    Caruso is definitely an acquired taste. Once you acquire it, though, you quickly realize there is something there. He's like cinnamon...too much is too much, but the right amount makes everything better.

      Completely agree, although on CSI Miami it seemed like he was phoning it in or didn't give a F' anymore.

    Life can be so very cruel. I have a disease that is slowly crippling me and there's no cure unfortunately. David Milch has been a legend in the world of television and he always will be no matter what hand he has been dealt. Thank you for all the entertainment you and your writing have given me over the years sir.

    Love or hate Caruso overall, Det John Kelly in the first season of NYPD Blue raised the bar for network performance. Bochco and Milch had a hand in that as well, but still.

      The more I watch season 1, the more I can't stop looking at Sipowicz. Kelly dominated the first 8 or so episodes but Franz really started bringing it a third of the way through. DC has always been too mannered and self-aware for me. I call his style of acting "My sh*t don't stink" acting. Just not my cup of tea.

      Nobody with knowledge of the art will say he isn't a top-tier actor. His problem was him.

    Very enjoyable comments on Caruso. He was one of television's greats! Maybe someday we will get that odd independent Indy with Dave and Nic- both class acts!

    Caruso wanted to be a movie star, but He was a great TV star. He was great in movies as a supporting role. Check out King of New York with Walken.

    Caruso has not been in anything since after CSI Miami. Although he probably could just live off the syndication money

    Caruso was fabulous in NYPD and the first few seasons of miami vice. They ruined his character and his ability to act. He is phenomenal and didn't get to show his acting chops.

    They replaced Caruso with Jimmy Smit and to me NYPD lost its charm. I am a big fan of CSI Miami .

    • @DWtechfan
      @DWtechfan Před 22 dny +1

      I thought Jimmy Smits as Detective Simone was much better than Caruso as Detective Kelly. Caruso was good but Smits was great. Jimmy had more range and heart than David, to me any way.

      @@DWtechfan Everyone likes who they like. I watched NYPD 2 seasons and then lost interest. TV shows don't hold my interest like a good movie. God bless . John 3:16

    • @DWtechfan
      @DWtechfan Před 22 dny

      @@kimwestwood8840 absolutely agree. Everyone has their own acquired taste on everything in life. I just pointed out that I believe NYPD Blue actually gained much more charm with Smits than Caruso. Although I did enjoy Caruso in season 1, his character lacked the depth to me anyway. Smits just had a fuller personality and apparently, the show runners hated Caruso and Caruso was such a pain in the rear and that he caused David Milch to have a heart attack arguing with him over the script. Caruso just wasn’t professional and as good as Detective Kelly was, it wasn’t worth the drama dealing with the typical prima donna Hollywood actor. Maybe its because his character had more time to develop on the show too but Detective Simone was also shown to be a more moral and upstanding guy on the show in addition to him being more charismatic and endearing. I’d honestly suggest you rewatching the stuff you missed after Caruso left because the whole cast was excellent. I never watch a show based on simply one character and Dennis Franz as Andy Sipowicz is probably the main character. To each their own though, God Bless you and thanks for sharing your thoughts here.

      @kimwestwood8840 Před 22 dny +1

      @@DWtechfan Thats interesting about Caruso, didn't know that. I did hear he wanted to do movies instead of TV but for whatever reason that didn't pan out for him. I like Dennis Franz on NYPD. I have seen many crime TV shows but CSI Miami is my favorite for whatever reason. Caruso had a lot of compassion on that show. Also the 1st one with William Peterson was good. Thanks for sharing

    • @DWtechfan
      @DWtechfan Před 22 dny

      @@kimwestwood8840 as an actor, Caruso was good. As a person, it seems he couldn’t handle fame and treated others badly. I only know about his behind the scenes stuff because I saw an interview with Steven Bochco talking about it. Dennis Franz is the one constant in the show and even the others are great too on NYPD Blue. I’ve never watched CSI Miami although it gets highly praised. I did see some of the original with Petersen and Helgenburger. It was pretty good but I only caught a few episodes occasionally. Nice interacting with you here, take care!
