Was a Russian-born painter and she was the mother of British actor, writer and filmmaker Sir Peter Ustinov.
The fireplace toolset and brass fireplace andirons have now also been added.

Yes, it is a hotel room that you will not often encounter. The carpet is unique.

Somehow I'm thinking this was only Kubrick's vision of room 237 and not King's. King probably imagined 237 as a plain simple little room much like you'd see in a charming country inn.

It was definitely Stanley Kubrick's idea to furnish Room 237 in this way. Many ideas come from existing hotels. The set design was done together with Roy Walker and Leslie Tomkins. The latter has also worked on EWS.

Room 237 wasn't even Room 237 in the book. It was originally 217.

It really seemed to be a luxurious suite. It had a mini foyer, double doors, a living room, a large bathroom and what looks to be a floor model TV. Which were very rare to see in hotels out in the middle of nowhere
Yes, it seems rare, such a luxurious room in the middle of nowhere.
But as Stuart Ullman said during his tour at the Colorado Lounge: "On it's hayday it was one of the stopping places of the jet set.
We had four presidents to stay here. Lots of movie stars."

I remember when I first saw, this, I had to be about 9 or 10, and it was funny. I got a kick out of the movie that I still watch today.

This is really cool! I’ve always found the colors and patterns disorienting and almost nauseating... idk it’s hard to describe but I’d bet money it’s what Kubrick was aiming for! And is it just me or does anyone else see the phallac symbol in the carpet pattern?
The colors and patterns are quite present. This was already the case in the Clockwork Orange sets. Stanley Kubrick's penchant for eye-catching patterns and colorways is obvious.
Hundreds of photos of hotel rooms were taken during the research for the different sets. The sets were designed together with Roy Walker and Leslie Tomkins.

When I try to explain the movie is playing with you subconsciously and you don’t realize but little things like colors influences how you’re feeling while watching I usually get an eye roll and “yeah, ok. Suuuuurrreee...” Lol

Ten years ago I was involved a lot with a theater group. Set design and construction, directing. I also used sublimating techniques with decor and light (color) to achieve a certain effect.
Because I did the light and sound during the performances, I could feel the reaction of the audience if it had an effect.
Was a fun time and learned a lot.

My plan was to put the route that Wendy takes at the end (Grey Service hall, The Exit, Apartment etc.) in a video, but then on the grounds of the Elstree Studios. So from stage to stage.

Well done, this is a nice recreation. However, there's a few details off/worth mentioning.
The entrance doors should be open and pointed towards the stairs, where the tiger picture is there should be a mirror. The desk light to the right of the stairs should be off. The pattern on the bed blanket should be tilted 90 degrees. To the right of the bed on the night stand there should be a white phone, also the lamp on that table should be tilted (also notice the arc-like reflection), the right-most bird picture above the bed has a peculiar horizontal "shine" (seen elsewhere) as the camera pans above the lamp. The ceiling-light in the bathroom should be pink (it changes colours btw. shots). Lastly there's two red nobs under the sink in the bathroom.
This may seem excessive but noticing little details, and their reoccurrences, make the movie far more mysterious than it may appear.
Also notice how the old woman's right-eye is partially injured when following Jack. When she's in the bathtub sitting up, both eyes open. In addition to the blemishes on her body are also different.

thanks for your tips. They are very valuable to me. This way I can improve the sets.
Some of your details have already been adjusted: the Room 237 video is from 5 months ago and I've made a few adjustments in the meantime, such as the phone seen in the 'panoramic video' of Room 237's bedroom.
I'd like to go over the details you've noted.
1. The entrance doors should be open and pointed towards the stairs.
That is indeed the case in the scene of the film. It has been my intention to build all sets as accurately as possible, but choices are inevitable, such as furniture that changes places or disappears during scenes. In the case of Room 237, I chose to see the situation before Jack comes in.
2. Where the tiger picture is there should be a mirror.
That's where I disagree. I think it's a painting. I watched the Blueray 4K version again frame by frame, but I still see a painting. However, with glass in front, creating a reflection that could give the impression of a mirror. I've been in touch with Joe Girard about this. He has a website about all the art that appears in The Shining.

3. The desk light to the right of the stairs should be off.
Absolute. I took the liberty of turning on the light.
4. The pattern on the bed blanket should be tilted 90 degrees.
That's right, the pattern of both the bed and the curtains still need to be improved, the texture also needs to be more velvet.
5. To the right of the bed on the night stand there should be a white phone, also the lamp on that table should be tilted.
A white phone has already been put down, as can be seen in the panoramic video, but the lamp still has to tilt to the other side. The scale of the lamp was also incorrect, which is also why the reflection in the last painting does not occur.
6. The ceiling-light in the bathroom should be pink (it changes colors btw. shots).
I don't understand what you mean by this. The light or the fixture? The light seems quite cool (about 3500 Kelvin) to me, but the difference in color may be due to shooting the bathroom scene that lasted almost a week. This means that a lot of film was shot and, unlike digital film, color differences may have arisen in the development lab between the different takes on different days.
7. There are two red nobs under the sink in the bathroom.
That's right, they haven't been made yet. In addition to the two red valves, there are also two chrome cup siphons.

@@deltabuilder Right on, yea you're right about the tiger picture, it's reflective but I can see the picture before it cuts. Interesting how the tiger fits in thematically: tony the tiger, Wendy's Tom & Jerry mug in the apartment, the "snowcat".
Joe Girard has for sure done some great work finding out what all the paintings are, really helps with analysis. Check out Rob Ager's work (Collative Learning on CZcams) if you haven't already.
The light I was referring to is the spherical ceiling light, to me it looks like a soft-pink in the shot when the woman is behind the curtain, in 2 other shots where she's following Jack it looks like it changes to a soft-green/blue. I could be wrong though it's very subtle.

I also noticed the difference in light color in The Bathroom. The same effect can be seen even more strongly in the Gray Service corridor. When Wendy walks there it is more pink and when Jack throws the coffee pots on the floor in the same place it is more greenish.
I think it has to do with the development of the film. I should check the restored version of the 4K version to see if it has been corrected there.

In Doctor Sleep, there is no entrance to 237. In The Shining, the characters go through the entrance with mirrored doors. But then it seems that in Doctor Sleep the doors change location.

Yes that's right. When I saw the film I immediately noticed that the entrance was different. It is not clear to me why Mike Flanagan had it built this way.
I know he was in London at the Kubrick Archive. There he was able to view the original construction drawings.

Good job, very accurate rendition. That room has to be the ugliest hotel room I've ever seen though, and I've seen a few. Obviously intentional, even taking into account ugly late 70s decor.

you are absolutely right. I think more time was spent researching, designing and building the living room, bedroom and bathroom than the shooting took.
It's the odd color scheme that is so creepy and off-putting - the purple and green, and then that yellowish blue/green sort of sick turquoise in the bathroom..
