  • Welcome to your Somatic Yoga practice (↓Open for more!). This class is accessible to all levels, including beginners to somatic yoga practices.
    If you would like to learn more about somatics, kindly read the following blog post: www.yogawithrachelmarie.com/p...
    Somatic yoga is about finding what feels good in your body. Somatic practices invite you to explore your inner landscape with curiosity. You are invited to get out of your head and into your body as you explore various movements. The focus is not on alignment or mastering a pose, it’s on your internal experience while in motion or in stillness. Movement still occurs in stillness-your breath, blood, lymph-are all in motion even when you’re not engaging in physical movement. This inward practice can bring to light habitual movement patterns in your body, which can contribute to pain, tension, and movement restrictions, which can impact your range of motion and flexibility.
    Somatic practices are usually low to the ground and involve slow movements. The pace of this practice may stir up feelings of discomfort. Allow the discomfort to surface. We can learn so much about ourselves when we lean into discomfort.
    My very first somatics practice was a challenge because I was so used to being told what to do and how to do it. The stillness and the quiet also created discomfort in my body as I was used to doing, not simply being. Somatics helped me get back into my body. It helped create a felt inner sense of safety and well-being. As I relaxed into my practice, I realized just how much my body was craving stillness, a slower pace, as well as the option to explore what feels good for me. Little did I know that somatics would be useful for chronic pain, anxiety, emotional processing, as well as panic attacks. It is a transformative practice-I don’t say these words lightly. If you stick with it, it can create lasting changes in your mind, body, heart and spirit.
    There’s no right or wrong experience in somatic practices. Your experiences are unique to you. Each time you show up on the mat will likely feel different as each day is different. Meet yourself wherever you are.
    Feel free to let me know how this practice goes for you in the comments!
    Sending love & light to you!

    Thank you! My first somatic yoga practice. I was a faithful yogi for several years. Then in 2020 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent chemo, surgery and radiation. I’m now cancer free but here I am, 4 years later and do no exercise at all. I’ve tried to get back to some form of exercise with no luck. I decided to try somatic yoga. My body has been wound tight like a spring for the past few years. I felt the tension releasing. Thank you!

    My experience with this video, especially at 15:00 was a full body deep breath. Sooooo good Rachel. You have all of us tuning into the deeper somatic parts of ourselves. This is the yoga practiced I needed today. Thank you my friend. xo

      Hi Andrea! Your comment warms my heart so much ❤️ Thank you so much for your kind words and for your feedback! Doesn't it feel amazing to take a full, deep breath? Restrictions in the body can affect the flow of breath. Somatic practices are fantastic for softening those areas, allowing for a deeper and more buoyant breath to be experienced. I appreciate you being here! Thank you for your continued support 🤗 Have an awesome rest of your day 🙏

    First time trying yoga. I noticed an unreal amount of tension in my body. At times my breath went into deeper breathing I’m guessing opening my breath due to releasing tension. I still have a lot. How often should I do this?

    Thanks! I have tension in jaw now. I liked drawing small circles with my crown in easy pose and imagining it is drawing a color on the ceiling(I chose blue).

    • @YogawithRachel
      @YogawithRachel  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi Tristan! You are most welcome 🤗 I'm sorry to hear about the tension in your jaw. Gentle spinal movements, from the pelvis all the way to the cervical spine (neck), can be very useful for releasing tension that can accumulate in the jaw. Breathwork practices, like lion's breath, can offer a nice release to the facial muscles. Thank you for sharing which movement you enjoyed the most! Love the color you selected for your pencil crayon! Thank you so much for being here, and also for your continued support 😊 Take care🙏

      Hi there! You're most welcome 🤗 With somatic practices, you may notice emotions surfacing in different areas of your body. When this happens for me, I lean into the emotion (as long as it feels safe in my body to do so), get curious about it, see if there's any thoughts, images, colors, or a shape attached to the emotion. It's so fascinating what can come up during somatic practices! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I appreciate you being here 💜 Enjoy the rest of your day! 🙏

      Hey there! Are you referring to the subtitles in the video? On desktop, you can manually drag the subtitles to another area in the video. Unfortunately, that feature is not available on mobile. You can also turn off closed captions on the video. I hope that this helps! Take care 🤗🙏
