I think Tyler thinks that because like that guy had to make the choice to sell the parts to save his family, Tyler is saving the clique because we all know he saves lives of suicidal/depressed ppl, but what does the selling of faulty parts mean? Maybe Tyler is just pouring his soul into writing his music to save the clique like the pilot basically had to commit mass murder to save the fam. Or maybe Tyler just thinks his songs aren't perfect yet and is trying to make them perfect.

Kevin Deegan They (tøp) said the story represents the moral dilemmas in general that we all go through in life, such as choosing to do right or wrong, which is why Tyler chose the name for the band. I don't think he takes the faulty parts thing too literally.
I think the faulty parts relates to them in the way that it would be so much easier to cut corners and make the type of music that would get them popular super fast, but would also be kind of artificial and insincere to them. I know Tyler once said in an interview that sometimes there would be things that they didn't feel like doing, but would have to do anyways in order to cultivate an organic career and fan base
