  • @zurvey

    You have no idea how helpful this was for me. Thank you. I am looking to mount an Elgato Facecam to a podium, and its edges are not horizontal but vertical. That changes everything, and I am having a very tough time finding a boom arm that I'm confident will not spin or move after it is in place. The time you spend with the clamp helps me a lot. In your opinion, would this be a good arm to clamp to a vertical piece wooden edge instead of horizontal?

    hi, you noticed the magnetic plates, you wished they where on the bottom ?? is it possible to loosen that screw that far it comes off and flip that arm basicly upside down and screw it back ? then you can put the cable in there when it comes from under the microphone.

  • @Tilt_TM
    @Tilt_TM Před rokem +2

    I agree that the more practical solution would be to have the cable storage on the bottom of the arm, but I think the reason they didn't do that is because the weight of the cables would likely make the plates fall off. They would have to use very strong magnets or some other plate retention mechanism to keep that from happening.

    • @Erick726
      @Erick726 Před rokem +1

      They can afford strong magnets. They just cheaped out. I'd pay an extra $5 bucks for some strong magnets and under storage. heck I'd pay an extra $20 if they had a more elegant design than knobs and an Allen wrench. It looks flimsy and I move my gear around a lot in a day so I can imagine it breaking after a year.

    @Erick726 Před rokem

    Those are a lot of compromises with this mic arm. I'm on the fence. I do prefer an under vs over setup but those magnets are super weak and the joints seem like they're hard to manage. Instead of having to loosen and tighten as I go which would eventually break the joints I'd prefer something with tension that just stays where I put it. As someone who adjusts things a hundred times a day I'm not sure I trust tension knobs and Allen wrenches.

  • @GerhardCombrink

    Great review I ended up buying this whole setup based on how flexible it is with the mounting options (I got the one that you don't need the Allen key so it has a knob to tighten by hand.. Got one question though if you don't mind answering. The extension tube? I'm planning on buying a gain booster so will want to mount the extension tube on it... Is it the elgato extension rod your using or the shure one.. I know this arm comes with adapters but unsure what I should buy.
    Many thanks

    I just recently got this arm and my SM7B seems way too heavy, I feel like I’m over tightening one of the arms just to keep it up, any reason why this is? Or is it typically normal to feel like you have to really put a lot of strength into tightening it?

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  Před 2 lety +3

      I think you can see in this video, we never had to put an unusual amount of effort into tightening the stand to hold the microphone in a variety of positions.
      This is why we try to leave these videos long and without cutting out all of the mundane details - we try to demonstrate what it's like to actually use it.
      You shouldn't need a tool or extra leverage to tighten the tension knobs.

      @@_Doom_20 It looks like there may be two versions of this product floating around. One that has an additional knob (where the two arms connect), and another that requires an Allen key for that location.
      At the moment, if you go to the official product page, you can even see photos showing two different versions.
      I received the version with the knob, and it seems to hold my Rode Procaster (with added pop filter and shock mount) just fine. I did have to tighten it quite a bit, though. I have the Shure SM7B arriving this week, and am hoping that'll work just as well with this arm.
      If you notice in the video, @Kettner Creative seems to have the version with the knob.
      I'd be curious to know which version people are using when they're reporting that this arm doesn't hold weight. @Radio Impound Podcast and @James Morales Photography ?
