- In this 'making of' tutorial, we will break down the steps used to render the image above using the toon shader. We will cover how to use base_tonemap, specular_tonemap, and stylized_highlight attributes of the toon shader. We will also cover how to add variation in the edge_width to create a more illustrative style.
The model has been kindly provided by Jaeyeon Nam. The original concept is by Hong SoonSang.

Lowkey rushing a major assignment (the classic artist's way) and this is a LIFE. SAVER. Thank you, I'm utterly hopeless with the node editor so this helped a lot!!! ♥
🤝
Great...thankyou. Can you do more videos on the toon shader, especially artistic effects on the Toon outlines
Useful for my next Autodesk University talk. Thanks Lee.
great as always!
You didn't show how you did the stripes...I can't figure out how to toon with textures...plz....
thank you, hope that more tutorial videos about the toon shading on Maya; and the process of render setup too
Por que el video no esta a 1080 ¿9
Your videos are so helpful
The file is nowhere to be found for downloading. It says "provided"; unless the model was only provided for the tutorial and not for us to download, something's wrong.
thanks for the tutorial, was struggling trying to figure out what everything did but this irons a chunk of it out.
lovely tutorial, great job!
It really is a shame toon is not fleshed out more for arnold. the render times are pretty hight for just flat colors and outlines to shapes. Thank you for the great video nonetheless!
Looks awesome !!!!!
Please give some more love to Arnolds Toon Shader! It feels so lacking compared to what other programs offer in their toon shaders!
This feature really needs some updates. After using psoft pencil for maya, you guys should integrate a lot of those line controls into AiToon.
Also
SHADOW COLOR NODE OUTPUT desperately needed to simplify the workflow
Thanks for mentioning Psoft pencil, I'll try that tool out. AiToon is ok but it definitely needs some love
vary thanks
i love this channel
does not work on me. sad.
I can't get the stylized highlight without an outline (what you STARTED doing with the boots but never finished). How do I finish this look?
Why is the whitest white in maya so grey?
Anyone know if its possible to export toon material (outlined character) as a sprite sheet with transparent background?
//nvm worked it myself.
Thanks for the Ads Autodesk.
nice
Is it possible to create a effect, Toon Line interaction with light, for eg. if character lit by area light from screen left so it catches the light on toon lines as near to light to make it more highlight and as the intensity decays so it has low intensity(toon lines) on the other side.
Mine does not have that black and white square next to color, any suggestions?
When i added AIimage to my base color and used the tif file for the image texture it didnt show
The amount of times my computer crashed trying to render this lol. No clue why, it's a good computer. Also they got rid of the Iris group, you have to manually face select on the eyes
is there is for blender
Anyone know how to get smooth shadows? I keep getting jagged lines
Can’t download the scene. Does anyone know why?
CAN YOU MAKE A GHIBLI SHADING USING YOUR ARNOLD IM JELOUSE ON BLENDER HUHU
i cant find aiRamprgb in Anronld. Help me plez
Go to hypershader -> arnold -> Utility.
@@naiman7032 It is not there. At least not in Maya 2018. It is in Maya 2022 though
@@LeonardLeon yep it is available from maya 2020. I used maya 2019 lol. I already install 2020 to fix.
this is the most useful video on this, but good lord is it hard to listen to. asmr gives me the most visceral cringe and every time he opens his mouth you can basically hear the saliva sloshing around. i have to pause the tutorial every 10 seconds to take a break.
hhhhhh
