- Note by note comparison of Whitney and Mariah's belting range in their 40s, which for Whitney is 2003-2012 and for Mariah is 2009-2019. Please don't take this as too much of a competition. It's really more of a showcase of how great they both still were so late into their careers.
For those wondering why I didn't choose better notes in some cases, I tried to avoid relying on once in a blue moon performances like Beacon 2014 for Mariah. I could have easily gotten better Bb4s, B4s, and Eb5s from Beacon but it seemed more accurate to feature a wide variety of clips. Also, the one 2009 clip I used for Mariah's E5 was in her very early 40s but so was Whitney's 2004 clip. Mariah has a couple clips here where she's pushing 50 too.

Whitney's tone was the best ever, the most beautiful ever! Mariah's whispery, airy, nasal, souless and robotic voice was/is annoying most of the time.

Whitney's voice is similar to the voices of other black people, with an ugly timbre, she screams rather than sings. That D5 Whitney hit!!! So clear and powerful for that era! The moments when her voice cleared up you realize that she didn't lose as much range as we thought. If we had the chance to experience her voice when she stopped smoking cigarettes I think we would be pleasantly surprised. And she had better moments in the later years than displayed here, btw.

If Whitney Houston has no addiction, she is still good at singing. Her voice was literally destroyed by drugs, smoke, and alcohol. But at the end of that, no one can still replace her prime. She is still the best among the other's and inspired a lot of singers like me and for the future singers too. I love Mariah Carey's voice It's unique, with airier and whisperer sounds. But when it comes to Whitney Houston my hands is hands down. Stop comparing these to legendary diva because they're both different in all aspects.

Whitney's voice wasn't "damaged", It was inflamed, so whenever she started caring for her voice, her voice could easily go back to how it was in the late 90s.
I agree. Only about 10-20% of her loss of range was due to aging I think. If she took good care of her voice she could still belt up to F#5 no problem even in the 2000s.
Mariah's voice was more intact, but I still think Whitney's overall ability was more intact on a good day - she still had vibrato and flexibility throughout her full chest range. Overall though, Mariah was more pleasant to listen to for sure.

I was tempted to but those are very early 40s (literally 40 years old) for Mariah, and most of the Whitney clips I used are from her late 40s, so I didn’t think it would be fair if I relied too much on MOAIA

Sorry but whitney is a mess in those clips... This is yelling, not singing. She once had a good voice but mariah always had the better more warmer and more versatile voice. And mariah is a true artist and not just a singer.

That was certainly not the only thing that whitney had! She had a piercing head voice, a nice sounding vibrato, and also had that velvet tone when singing.

She was actually born in 69, but her company profiled her as 1970 to make her seem younger. It was actually a mystery for a long time until a local newspaper with her birth announcement was found

In her old interviews when asked her age it would correspond w her being born in 70. Ig she could be lying but I don’t understand why they would lie by just one year. Like it sounds way younger to be a 70s kid than a 60s kid, just like being a 2000s kid makes you sound younger than a 90s kid. If wHITNEY SANG WITH Mariah's mic, she would have to hold the mic further from her mouth. Whitney sings with a lot of dynamics, volume control. Something that Mariah never could do... Their mic settings are very different.
