    Does it not leave the paint with a texture because of the roller? Why not spray paint it instead?

    So I have a steel door that had some dents in brought it down to bare metal filled in the dents with bondo applied phosphoric acid on the bare metal to protect it from any future rust for the simple fact that the salt air hear in Wailuku Maui is not a friend of any metal. Cleaned it up as per the instructions proceeded to primer the door and now I have areas that are rough I'm going to try wet sanding in the morning. Unless you have a suggestion for the way I to proceed. Thanks in advance.

      Ah Maui, that would be a great place to go and escaped the cold dark winter here. Ok back to your comment lol
      In those case I usually fill and sand the dents with a paintable caulking, I think you went above and beyond to repair your door, which is probably the best way to do it. The wet sanding hopefully with work to sand out the rough areas.
      I dont usually take it down the bare metal. I bet it looks like a new door now. Sorry I dont have any other suggestions for you. Hope it works out.

    Is this what you would use on the interior garage door (steel)? What kind of premier and paint do you use?

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  Před 2 lety +1

      This door was previously painted, so I used bullseye 123 primer and 2 coats of white latex interior door and trim paint

    Hi. I dont have any primer?? I heard you can use 1 part vinegar and 5 parts water to help prepare the door. I am painting it the same as its existing color with exterior paint.

      Thats more for cleaning the door.... You need a good primer for the paint to adhere to. 😁

    1. Is sanding necessary for an unpainted steel door? 2. What do you suggest for fixing a small dent?

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  Před 2 lety

      The light sanding will always help with paint to adhere, Bullseye 123 primer says sanding isn't necessary however I usually will still do a light sanding, it never hurts .
      Fixing small dents on a steel door is not easy, I have tried many different products. For me if there are only a few small dents I personally will use a little paintable caulking. I just use a drywall knife to apply it then I wait till it dries apply alittle more making sure it is as smooth as possible then I wait till it is nice and hard then I do a light sanding around the edges to take care of any imperfections, prime over it and then paint.
      Hope this helps, but also check with them at the store where you live and see if they have anything that they suggest. I do this stuff a time so I can make it look good but if you aren't use to working with materials like this it could be a bit tricky

    Hi, how about painting a brown steel door to white. How do I achieve that? Thanks for your shared knowledge

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  Před 4 lety +5

      Hi there, thanks for watching and for your question, pretty much follow my steps the same, however going over a dark color like brown may require an extra coat of white maybe even 2 extra thin coats just to ensure that you get the brown totally covered, you will know though after the paint dries whether or not you need more coats. Hope this helps

    My door has chips in the paint that's it has on it now. What do you recommend?

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  Před 3 lety

      Hi, depending on how many or how bad the chips are, will depend how much sanding is required, if they aren't too bad then you can probably hand sand them, I would suggest using 120 grit sandpaper, sand out the chips and make sure you prime especially if you get right down to the metal. On doors that are really bad I will use my orbital power sander with 120 grit disks. Hope this helps

      Hi there , yeah you can paint a steel door any colour, as long as you follow the steps in this video you should be ok, if it is an exterior door It has to be the right temperature outside and also it has to have UV Ray's on it at some point throughout the day

      Hey! Depending on where you live, if you are in the states then you can probably find this primer and paint at a home depot or other paint stores. I used bullseye 123 primer and sico door and trim paint for the top coat. Hope this helps , thanks for watching and for your question

    I’m trying to paint my door black and my door is white. What name brand of paint do you recommend? Also I didn’t sand it and the paint started to pull off, so if I sand it will it not peel off anymore?

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  Před rokem

      Hi there
      Just curious did you prime the door before painting? Sanding definitely will help with adhesion but a light sanding and a coat of a good primer like Bullseye 123 and then the top coat should give you the best results. As far as what paint to use I would recommend either Benjamin Moore or sico both are excellent, Benjamin is number 1 but the price is higher and sico is a close number 2 with a more affordable price point. Hope this helps let me know if I missed something
      Thanks for watching and for the question

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks! No, you cant use the primer and paint in one, I wish they wouldnt even advertise that anymore, it is not true primer. Over oil you need to use a good primer. Same with painting new drywall I know people that have used the primer plus paint in one on new drywall and it did not go well. Hope this helps

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter

      I use bullseye 123 primer and it is ready to paint pretty quick after, I usually give it a couple hours at least , but whatever primer you buy, look at the side or the can and it will tell you how long for that primer , hope this helps

    How do I paint a metal door that the previous owner of our home painted with flat wall paint??? Any advice?

    • @TheCanadianHomePainter
      @TheCanadianHomePainter  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for watching and for the question. And really you should be able to just go over it eith regular door and trim paint. Assuming the flat wall paint is latex on the door now, just lightly sand the surface wipe it down with a warm rag and apply 2 costs of latex door and trim paint over top. Hope this helps

    I've encountered experienced painters who do not prime medal doors and they think it's odd when they have two give it four coats of paint. I do not understand why they would do that. maybe to avoid having to buy primer and just hop the paint will cover. but after years of painting you would think they would know what to do.

    • @da324
      @da324 Před rokem

      Experienced painters know you do not have to prime something every time you paint it. Bare metal yes, a colored door that's been primed and painted, not necessary. In general primer is for bare surfaces.

    • @gianthills
      @gianthills Před rokem

      @@da324 yes agreed. And then there's the paint primer all in one. I think painters use that stuff to get it done faster, but I'm told it's inferior.

    • @da324
      @da324 Před rokem +1

      @@gianthills I hear you. I personally think the paint and primer all in one is a marketing ploy, because it doesn't make logical sense.
