The Battle of the Pelennor Fields is the largest and most important of the War of the Ring
Sauron's armies besiege the city of Minas Tirith, led by the Witch-king of Angmar (chief of the Nazgûl or Ringwraiths) and Gothmog (second-in-command to the Witch-king - the lieutenant of Minas Morgul).The White Wizard Gandalf takes command of the city's defences.After repeated futile attacks by catapults and siege towers, Sauron's forces are able to breach the city gate using the giant battering ram Grond. The Witch-king enteres alone at dawn and is confronted by Gandalf.Gondorians are about to be overrun, but at that moment the Rohirrim army arrives and counter-attacks in a massive cavalry charge led by Théoden. The Orcs begin to retreat, but the Mûmak-riding Haradrim join the Orc army, turning the tide. The Witch-king kills Théoden, only to be killed himself by Éowyn with help from Merry. On the verge of defeat, the Rohirrim are saved when Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli arrive with the Army of the Dead.
