- A woman shares her story of addiction and her successful recover thanks to the drug Methadone. Dr. Edwin A. Salsitz (Medical Director, Office Based Opioid Therapy, Beth Israel Medical Center) describes the medical effects of Methadone, as well as reminding us that "physical dependency [on Methadone] does not equal addiction."

In all seriousness methadone did save my life, its like she sayid; it made me feel normal and able to function in everyday life which might seem insignificant, but to a lifetime heroin addict this is completely life changing just to be able to live without the stress of finding our next "fix"
Same here, yes there is bad that comes with it, but the positives outweigh the negatives for a long-time junkie like me.
Wait until you get a least 10 years on this and i bet you will not say the same about this shit..i can tell after 18 years my body its in pain 24/7 and i am always clean not even a cigarrette or beer..
@@jmr6117 I feel you, Methadone can become a curse after being on it so long. I hated some of the side effects so I took it for a year then tapered off. Never want to get back on it again but at the same time it was a blessing because it helped me get off dope/fentanyl
Thank you so much for this. I actually had tears while watching this. Some people won’t understand. I was addicted to heroin for 3 years and lost everything. All money and trust my family my relationships all gone. Got arrested my reputation all destroyed. I was a junkie loser. By The grace of God I met an amazing doctor who put me on methadone and I wasn’t sure I was doing the right thing but by following what the doctor told me now I am almost 3 years clean and sober and I have my life back. My family. An amazing fiancé and I’m doing what I wanna do in life. Which is acting. and I’m actually saving money now. When I’m ready I’ll detox very slowly but I’m not worrying about that right now. I’m also seeing a therapist. Doing what I need to be doing. I’d pick being on methadone rather than doing the stuff I was doing any day. I’m forever grateful. I could care less what the negative ppl have to say. They’re either not doing the program right or they’re still using. I’m not in my prison of addiction anymore and when I’m ready I will taper off very slowly with my loved ones. One day at a time🙏🏼
Does it help with pain ? Thank you 😊
Bro if I can tell you let me share something with you make sure to get off before 2 years or you’ll stay on too long it must damage the heart I know someone who died from heart failure and my heart hurts and I bleed and my prostate it messes with yuh bro I’m only 30 and trying to get off but now cuz covid I started smoking shit again after being clean for 7 years
@@francesgillotti1378 Yes it is one of if not the best pain meds and much, much, cleaner than opiate pain meds.
One day ..good look but don't stay here to long cuz you will see what methadone really its ,i can tell after 18 years clean no bullshit and always los dose ,right now i am in 22 mg i try to quit this a hundred times, i get to 1 mg 3mg 5 mg 12 mg 15 mg 25 mg and always get so sick and i have to go back..and i taper just 1mg a week so its not that i tape to fast either ok..so good luck to you in this Journey.
@@alexcarson9638 i can tell my self 18 years and this bullshit fuck my life..and its Hard to quit i am in 22 mg and its hard..
very right on. please continue to spread this word, no one believes an addict but may believe a doctor.
I have a wonderful doctor at my clinic, but Dr. Salsitz is just amazing! I wish everybody could have a doctor like him. So many people are ill informed about methadone, I hope that changes one day because methadone has saved my life. It's given me my life back as well.
To anyone who is here, and thinking about getting treatment, please, don't wait another second. You can do it, it's going to be difficult, and scary, but you can do it. Once you get on a medication, or you detox, whichever you choose, you'll never look back.
boy, you do not know what you're getting yourself into, its easier for me to come off a 3 gram a day 5 year long smack habit than fuckin methadone
8runie exactly bro you know what you’re talking about unlike that idiot. I’ve been on methadone almost clean for couple years now and it saved my life too. Ppl think we’re gonna like kick methadone in couple days or something it’s obviously going to take a while if we do decide to taper. Keep doing your thing bro fuck everyone else like this idiot
Cryo Gyro man stfu
Exactly i see no point in coming off methadone. Ive never been so succesful at work and my life is so much better and i owe it all to this medicine.
I'm probably only alive today because if methadone. 13 years now.
You’re stupid. Did you even watch the video? Addiction and physical dependency to a medicine is completely different. Fucken idiot
Preach!! So many think they know it all and have no idea.
Dr. Salsitz is an intelligent caring doctor who 'gets it' better than most health professionals in this challenging field. His patients and society are lucky to have him.
Richard M he was my dr for years and excellent
I truly appreciate this post 100 percent. My family thinks my methadone treatment is equal to heroin and that's just not true. Gosh I wish I had a physician like him to make my old southern conservative backwards immediate family understand. Many just do not understand, I am proud of my recovery with methadone despite what others say.
Don't they see how much b!after your doing not struggling to cop every day. What other people think is out of ur control no matter the genetic connection. But what helps you to stay in control IS in your control
*better
Very good..very informative
I definitely felt euphoria the first couple days. I was in rehab 18 days so i was off opiates for 3 weeks before I got on methadone
Big mistake, why you don't get vivitrol better this shit will k8ll you slowly you will see if you stay for years like me 18 years.
My lord,First doc I could actually listen to for more than a single app.I’m so tired of hearing about this so called Opioid epidemic. I knew the medical community would never stand for letting a patient out the door with a $3 pill easing your pain. If so they lose the surgeries, physical therapy’s ,Occ.therapy and all the other things that are real expensive. But when you find the right woman it is a beautiful thing.
That is a very important clarification…with methadone you may be physically dependent but you are not addicted! What does that mean? It means when you’re addicted your entire life revolves around scoring your next hit/dose. You’re begging, borrowing or stealing in order to obtain your fix. You want to get high to dull your feelings and emotions. Your life becomes unmanageable. Under methadone care you do not crave those feelings anymore. You do not need the illicit opiates and drugs, you are not getting high or chasing the dragon…you are stabilized thereby able to obtain and maintain a productive life, you’re able to work, take care of your family and become a productive member of society. With and through the team of the methadone clinic, your counselors, doctors and peers you are not stigmatized, you do not have to jump ship so to speak putting yourself at risk of withdrawal. When the time is right you can slowly and with professional supervision wean off the methadone while continuing on as a healthy and productive member of society!
It is good for withdrawals but unless you plan on taking it all your life you still need to kick another (harder) addiction, good luck to all trying to beat this disease 💓
Im on 116Mg of methadone and idk why more people dont do it
I was a 120 man lol
@@stevenlennon12why don’t you take it anymore
