The Thrush mufflers take me back to the the deep throaty 70’s sounds. Nice.
But they're neither deep nor throaty.... 🤔
Their clean tho. Never been a fan of chambered mufflers. Either turbo or glass packs for me @@lollipop84858
At idle, the thrushes sound like a drum line of snare drummers!
You don't know that !
Thanks for the video, I couldn't find any other good comparisons on YT and I've been torn between the two for awhile now, This vid helped a LOT!
Glad it helped!
Thrush sounds good
Flowmasater 4:54 & Thrush 7:11
Both sounds great!
You're doing gods work
@@thomaspitt7181 😅 thanks!
Wrong.
Thank you my man
@@DarrenGroves 👍
I always did enjoy the " sweet sound of my Thrush Turbo single exhaust " on my 1972 Monte Carlo , I miss it and the car to .
Have thrush mufflers on my c10, sounded great, 7 years now and theyre a little rotten now. No ice or snow where i live. Going to get the same ones put back on anyways.
THRUSH muffs Sound much better! Adjust your idle set screws in until idle drops (It's about a minute delay) reaction then adjust them out a tad till it idles up. I use a tack & dwell meter. Not sure what size carb you have on there or what kind but you may need to rejet it with smaller jets to get your mixture right. I like edelbrock carbs for the street & reliability.
The IROC hood would look better❗
It is tbi not carb.
Love the video bro!!!!!!!!
Thrush most definitely, I put a dual out on our 90 Eldorado and it sounds amazing, liked better then flowmaster
Put a thrush on my 85 Tbird. Love it way better than flowmaster. Tried flowmaster and magnaflow on my dodge 2500 and the thrush sounds better than both. Running thrush's on all my trucks. And V8 cars.
Very helpful considering a muffler change for more power don't want anything too loud
How much more power does a muffler change make exactly? And how do mufflers make power? Are they making it or freeing it up?
I've used those Thrush turbo mufflers on a small chev 350cu .
Lol I put those mufflers on backwards,on purpose. OMG THE RUMBLE!!
THE SOUND AS SO LOUD IT PISSED OFF THE POLICE IN Victoria B.C Canara
Nice Video! was considering getting the Thrush from summit so you helped out alot, one suggestion though- put turndowns on the tailpipe/end of mufflers, the exhaust is ruining your bumper paint! GJ again, and nice car !
Thank you! Glad I could help out!
Also those turbo mufflers have glass packing kinda like glasspacks that take a few hundred miles to break in they will sound different after a few hundred miles where as a chambered muffler like the flowmaster does not have any packing and won't change in sound
Makes sense that they would break in. I guess that's the reason people say Flowmaster sounds tinny is because if the open chambers!
Flowmaster mufflers sound like tin cans.
Show off your Comet, it looks good.
I vote for the Thrush mufflers. I always hear people say “old school” when talking about The Flowmaster sound. They are more of a 90’s sound to me. I think a turbo muffler sounds real “old school.”
I have a set of Thrush welded"s on my 07' Monte Carlo SS but wouldn't mind shaking it up. Sounds decent.
I have a set of thrush dual chamber mufflers, more or less just like flow master, on my mustang fox body with off road H pipe and sounds exactly like my friends fox body with same specs, same sound for a lot cheaper, just here to see how the thrush turbo sounds coz I was wanting to put one in my zx2, I want some sound with out sounding like a fart cannon
Thrush perforated mufflers have a more settled tone...suits the 3rd gen. Nice choice.
Currently doing an 85 plain jane, looks like a little ole lady car has a2.8 v6 and I'm going sbc. First I'm wondering what shorty headers to get (budget)? I also have to use cats. I'm just going with 2- 1/4 pipe. Any suggestions? I like the thrush sound, had flowmasters on a pick up. Didn't like the drone either. Thanks for putting up the sound comparison.
Those thrushes sound like a dragster.
The thrush turbo sounds perfect on my 98 s10😉
350 sbc?
@@ashtonarquette9228 No it's a 4.3 but it sounds very clean.. very modern
Have a sound clip I also have a 4.3
and i notice it left black stuuf on your bumper maybe you should move the rear pipe back some . but it sound tuff throw .
Ooh yeah brother that's sounds 👍 awesome
would the thrush sound good on a gmc canyon? it’s got the 3.5 i5
Hey how do you find out the offset that you need for the thrust mufflers
The thrust sounds like a top fuel dragster
If your going for the sleeper look try the original hood, but if you might put the turbos back on the cowl hood. Also how's that sniper efi working for you, I want to try it out but not sure yet
Yeah I agree. And it's really nice I liked my old Holley carb but the efi setup really woke the car up. If your car has a return fuel line and you can swap to a high pressure fuel pump easily then its a quick swap really.
Will it sound good on a V6 single exhaust.
Do a video on the Mercury Comet!
Oh man, those Thrush mufflers sound so much better than the Flowmaster 40s. Did you get any droning inside with them?
Because you have your muffler at the end of the exhaust that needs a tailpipe, put the mufflers further up in the exhaust system or get the proper two into one and exhaust for that
Just paint the hood leave the thrush on they sound awesome nice job
Should have went with thrush welded but those sound nice and rumbly
I think you should go for the borla atack exhaust they sound crazy badass
Nice Comet 👌
Flowmaster all day , every day and twice on Sundays!
Flowmaster sucks they sound cheap and they rust out in weeks. Their entire exhaust systems rust out anywhere they weld at. They advertise how good they are against corrosion, lol. The pipes are good except at every weld. The welding takes away the corrosion resistance. For the money, thrush is 100 times better and sound better.
@@RRr-qn3ue Thrush are made in China.. Flowmaster in USA..so there's that to consider.
Yes!
The Flowmasters sound too "tinny" for me. I've been searchin and searchin for a video of an actual muscle car with some "quiet" mufflers so thanks man. I got a straight piped 383 stroker and I love the sound. Been crusing around like that for about 10 years but recently I moved into an apartment building and all the neighbors are little bitches.
True dual exhaust WITH an X pipe? Genius!
Flowmaster has that signature sound. Hard to beat it. Maybe Magna flow for a different sound but not a big fan of turbo mufflers or glass packs.
Whats up with the Comet to the right in the video?
Thrush 👍
I ran flow master for 20 years and thrush turbos for the last 8 or so.
You need to put on a nice pair of chrome exhaust tips to keep your bumper clean.
WOW GUY IS THAT A CYCLONE NEXT TO THE CAMARO I KNOW THAT BACK LIGHT FROM WHEN I WAS A KID I BELEIVE A MONTAGO ALSO HAD SAME BODY IN 1970
Are you running like way rich or burning oil?
I do like those flowmasters.. iroc hood. :)
It's. Holleys sniper self adjusting system, no computer (just by it self) adjusts to atmospheric conditions great if you don't care for adjusting carberators. BUT Turbos for the win!!! much snappier sounding and you hear your Engines valves chambers popping and snapping way better and, using an a agressive camshaft (IE) one with more lift and tighter lobe seperation, will really sound more race car. Been using them back in the 80s love the Engine sound better than lame cherry bombs or flow munsters......
What deep tone throaty muffler do you recommend for a 1987 4Runner 22RE EFI. Dyno max? Cherry bomb? Thrush? Or flow master? I also bought a camshaft for it, it has a choppy aggressive sound to it. Thanks for reading
ur a good guy
I've got a set of 40 series on my 85 Corvette they sound great but drone me to death on the inside of the car can't hear my radio half the time and it gives me a headache I don't mind a loud good sounding car if all the noise would fracking stay on the outside of it so I'll replacing them soon just haven't decided on muffler's to get.
Wish you had test on your comet. I,m looking for something to put in my comet with 302.
That would have been interesting for sure. If you end up testing one on yours let me know how it sounds 👍
@@ZanesGarage what motor in yours?
@@ikesims5328 it's the 302 as well.
Hey I have a Chrysler 200 L I was looking to upgrade my exhaust system which is better to get the flow or the dual?
I'd take it out to an exhaust shop and ask their opinion. Chances are, they've worked on other 200s and they can talk with you to figure out exactly what you want
Taylor Raiford I just got a cat back exhaust ima post the video on my page in a sec
Damn I would've just replaced the mufflers with a thrush turbo or a dynomax super turbo and kept the stock resonator
Get some tail pipes/Tips bro. Sounds nice.
Rumbly sound with the Flowmasters, Thundery sound with the Thrush.
Damn bro hit the fkn gas
Man , I had an 85 silverado that was had everything done to the motor and you could literally hear it from a 500 feet away inside a brick building and unfortunately years ago I sold it and what makes me sick is today the motor work alone would cost more than I sold it for. Picture every mint jacked up silverado you see online with 12 inches of lift on it all together and see what the price tag is and unfortunately almost 20 years ago I sold it for 7500. Now I'm looking for another one and kicking myself in the ass for not just throwing it in the garage and letting it sit.
Did you listen to some jack ass family member, tell you you should sell it?
I’ve learned to never listen to anyone’s opinion except my own!!
When you have something you love you should never get rid of it!!
@@zachsheffee8458 talking 20 years ago. At the time I wanted a car thst was better on gas than getting 6 - 8 mpg. Wasn't really thinking about a fade coming 20 years later where people would be willing to spend 30 to 100k on them. But no my parents didn't care what I did with it. And idk where I would have stored it for 20 years but I do wish I kept it. I mean if I was really thinking I would have bought bitcoin when I was told to at a time it was going for a few dollars a piece. That's a little more of a make you sick moment than the truck. Had a friend that told me to buy it and seeing I didn't know anything about it I said idk about that sounds like I'm throwing money away. Did the math and a few thousand would now be tens of millions , that hurts more lol
Hello what it's your cam in this video?? Thanks 👍

The Thrush mufflers are much better. And as far as the hood? Lose the one that's on the car now and replace with the other one.
Thanks for sharing! Oh and BTW, I'm really digging your Maverick!! Had one similar bad in the day, (in 1981) except mine was green. 😉👍👍👍
I was thrown back when I saw what is a Camaro guy with what looks like a mint Maverick in his garage. Always been on my bucket list to restore a Maverick Grabber.
Actually, that looks like the Mercury version, the Comet. Pretty much same thing though.
thrush sounded better at idle, but the flowmasters sound 100x better in the rpms
Not the question is...cherrybombs or flowmasters
how is the 1800 rpm drone sound?
It was rough. I'm currently using the thrush because of that.
Sounds much better.. but try the walker super turbo better version of the thrush and better flowing just as quit just much deeper old school sound I have run both for many years
I'll have to try them out!
I just put a cherrybomb vortex dual in dual out 2 1/2 On my 97 4x4 suburban with turn downs and it sounds badass and runs even better..pulled the 40 series flows off sounds better runs even better everyone live it
I got some thrush mufflers on my firebird
Original 40 or super 40?
Can the thrush be put on backwards and cause problems?
No you can use them either way not directional
Vote for Thrush and factory hood
I have Thrusher Turboes on my 2007 Crown Vic Interceptor
I bet those sound great on there
Yes man..I love it💯sounds great
All you needed was some turn downs on the Flowmasters
I've been trying to figure out how to get another foot of pipe or turndowns on the end of them. I would have to move stuff around to get some welded on there. Maybe in the future!
@@ZanesGarage just slide the turndowns on into position, put a small tack weld or 2 then drop the exhaust down far enough to weld the rest of it. But if you want to get rid of the drone, then get you a dual in dual out Flowmaster or Thrush welded and put it closer to the engine. Need to get it about where you sit under the car. The muffler will change the sound earlier and then travel on out the back. Having the mufflers in the back will create that deep drone sound.
As a musicians point of view, The acoustics on the 2nd instrument, sound profoundly better and is within my pitch preference.
Thrush for sure!
Would sound better mounted under the car instead of back by the bumper
Put the flow masters back on ,and leave the 4inch hood on with black SS stripes. That way a muscle car guy will see you coming from a distance and that you mean business .
Flowmasters sound like someone banging on tin cans.
@@RRr-qn3ue That's how the Thrush sounds.
@@jameslandon4126 , I had flowmaster on my truck. Sounded terrible and rusted out in 1 year. Replaced with thrush, sounds great with a nice low growl cruising, and let's the power sound good under acceleration. Forgot to mention, I had on truck for the last four years , still no rust. Thrush cost about 1/4 the price of flowmaster crap.
IROC hood for sure.
Thrush 100%
Iroc hood and thrush
Most definitely Thrush mufflers, sounds much better than the FLowmaster.
Just actually put the thrush mufflers back on. Giving it another try and so far it's a lot more "drivable"
@@ZanesGarage they sound great! I have flow masters in my Mustang but I'll be changing them to flow fx or turbo mufflers as soon as I can.
Link to valve covers?
I bought these off of eBay if you search for chevy vortec finned valve covers you'll see a lot of options. I believe these are the short version but they also make tall ones.
@@ZanesGarage appreciate it, nice car
What about that Maverick!?!?!
thursh for sure sounds better. i have duel thrush mufflers on my 95 roadmaster sadan *5.7L lt1* and it sounds awsome.
I'm more interested in the 70s comet to the right
I have thrush on my 2008 gt
Thrush baby .. flowmasters always drone.
sounds like jiffy pop corn!
Irock hood
Not bad for a $25 muffler
He said he had a mild cam lol
I like the thrush better
A little rich there buddy?
Honestly the thrush doesn’t sound bad. The flowmaster just has a more throaty sound.
Try thrush welded mufflers those are good
The most sane Ohio car enthusiast
Is that merc comet a 2 door? Yeah i see it is now, V8?
Yeah it's a 2 door with the stock 302 in it. Fun little car to Cruise in
Thanks, reminded me of my V8 73 maverick. Keep it up.
That Comet caught my eye too, my uncle had a red one back in the early seventies and I loved that car. They used to race a lot back then, his was a GT so I don't remember what engine came with it. Haven't seen one of those in years.
No way turbo muffler gotta go man
Looks like it needs valve seals
Thrush !!!!!!
in my opinion the flowmasters sound all-natural & the thrush sounds homemade ?🤭
IROC HOOD and Thrush.
Flow master all the way.
Bummer is they are made in China now
Flow-master sounds way better man!👍🏻
You put money in the motor but can't do anything about the exhaust soot on paint?
That soot looks tacky, use some turn downs.
Those mark tell you something is wrong, gasoline isn't burning at all.
Yeah the car was running very rich for awhile. I believe all is well now though.
