Mountain house has up to 50% sale on Freeze dried Food. I think their 3 day food bucket is on sale also. Also if you have a water storage containers like shown in the video the (200 plus water containers) you need to constantly check for bacteria. If you have roof catch system animal and bird poop can get into your water system. Also make sure you roof shingles are not the old Asbestos type, to be on the safe side.

Most garden vegetables take up to 5 months to harvest. So if you plan to rely on them for prepping, make sure you store 6 months of food in your home.

Buy Refried Beans, saves you a bunch of energy, look how much water and 4 hours of boiling. Refried Beans, you can spice up and eat cold if necessary. Tuna, sardines, Mackerel, Rice, but your first need should be water storage and filtering,

Good to see you again, JR. We have been slowly but surely adding to our preps and enjoying the bounty from our small garden. We expect to continue and increase our preps, including expanding the garden in the spring, and using a rocket stove to boil maple syrup too! Stay well!!

If you can boil water, many combinations of a dried carb and a canned protein open up to you. A box of Deluxe Mac & Cheese (no need for milk) with a can of Tuna dumped in it is a pair of meals (or a meal for two) for around $2 which harkens back to college days.

I am new at awareness and prepping, I have several cases of each of your general vegetables but from what I understand greens are substantially better than the average vegetable.Beans, from what I understand are better kept after pressure canning because the older they are,it takes lots of energy to prepare...I'm also a Texan ☮️

This is both a survival question and a nutritional question.
Beans tend to provide protein vs other vegetables but each vegetable provides unique nutrients
      A variety is best.

I like your common sense and you have some great ideas. I grow indoors under led growlights in my pantry and those foods are green onions, bell peppers, parsley, Red lettuce, romaine lettuce, spinach, ginger and I also have a miniature dwarf orange mandarin tree. I grow other veggies outdoors in spring, summer and fall. I do smoke meat as well as dry fruit, onions, veggies and
Herbs. That includes medicinal herbs, Teas, and of course catnip. I make candles and save the wax for lighting and I’ve made modified rocket stoves that help heat and keep water hot. My stoves work on votive candles (8 votives and 1 larger candle in the center. Every shopping trip is when I can pick up up extra propane or kerosene. I’ve also laid in a good amount of medical supplies and food
For my cats. It takes time but it’s well worth it. My vehicle is always ready to roll and my camping gear is in the trunk. I also keep an extra rocket stove plus the votive candles in the trunk.

I really enjoyed this video. I like when information is broken down into digestible pieces so I can process what is important for first steps and so on so I'm not too overwhelmed at one time.
I noticed you were storing spices in Mylar bags that were in containers already. I wasn't aware you had to do this. I have been storing mine in clear plastic waterproof containers so I can see what I have since I live in a very small apartment with little to no room to.prep.
I am stacking these containers and using them for
furniture. In this manner I'm able to cover them up with different materials to match my room as well as my mood.

Thank you JR, as usual great content. Along the way I have learned a heck of a lot from your videos and you may very well be the difference that will help a lot of people survive. I started with simply packing away rice, lots of rice, various beans, instant potatoes, pasta, powdered milk, powdered drink mixes, honey, sugar, flour and lots of canned foods that could be eaten from the can if needed. I added different ways to cook food off the grid, vegetable seeds, water storage and filters based a lot on your recommendations. I then added some battery generators that I can charge with solar panels. Lately I've been concentrating on more long term dehydrated food and survival food along with home security issues. Again, thank you.

Good point about the dangers of raw beans/rice, many who follow the "" beans n rice "" mantra will be poisoning/starving themselves for lack of cooking....and cooked rice stored too long without good refrigeration is notorious for food poisoning (the spores on rice are not all killed by normal cooking temperatures)... There are complete meal replacement drinks (sold for patients with extra nutritional needs.) full of protein and micro-nutrients which need no cooking, shelf life is a couple of years, but probably better value for nutrition than stuff like mountain house.

When talking livestock, quail are a great option for smaller spaces, even in apartments. They mature to adulthood in 7 weeks and the average quail will pop out 300 eggs a year. Get an incubator and you can put a ridiculous amount of meat on the table.

Rabbits raised for meat won't be any less fatty than chicken. It's mainly when you try to eat a lot of starving animals when you're starving too. Raising animals in some way and keeping them fed over winter is probably the only real way to survive long term.
