I never learned any of this in class like she started making us do these types of essays and she never told us any of this and my teacher from my sophomore year never taught us ethos pathos and logos so I’m so behind on all this
My teachers were nice ladies (in the 70s!!!), but they taught me almost nothing. I do remember ONE thing: give specific examples. It seemed so dumb, because so OBVIOUS, but my grades improved. And I became a writer. Don't dis technique. The tools work. This feller is a good teacher, and even though I am an OLD lady working on my dissertation, I'm going to watch all of his videos that pop up. Shout out to Mrs. Roark.
Rhetorical strategies, or devices as they are generally called, are words or word phrases that are used to convey meaning, provoke a response from a listener or reader and to persuade during communication. Rhetorical strategies can be used in writing, in conversation or if you are planning a speech.
everyone is manipulating everyone else, purposefully or not. If you understand well how to persuade and manipulate please really think hard about your ideas and intentions. Your affect on others is more important than your pride. If your intentions include goodness for others not your own gain over others loss, and you constantly revise your ideas CHANGE YOUR MIND if you realize you were wrong, you're ok I think. Young people can be influenced by you. "With great power comes great responsibility ".
nothing more annoying than inconsistencies amongst teachers educating students in the same curriculum. my teacher would've shredded these example essays to bits and pieces.
I took dual enrollment English this year through UT Austin OnRamps and I can confidently say these would do very poorly as college essays. I'm taking the test even though I took OnRamps so that I can hopefully get a passing grade to add to my Capstone diploma but now that I'm seeing what's considered "good" I'll be fine and probably score a 5 if I can do well on the multiple choice

I was having trouble understanding how this all works, I think I'm better now. It helped to think about what a rhetorical essay is not for sure.
