  • In this inaugural episode of Guitars in Hand with Dan Kanter, Dan sits down with blues guitar legend, Colin James. Dan gets a first-hand lesson in electric blues when he digs deep into Colin's catalogue - and we learn what gear Colin would want if stranded on a desert island.
Guitars in Hand is a new series from the CBC Music Lab, where Dan Kanter - longtime guitarist for Justin Bieber - sits down with some of the world's best guitar players, diving into their unique styles, greatest riffs and the impact they've had on the music world. Kanter is not only an accomplished guitarist, but also a student of many styles of playing. Throughout the series, he'll be treated to intimate guitar lessons from the players who have created some of the biggest sounds in music in a candid, behind-the-scenes look at what makes guitar players tick.

Self acceptance is very important but this guy takes love of oneself to a whole new level. I brought my son to blues festival here in Edmonton yesterday. My son along with a "small fringe of Albertans" waited in the autograph line for 45 minutes. Colin James was the ONLY ONE WHO REFUSED TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS. Thanks but no thanks Mr. James. Alberta is just fine without you, I'm pretty sure Ontario must be missing their town hero, best you head home little man. As for ALL OTHER PERFORMERS thank you so very much for giving my son an amazing experience. Heads up to future performers coming to our beautiful city; Alberta doesn't appreciate over inflated egos xo

A lot of uncomfirmed assumptions concerning the circumstances of this incident. Alberta has its share of egocentrics, like other provinces.

I like Ian and his band, but the reason they were never bigger is because they had no style. They played generic rock that was popularized in the 70s, while ignoring the cultural shift of the 90s. It was a recipe for failure from day one. Great players though.
