actually use it on bass guitar. With enough tweaking and practicing your instrument to prevent miss triggered notes, it totally works.

  • @ryandevison
    @ryandevison Před 12 lety

    @hedgehogwarrior Depends on what guitar you have. If you get the 13 pin pick-up added on to your guitar, your normal guitar signal goes through the GR-55. Unless if you bought some 1/4 cord that had 1 input and 2 outputs, then your regular guitar signal wont be touched. Guitars with built in 13-pin puckups have at least 2 inputs. one for 13 pin and one for 1/4. I Had a 13 pin added on and it was interferring with my strings, so i took it of. I will be buying a new guitar with 13-pin built in.

    Is there any problem with latency ou low tracking in GR 55? Have someone of you ever compared this to other GRs such as 20 , 30, 33 or any other guitar synthesizer? It seems to me that GR33 sound more “fat” sound... And how about all those guitar and amp simulations? Are they really good? I mean, could someone compare to VG 88, for example? I Just can’t try one of these alive. Thanks for the answer!

  • @taikoking1
    @taikoking1 Před 11 lety

    One thing that I did notice was that in many occasions, he was covering the top E string with his thmb, I am assuming to prevent the E string from emitting unwanted signal to the synth. If you look at when he is playing Pat Metheny licks, you can really see him doing this. Try doing this yourself, this is very hard to do.

    Hello, I'm planning to buy this unit for my ZT-3 Custom. Will it affect my normal guitar tone? Will I be able to have "untouched" guitar signal going to my amp? Is it possible to completely turn the pick up off when I need a normal sound (I don't really want to use COSM, only synths). Also, should I consider to install it to ZT-3 or it's better use some other cheaper guitar. I just really don't wanna ruin my Steinberger tone-wise. Thanks.

      They seem to be getting better with these but
      you might want to check the Fisher Tripleplay
      The don't explain much either but it's wireless
      (completely - doesn't even plug into guitar) and
      you can split the neck 4 ways for sound - so
      possibly with the guitar able to "co exist" with it
      you be able to do what you're looking for

    i think the amp sims are horrible. but that being said i wouldnt use it for guitar sounds. i would mix the synth sounds with real guitar. i think the sound engine has a nice cheezy selection to get creative with. i think in the right hands it could really be a great source of inspiration. the presets absolutely suck. i bet the right person could really create some new shit with this. its actually a pretty good sound engine. the key is thinking like the instrument and learning about the true feel of the instrument sounds u are playing. u cant just put on a sound and noodle guitar riffs. if u are composing a horn section u have to know how to arrange horns...

You can just buy more stuff!! Also; notice that no representaions of actual musical instruments are used in this demonstration. In a day and age when guitar is about as exciting and novel as refrigerators it's generally a poor investment...but the fun factor is good.
