When English is NOT the Primary Language

  • According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 68 million Americans speak a language other than English at home. That's about 1 in every 5 people. There are at least 350 different languages spoken in the U.S., which means there are millions of Americans for whom English is NOT the primary language. This video describes 5 actions we can take to improve communication with these individuals. It represents the sixth video in a series I created on NOISE, which is anything that interferes with the accurate transmission of a message between a sender and a receiver. Language differences are a very common type of CULTURAL NOISE.
