    This is called: How to Make Vegan Kefir and the Health Benefits of Kefir, Dairy and Gluten-free Probiotics.
    Hello I’m Jeff and I’m from Think Your Happy, this is a healthy, happy body video.
    I think that there is a close relationship between the mind and the body.
    I have found after many years of dietary allergies (gluten, dairy, eggs) that I have noticed a close relationship between the stomach and how the mind feels, Kefir is one of those foods that helps keep my mind healthy and feeling balanced.
    I prefer a more vegan-based diet because of health issues and ethical issue and because of a dairy allergy I take vegan, non-dairy Kefir.

    I tried making non-dairy kefir with a can of coconut milk, I warmed it and mixed in a tablespoon of inulin as for some reason I thought this might help (please if someone knows if this is true or not could you let me know) - added some kefir grains and left it for 36 hours.
    It worked!
    However, what I didn't account for is that coconut milk (from a can) is a natural and rather powerful diuretic... Although it tasted great blended with some blueberries, and had definitely fermented - the next morning... Well... Thank god for immodium.
    I wanted to make a dairy free version as I am also lactose intolerant (but the sort where on a sunny day I'll declare 'life is for the living!' have an ice cream and play russian roulette with my stomach and bathroom availability ) tmi? Apologies.
    Well, anyway, I've found that homemade kefir doesn't hit like other dairy (can't say the same for shop bought kefir) so for non-vegan but dairy intolerant people, I'd recommend making some and giving it a try - the grains eat lactose and turn them into lactic acid, so unless yours is very severe you will probably be fine.
    I'll be trying other dairy free kefir recipes over the next few weeks, so if anyone's interested just drop a comment below.

    What a fantastic video, thank you. I have been vegetarian for almost forty years and always loved my kefir, but some months back decided to give up all dairy. So I have been searching for weeks for a good oat milk recipe as we love oat milk in our tea. However, everyone says you still have to rest your grains in dairy milk every so often? I do not want to do that. Will they just die? Other people say use a little maple syrup or dates? Have you any advice please?

    I am making my vegan kefir for month now and is with soya milk (organic) I wonder if drinking soya few times a week is ok 🤔 I was looking for information if vegan version is same beneficial so thank you for sharing.
    I start with life grains - but i think there was no vegan .. also in your link they are milk... or I messing something here
    Oat milk didint work..I try to find some almond (organic - maybe more fat) and coconut .. which I am not big fan...as is to sweet - but comparing on this from shop - maybe homemade is different.
    I don't have freezer so I need produce constantly ... sometimes I just put them in milk to the fridge for few days break :)
    but I don't have this nice ball of grains .. they are all over and I never could separate them fully from kefir ..which is quite creamy . so I just transfer this to fresh milk .. hm not sure If that is correct
    And I wonder if adding a little of klone syrup will fed them better
    and after kefir is made someone was adding slice of lemon skin ...
    I don't know how I will recognize when they finish ..working hmm

      My grains were specifically for Vegan, non-dairy based milk, you can buy them er in the UK. . but have heard that you can put them in dairy milk every 3-4 times to give them a break. But they seem to love creamy coconut milk from a tin which I occasionally do.

    Hiya.. great video.. thanks! I read that you have to feed it dairy every so often to keep it alive.. have you found that it doesn’t need this?

    • @jeffjamesthinkyourhappy165
      @jeffjamesthinkyourhappy165  Před 2 lety +1

      Not so much, I think that it helps but to be honest I tend to use Coconut milk which is higher in fats that's seem to revive the Kefir culture.

    How do you keep your milk kefir grains happy? Do you change their environment every week or so? Get them strong in milk and then doing a few batches of almond and coconut milk? A video about tall this will be super helpful.

    • @jeffjamesthinkyourhappy165
      @jeffjamesthinkyourhappy165  Před 2 lety +1

      i tend to use different types of milk, ie almond, oat, and coconut for variety, the grains seem to enjoy a fatty environment ie heavier creamier milk like good coconut cream, I do use dairy milk sometimes and they seemed to enjoy that, but this was for my family as I never drink dairy milk. to be honest, though the kefir I make with almond or coconut milk seems to be the best, really fizzy which means there is lots of probiotics in them.

    What kind of kefir are you using? Is it waterkefir? As milk kefir needs the lactose to grow and to live onto. As a vegan you do not want to use dairy ...

      I’ve used both I use dairy free milk with the milk cultures and sugar based water with the vegan ones. I prefer the more yogurty texture with coconut milk personally but personal and ethical preference. ⭐️⭐️💜💜
