- In today's review, we will closely examine the Dynax 600si Classic, better known in North America as the Maxxum 600si Classic. An interesting entry in Minolta's AF SLR lineup is that the camera shifted the design ethos to a more hybrid control interface than strictly buttons, menus, and screens. While it did not sell well upon initial release, the interface has stuck even up until modern digital SLR and Mirrorless options.

During the Impressions Section, yes, the focus was way off, but I didn't realise it until after the video was finished, and I had no time to go back and fix it.

Nice!
I like how you tell the a story in the beginning, explain the camera, shoot some frames and conclude the experience and what to look out for on the camera!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I’m a history nerd, so putting the camera into context is important to me. Thanks for watching 🍻
Great review! Thanks. I have a Maxxum a7 with the VC-7 grip. Outstanding rig. Maybe my favorite camera. Also have a good 'ol 400si which I find really fun to shoot with. Cheers!
The 7 is amazing! Thanks for watching 🍻
great review, great images, great camera!
Thanks for watching 🍻
Minolta Auto Focus cameras are cool. I bought a 500si for my Grandson and he loves it
A great starting camera! Thanks for watching 🍻
My Minolta Maxxum 450si takes that same 2CR5 battery - a little inconvenient, but not a deal breaker.
Totally especially if you keep a bunch on hand. Thanks for watching 🍻
Love the Duct tape. If I ever get one of these, I'll try and design a 3D printed grip. The grip panel I had printed for the Maxxum 7000 looks fantastic on it.
I totally forgot about the 3D printing option. Might have to talk to my Pastor about designing one! Thanks for the idea and for watching 🍻
Thanks for the review of 600si. There are not many videos on YT covering this camera. Hopefully to see more reviews of Minolta cameras in the future. I have my eyes on 800si but, right now I'm having plenty of fun with X570. Just struggling a bit with the manual focusing :D
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, there aren't that many videos covering Minolta AF cameras; enjoy the X570, and the 800si is a great piece of kit. Thanks for watching 🍻
I have a Minolta 7000 where the plastic is peeling off. I will try thin leather glued with gummi arabicum (rubber).
Oh! Great idea 🍻
The 600si is great from a control perspective that's certain. Generally I prefer the Maxxum 5 or 70 for their compactness but the 600si really has better handling.
Do you think the 50mm f1.4 is worth three times as much as the 50mm f1.7? I've been tempted to replace my 50mm f1.7 with an f1.4 at times but I just don't see the extra half stop being worth the extra money and I don't use the 1.7 wide open very often anyway.
Another general zoom to consider might be the 24-85 from the mid 1990's, cheaper than the 24-105 on the used market.
The 70 is a great choice and camera! But I agree, I do find myself reaching for the 600si more. As for the lens, I certainly did not pay three times the price which is why I got it and honestly the difference is minimal, only a bit better sharpness wide open. Thanks for watching 🍻
The grip on my 600si has totally disintegrated, another problem is the Battery door.
Oof, yeah there are cracks in mine. Also thanks for note on the battery door and for watching 🍻
Great photos and review. I just bought one of these cameras myself and was looking for more information.
Thanks! And yes they’re super fun cameras! Took mine out last week with the 24/2.8! Thanks for watching 🍻
