    Thank you for the info! Nice to see this being done at this level so I know how to complete the job. I have the 0A4 (KPF) in my 08, and it’s still essentially the same exact design as shown in this video. Thanks again!

      Well hey, they're pretty decent quality tools for fairly low prices! Haha
      Great starter tools for anyone who doesn't have a lot of money to spend on tools and equipment like Snap-On or others.

    Really quick question. Ive got an 04 Jetta TDI manual and when I bought it, it needed a CV axle. The guy I bought I from, started to replace it, then sold it to me. Bad move on my part. So I've been trying and trying for a while to get that flange into the transmission on the passenger side. At one point I even had the center bolt grab and lock it in. Here's the thing, is that flange supposed to sit flush against the transmission? Bc I can not get it to, even if I clamp the thing and the spring is completely compressed. Is it fine as long as that center bolt is able to thread on? I can't find anything online and you seem to have the best video on this

      Hi there,
      That's bad luck! Always something with a project you buy.
      As far as I am concerned, as long as the inner machined surface of the flange is sitting within the lip of the oil seal, you should be fine. I don't recall specifically how far out the flanges on mine sat when installed, but as long as the sealing surface mentioned above is at least 1/4" into the oil seal, it should be fine and not leak on you.

      Hi there, thanks for the comment!
      To my knowledge it is just a traditional oil seal, however, I have never looked elsewhere to try and get one.
      But if you can get the numbers off of the face of the seal, any bearing/seal shop should be able to look it up and get one for you.

    Thanks for the video. I just replaced the same seal on my 02 Golf TDI. Still leaks. For some reason the flange has slop in it now. Not side to side but if I grab the axle I can wiggle the flange up and down. I don't understand what I did wrong or what may be broken. Seems to be only one way to install the flange and tighten the bolt so I dunno.

      Hmm, that does sound strange. It should be pretty straight forward to install the flange like you said. Only thing that comes to mind is the spring that is behind the flange. Maybe it got lost or broken? We had to struggle extensively to push the flange in against the spring tension far enough for the threads on the bolt to start into place.

      Yeah I've decided it has to come back apart to see what's going on. I like this car but at 285k miles, it's frustrating keeping it on the road. Japanese care so much easier to maintain!

      Michael Glenn - I just encountered the same problem with the passenger side flange moving up and down easily after I reinstalled (and then leaking profusely). How did you resolve your issue?

      @@plange1525 it ended up being the differential bearings. I got a good used transmission from quality German Auto parts in California.

      @@michaelglenn2468 yup if it still leaks, either the bearing are worn out or you didn't grease the seal and tore it up putting new one in. Most times the transmission bearings are worn out.

      Hello,
      No, I do not believe so. If it was one of the PTFE seals, you are not supposed to put anything on it and not allow your skin to touch the sealing surface. If it was a regular type oil seal I may have put just a light film of oil on the sealing lip to help with installation. The outside surface must be dry and clean to hold still once it is installed.

      Yes, looks like I put a light film of transmission oil on the sealing surface on the axle flange before installing.

      @@GBProductions0 Ah yes got ya...so just a tiny bit on the inside lip of the seal in effect. I'll do the same, and keep the outer lip dry / grease free. Very helpful video, thank you!

    I have the 02j on my 2000 tdi jetta and its leaving puddles. Is this from these input/output seals or there somewhere else it would be leaking from?

      Hi there,
      It would most likely be the output shaft seals, but could also be the drain/check plugs. You would be best to get underneath and clean the whole bottom of the transmission and then keep tabs on it to see where the oil starts to form again.
