    Gotta take into account most the actors are EIGHTEEN that’s crazy, personally for me this is the best gay rep I’ve seen. Better than love Simon/Victor. It’s definitely UP there with Young royals.

    I'm gonna say it now: you won't like the pacing, because they don't mention much the time passing. In the comics it's pretty obvious when days/weeks/months are passing, but the show doesn't make it so explicit, so you'll probably think things are rushed when actually it's just that they aren't really showing the time passing. I think for the first episode, for example, it were a least like a couple of weeks.

    • @AnnekeOosterink
      @AnnekeOosterink Před 2 lety +18

      I mean, they explicitly mention the passing of months in ep2 and the whole hi - hi montage is pretty obviously meant to represent at the very least like a week, but more likely some weeks. Then there's the rugby montage which includes two dressing room shots, so is also at the very least taking place on three separate occasions. They're not explicitly labeling the weeks or months but it's pretty clear that quite some time is passing.

    • @Ctrl-XYZ
      @Ctrl-XYZ Před 4 měsíci

      In the first scene, the headmaster says "Happy New Year" over the loudspeaker, and Charlie's phone shows "Monday 4th January." His teacher also tells him Happy New Year. In the final scene with Ben when he says "It's not even cold," Charlie tells him "It's February." When Nick looks at his phone in his mum's car, it says "Monday 1 February." So if you're paying attention, it shouldn't be hard to figure out how much time has passed. Same for the other episodes.

    I mean their teens in high school what else are they supposed to act like??¿¿ So that's very confusing, They nailed it perfectly especially coming from a novel into live action which is something special now if you would have read the novels maybe you'd appreciate it more and things would click more easily just a thought.

  • @erikperhs_

    I was shocked when Olivia came, too! I agree with you about the episode being shallow, since, I mean, I watched the first ep together with my friend and I'm more excited than her because for starter, I was able to read the comic so I know what to expect from it unlike her. So there's that, but yeah, I agree since watching the first episode feels like the typical netflix teen shows out there. BUT, I can assure you that it's not! I think you'll like the next episodes more 😉. Great reaction and review!

    I'm not gonna lie, you are gonna HATE the pacing of this show. I have read the comics before and in that format it doesnt feel so off, but knowing you, you are gonna hate the time skips with barely any mention. Just be prepared, they tried to adapt comic format to a tv show format and overall I'd say they did pretty well, and stuck by a lot of the original work, but the overall pace feels really weird. This show will def feel really cheese at times for relying on stereotypes a bit much, but in otherways it will go above and beyond in terms of character development and dialogue. There are some beautiful shots in the next episodes too that are just breath taking. Hope you enjoy the ride

    It is such a cute series! I don't know about the comics but I loved it nontheless. The relationships no matter romantic or platonic are great and way more realistic for teenagers than shows that cast 20 somethings as high schoolers.

    This series means so much to me. The fact that I wish I had this show when I was in middle school and first questioning/freaking out about my sexuality. Yes it's light-hearted, yes it's cheesy, but there is such a lack of good accurate lgbtq+ representation in media that doesn't just end in a tragic way. I really found it all to be such a breath of fresh air : watching a beautiful queer story without having to worry about something horrible happening to one of the characters and just destroying the relationship or sth, for once... it feels like a warm blanket :)

    The whole show just feels very fictional, especially the sexual assault scene coming along with the hero saving the beauty plot. The characters’ images and plots are nothing new from every fiction in general. But there’s not many lgbtq shows like this out there, so it’s good to see this all soft and sweet fairy tale.

    I think episodes 3-8 are soo much better than the first 2. I actually was kinda dissapointed when i started watching it with a friend. It seemed like a very cliché romance show and the chemistry between Charlie and nick felt so rushed. I didn't hate it but it also wasn't something special. But in episode 3 I really got into it and from that point forward the show was amazing. I actually want to read the comics/books now because I believe that the time that passes between the different scenes comes across more clearly and i just love getting to know the characters even more.

      it's based on a comic/graphic novel, yes! the show is very similar to the comic at least in the first half and it mirrors the pace of it too, but while for a comic the quick pacing works, here in this first episode it does feel rushed. I adore the comics, there are some cliche tropes but I find it unique compared to other lgbt media that has come out recently, it is sincere, wholesome and while there are things that might feel comical to older viewers, I think its a pretty accurate representation of teenagers at that age. I enjoyed the show but as so many book to film adaptions do, it added too much unnecessary angst, which the lack of was actually one of the best parts of the comics for me

    Just started watching this and came to see your reaction. Tbh I agree: it was too fast-paced for the first episode and the acting wasn’t great. I wasn’t invested in the romance at all because he just liked him straight away. A little build up would’ve served it better.
    The acting isn’t great, I know they’re young but so were the ST kids and they were/are phenomenal actors but they were a bit of an anomaly I guess. Hopefully they will improve.
    Overall seems like a cute show for the target audience. I’m too old (late 20s) to relate to a lot of this now I think: it’s so very different to my own school days. You can tell it’s geared toward young teens. I’m glad people are enjoying it though.

    The acting isn’t that great? LOL that’s a weird take. Wait. Are you straight? Because I’ve noticed that can be a factor in sensing chemistry and even the subtlety in the acting of these specific characters. I feel like since straight people haven’t really lived with a lackof representation and have never had to hide who they love or get bullied for it, there’s a lot of nuance that gets missed.
