I don't get why people don't like young Anakin Skywalker. He never did anything wrong. He's just an innocent, cute kid with a wide sense of imagination and a big heart; he's very kind and sweet towards the people he cares about such as his friends and family. Plus, he's pretty intelligent and amazing at piloting. He even had some awesome moments such as the time he competed in the pod race and tried to help his friends in the final battle.

Really gotta feel that cheer at the end. You get the same with the Rebels and the destruction of both Death Stars, but the Rebels are a military insurgency winning big but used to battles. The Naboo Royal Starfighter Corps represent a peaceful world, and at least according to the Legends book Plagueis were only created a few years before the events of TPM. The worst they've had to contend with are pirates, they've never been in a battle before. They just kicked the Trade Federation's ass, after they took control of their planet and put their people into concentration camps. That's got to feel good. It'd be like Malta's tiny military kicking Amazon out of their country
Anakin went from driving a pod racer, to unexpectedly piloting a Naboo fighter and destroying their control ship, and becoming the Galaxy’s best Jedi pilot. He truly went from amateur to professional.
He really wasn't, the minute autopilot was off, he got shot down and spun right into the hanger bay area. Comparatively, Bravo Squadron last way longer than Anakin in actual combat.
Gotta love how this entire attack would’ve completely failed if this 9 year old didn’t accidentally himself into everything and blowing up the entire ship
Not just the space battle. If Anakin hadn't destroyed those Droidekas,clearing the path for Padme's forces,the ground Invasion may have failed as well.
He grew up on Tatooine, a planet full of harsh deserts and even more harsh people. He's a tough kid to be sure, he's probably seen worse in the Pod Races.
What people don't realize that this right here already showed Anakin's rebellious streak that would be one of his major flaws throughout the trilogy. He wants to do the right thing even as Artoo and even the ship itself is telling him to go back
I just want to say those Naboo pilots are one of the bravest men I ever seen. They are probably facing one or the most devastating firepower and quantity disadvantages, and yet they are still trying their best to finish their mission, a big salute to them.
When we first met Anakin in this movie. He was just a little innocent kid who went from being a slave to a badass pilot who help & saved Naboo. But a decade later, in AOTC, things went from good to bad.

Man, looking back on Episode 1, Jake Lloyd did a damn good job for his age. For how...well, intentionally stilted some of the prequel dialogue is, this whole scene really sells he knew how to work with what he had.
I like the parallels to other SW movies in this scene 0:00 this is a mirrored version of the Rebel ships launching from their base, heading towards the Death Star 0:09 Pilots check in 1:36 The turbolaser shot is also a mirrored version of the Death Star's cannons firing when the fighters begin their attack run 1:47 brief Return of the Jedi parallel when the TIE Fighters first come in during the Battle of Endor 2:39 Anakin pulls the same trick in Episode 3 to rescue Palpatine 3:19 Not only is this an ROTJ mirror by destroying the reactor with torpedoes but it also references how Luke blew up the Death Star 4:12 Large metal sphere blows up... do I even need to say it
The early deathstar designs where actually made by the trade federation. In AOTC we also see these kinds of spheres without the ring around it. The connection is even there in-universe
Controversial take - this wasn't a bad movie. I was about 8-9 when this movie came out, my folks rented it from a corner store in my local small town and we got to watch it over a weekend and I became completely absorbed. Not long after we bought the cassette classic trilogy and the theatrical release film for PM when I was about 10 or 11. I'll still never get over this space battle, or the amazing sound of the Vulture Droids as they screech through the black skies above Naboo, easily picking off fighter craft that are clearly designed to be ornamental and not at all standard issue for highly militarized space combat. It really sucks that it took Disney's crap trilogy to highlight we didn't have it all that bad. I will miss this Star Wars.

You know, even though he is a kid in this, he really does have enormous amounts of skill. Especially for one of his age. I mean think about it, he was able to evade being shot in the middle of a heated battlefield and then when he was finally hit he was able to successfully land a crippled Starfighter into a crowded hanger without hitting anything. Say what you will but that takes a lot of skill

The Naboo starfighter was put on autopilot, so it took him straight to the location the other fighters were gathered on the GPS and just began orbiting the control ship waiting for the next instruction. Because he was just flying in circles, not even the droids could predict what he was gonna do as this random other ship just barrelled recklessly into their formations and forced them all to break off from their attacks. Then when Anakin got out of auto pilot he started doing so much random and dangerous shit that the droid fighters chasing him still couldn't predict what the heck this rando newbie was gonna do- spinning randomly, doing barrel rolls and flying so close to the main ship that the fighters had to bank sharply just to keep up with him, which made me laugh.
I feel bad for Jake Lloyd. He got such much undeserved hate and the flak he got from people verbally attacking a 9 year old caused him to quit acting
