      Those old machines need glow plugs for at least a minute when cold. New glow plugs act a lot faster.

    • @pamike4873
      @pamike4873 Před 3 lety +1

      Ether and glow plugs are fine. Just make sure you don't hit the ether before you start cranking it. Heat the plugs, crank, spray. And make sure to crank it for a few seconds after you're done spraying before you repeat the process. Our John Deere 9 series tractors have ether injection, which is worth its weight in gold. Just hit a button on the column. No getting out of the cab when it's 20 below with 20 mph winds.

    Never liked using startin fluid, I had a great way of starting diesels you need 3 more tools elbow size rubber gloves , gas and some rags . Soak the rags in gas put them around the air cleaner , make sure the filter is on so not to suck the rags into the engine the fumes from the gas will start the engine . That way you don't head the heavy pounding of the rods trying to compress the starting fluid saves bending a rod , fun videos enjoy watching 👍

    What you need to do is remove the seal housing first then gouge out both sides of the splined collar. make sure you realign the splines and tack weld it. Let it cool. Then you have to heat it all around reasonably hot, then arc weld with high nickel rod. keep the heat on until you finish welding it. then let it air cool and you should be right.

    • @CamppattonFamilyCompound

      @Spencer Sand B.S. Starting fluid burns at a higher rate and produces higher pressures in diesel engines and as such can, and has, broken pistons, heads, valves, blocks. I have seen it when I worked in the shop of a construction company. It's no fun pulling the engine out of a 235 excavator because someone used starting fluid.

If machine that drive gear out and press in a already splined cylinder or blank then weld it solid machine off the weld and if the seal seat got warped I’d weld that area up and machine it to . The starting fluid is not as bad as no water, steam is water and counts as the precombustion chambers on cat are to the side and cook fairly fast but can be taken out and replace with the head on as there is three rubber O rings there I'm thinking... I remember the eight sided socket that fits up like a torque socket on the inside stid of the outside like normal stuff and they get twisted in to eight hundred foot pounds of torque. I have seen twenty foot pieces of pipe on inch drive to get them out when you don't have a power multiplier.

    I have a few in one here 1st thing is didn't need no same ecm. 2 is yea the eighter. I dont like it myself, n not that heavy. I'd rather open the fuel up full n crank on it w light starting aid. N 3rd is the best. There was a guy out west my pops dealt with long ago for our Td 9 cat. We got ahold of 2 used track sets rollers for both sides, and 1 idler. Gaffney I think was his last name. I went out with a 86 1 ton ford 350 with 300 6 cyl 4 SPD stake body on it. Ohh man 4.11 finals what a ride. Well look folks have fun. I wish I could join your crowd I'd enjoy alot of things.

    Been really enjoying your videos. Tried to find the sprocket using what numbers i can see in the video. I can see what looks like 5452. When i look that up i find a sprocket PN 7k5481 which says it interchanges with PN 7k5452. Thinking that is your original PN. Not sure if that helps but did see some sites that sold it. Even one on Ebay. Would love to see this old girl up and moving again.
