The person asking how to enjoy tempe probably tried to eat a raw tempe and wondered why it doesn't taste good
yea, because fresh raw tempe is fermented goods. most fermented foodstuff has funky smell and taste until they are cooked in different form
he use it for tempe sushi xD
Ouch that description.
But theres also tempe tempura, is very good
Probably not the healthiest version, but tempeh mendoan is addicting. Stir fry with kecap manis is also a good way to do it.
Tempe Mendoan is like Steak for me.
if the person asking for 1st time about tempe, they might wanna know how its cooked. in indonesia tempe is commonly deep fried into crispy texture, some are chopped then panfried and simmered with heavy liquid seasoning + herbs/spices to make the raw beany taste reduced
tempe is best seasoning with only garlic and saltwater, then deep fried it, really that's the best.
Amen 🙏
Kering tempe is peakkkkkkkk just impeccable
Where's the answer of tempe question? ANYAAAAA 😆
For Outdonesian, we usually just marinade it with salt water and garlic then deep fried it. Or sometimes we stry fry it with sweet soy sauce and sambal.
For those that don't know (I know I didn't), tempe is a soybean product vaguely (only vaguely) similar to tofu.
Sure sounds like it'd go real hard when fried.
Stir-fried with some veggies and sambal is pretty good (might also be deep-fried beforehand, not 100% sure)
the way to eat? or the way to cook? there're lots you know, even the way to eat em, as snack, as side dish, use dipping sambals, or tempe as a kind of sambal itself. she's jp alright
Every time i watch an anya clip i slowly start to believe the meme that she lives in japan lmao
In case of anyone wondering if the answer was delivered,
Southeast Asian, especially Nusantara (Malay archipelago nations, I.e. Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, & Southern Philippines) cuisine, unfortunately it is like the black people foods of Asia: we like it fried, deep fried. Like we will ban you for promoting no-palm-oil foods here (those who get that reference will know).
I am aware of sambal goreng, where tofu and tempe are cubed and fried first, then you cook in another wok, a mix of coconut milk, long beans, cubed beef meat, and some spices, then add in the previous tofu and tempe in.
Fried whole tempe and eating it as a side dish is also another way.
Unfortunately we don’t have a healthier way of eating tempeh. Westerners seemed to have found a way to eat it healthier, by way of baking it like baking cashews and eating it like a cereal mix.
Thin slice Fried tempe are the best way to eat Tempe, you can even eat it with beer.
The real question whenever someone asks about the best way to eat tempe 'Deliciously' is 'how tf are you outdonesian eat tempe?!'
Cuz, when she says 'normally' ' is the normal way in indonesia, which is not always normal in foreign country.
She forgot to mention, in indonesia, everything needs to be cook. Even the veggies, except few of some veggies.
And the meat, traditionally, always cooked well-done. Any medium rare or some salad kind of with mayo is not originally from indonesia.
I feel like, like anya said, just some salt and dry heat and it's somewhat hard to go wrong. Lotta other ways on top of that-- I've seen several Japanese food outlets here serve them deep fried coated in panko, which I really enjoy though. Also worth noting since it is a fermented food, if you let it sit around for too long it can get pretty intense but most tempe is well before that funky stage. Probably unironically the food item I'd struggle to live without the most if it wasn't there.
The best dish for tempe are:
- 1st "Jangan Lombok" a.k.a "sayur cabe" a.k.a "chili broth" , but don't be mistaken , its not actually a chili broth , its a tempe broth , its a coconut milk dish using green chili ,garlic and tempe .
-2nd "tempe orek" a.k.a "stir tempe" there's 3 kind of this the plain simple one , the balado one , and the original savory with soy sauce one .
-3rd is the "gorengan" a.k.a deepfried with flour coating , 2 type of this the simple usual one , and the classy mendoan .
-4th and last are "the normal" simply cut slice it about 5mm-2cm thick then deep fried it after marinating it with spices seasoning (no flour involved) and enjoy it with steaming white rice and any sambal you like .
U can fry it after braised in a fridge for 2 hour or treat it like tempura pretty good too.
I believe someone who sells tempe in the US sell them in different flavours, I forgot what they were, sweet, fruity or something.
Indonesians will probably find it weird.
I believe simple fried tempe has dryness levels (compare to rare/med/done of steak), I like the almost crispy one
Sasuga holoJP gak tau cara makan tempe yg uenak, udah pasti kan tempe goreng tepung paling enak 😋😋😋
I like it with spicy sweet soy sauce, i dont know whats it called in English.
Basically just a sweet soy sauce with chilli and onion.
Malah ngomongin steak.
