Why is it so hard to understand that in some states fire and EMS volunteers run blue lights and in some states they run red? In Michigan we run red lights and siren, your light has to be visible 360* and you must have a siren. Some departments however do not allow there members to have red lights because of department policy.
It's illegal just to own the lights unless you have an Evoc Certification, and if you are a fire marshal according to the township I live in, Only fire marshals and EMTS in POVS are allowed to run red lights in a SAFE Manner after clearing an intersection. Fire Marshals when not working as paid but are requested for immediate investigation, they are allowed to run as if it is a normal fire call in a fire truck. EMTS are allowed because they are responding for medicals.
he had a light on his roof too. dash lights, grille lights, or blinking head and taillights are NOT illegal as long as you have at least 1 light that is 360. cops usually give volunteers 10 over the speed limit if they're going to a call. and what do u expect a firefighter to do when goin to a fire w/entrapment, slow down to 5 mph and wait for the car to be completely off the road to go by? no theyre going to pass them even if its a double yellow and cops arent going to do shit about it.
360 is optional? Seems kind of dangerous if all you have to clear traffic are front lights... Im in a combination dept with 300 volunteers. We have to have AT LEAST reds on all sides, amber, white, blue are optional.
