    It's the cheapest torque sensing mid drive out there...as opposed to the cadence sensing on the bafang mid drives.
    The bafang is more powerful and better on the throttle,but the tongsheng is more natural to ride and gives better battery range....based on my experience.
    My bafang 750w motor lasted over 9500 miles,only ridden a couple hundred miles on the tongsheng 500w 48v setup so far.
    It's such a cheap motor that if I get half that milage I'd be happy.... it's also quite good for changing the firmware and getting the motor to perform to your own style of riding.

    I ride a bafang 750 mid drive everyday to work, which is virtually silent.absolutely love it, plenty of power, just have to be careful with throttle assist, when starting, so down change the power, no problem. Thanks.

      I have throttle fitted, is a bit slower, but soon picks up.
      750 is more than enough power, run it on a 44 tooth front ring.
      I have 9 levels of power, and have never gone past 7, which will do 35 mph plus.the great thing with mid drive,is they are more evenly balanced(weight wise), plus easier to change wheels, if you get a puncture. Cheers Steve, love your clips.

    I have a converted Bafang BBS02 750w. I also have an AWD hub drive. The mid drive is great on shorter rides, but i prefer the hub drive for long distance.
    I have a plan for 2024, a long distance Lincoln to Brighton ride on my AWD hub drive. Will need an additional battery to get me to my mid point for charging.

    Fair review, I have been using a similar Tongsheng setup for 600 miles now. It would be worth adding to be careful of the bike you put the kit on as the cable runs can clash with the motor if they run under the bottom bracket. Never missed the throttle as the torque sensing more than makes up for it even on my 250w 36v kit.

    • @russellzauner
      @russellzauner Před 8 měsíci

      Have to agree - I have a Fat Tad CXS (I'm disabled) and the Tongshen was my choice for a few reasons. 100% worked great out of the box and also never bothered to install a throttle (even though I could) because my requirements of 80-100% dynamic right side pedal assist are met brilliantly with the stock FW and it's plenty of power as well as great range per Wh. Literally a single wire to the controller and one to the battery - simple, no cadence sensor hassle, no speed sensor limitations, just hop on and get gone.
      I'm upgrading to Enviolo IGH and Gates Carbon because I keep destroying everything in the drivetrain; like I said, the Tongshen has plenty of torque to chew through all the standard stock bike components - I'd have to upgrade to basically a motorcycle chain to keep the links from stretching, so why not just go straight to belt?
      Can't recommend Tongshen highly enough - you can't beat the price/performance. If you poke around you can find the motors for less than the cost of what I used to buy a single car tire for lol
      There are TQ-HPR50 bare motors online now so I'm saving up for that to be the next upgrade; Enviolo also has an "extreme gearbox" they launched this year so I can get rid of the rear hub weight of the IGH. If I had the cash I'd go Pinion all the way but normal people can't afford stuff like that or Rohloff IGH.

  • @J0nny61
    @J0nny61 Před 8 měsíci +1

    I'm just about to sell my motor on ebay, £200. I've only done about 40 miles and it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. I am used to my Orbea Wild with the Bosch CX Gen 4 motor. I have the 500W 48V Tongsheng, the new B version. I'd say it has half the power of the Bosch, but it's dirt cheap. If you'd never rode a proper full fat EMTB, you would think it was brilliant. The torque sensing kind of works, but it's sort of on or off, as far as power delivery is concerned. You really need to use the gears as the motor doesn't deliver power at high cadence. It sort of cuts out at 75RPM peddle cadence, so you must up change to a higher gear to keep it within it's power range. If John had let Steve try his Bosch, Steve would have been astounded at the difference, I know I was. These motors are tunable, but you really need to fit the heatsink kit, and probably the thermal control kit, as the standard thermal management is non existent. I am a big bloke, 6'1", 97kg but my Orbea doesn't really notice it. I'm sort of comparing a £1.2k bike with a £5.5k bike, which isn't really fair, I'm just setting expectations with my comments.

      For cruising about the streets on a bike frame I prefer 2000w 52v hub setups. If I wanted to get some exercise in or bike parks a mid drive around 500 to 1000w with torque sensing pas is good. Anything more than that you might as well get a kuberg, stark varg etc and do full motocross on a dirt bike style frame.

    After smashing my shoulder in a work accident I'm likely never going to be able to go back to the more extreme off roading, but I'd still like to be able to do it the the full extent I can . The price ain't too bad either. This could be just what I'm looking for, only issue for me is my bike is a Gary Fisher Sugar 293, with a rear shock mounted in the space between the top tube and the down tube space is super limited, I need to find a battery case that will fit on the bottom of the down tube and not rub on the front tyre when the front suspension bottoms out. I've seen it done on very similar frames, like this one (although I have less clearance than this guys frame) czcams.com/video/8TfO4xSEyQQ/video.htmlfeature=shared&t=40 ...I've thought about a backpack battery but I don't think my shoulder could take it for extended rides. Edit: This is pretty much identical to my bike czcams.com/video/WdZ2UtKDw-4/video.htmlfeature=shared&t=1105 Such an awkward frame for mounting a batt but I love the bike.

    this tongsheng is weaker than a bosch performance CX, and it can't handle 500W continuous. it's ok and cheap to build a cheap torque sensing mid drive, but it will not keep up with the most powerful retail mid drives (36V 20A for the most part) and certainly not with 500W rated bafang mid drives.
    I'm currently riding the 1000W (48V 30A) toseven DM01 have never snapped a chain or sprocket, the chain has 6500km on it and 0.35% stretch. Thanks to immersion waxing. Busted 3 54t star ratchets in the rear hub freewheel, though. 36t ratchets hold up much better.
    the best mid motor currently available imo is the all new torque sensing Bafang M435 (750W) or M635 (1000W). It requires some fine tuning with the BESST tool for optimaltorque sensor response, but what a beast!dead silent, super responsive and powerful! ipx6 rated
