Very little difference between this SS and a regular Impala. As a teenager in the late 60's I had the four door hard top 1961 Impala , same as this white exterior with red interior and a 348cu in standard shift on the column. (wilkinsburg pa.)

As a kid not quite a teenager I seen a few of these cars and even after getting my drivers license at the age of 16 I would come across a few occasionally I remember them well❤

Didn't bring the money. Likely because they didn't have the documentation. If there is not any documentation, I would assume it's not a real 409 SS. People fake these all the time.

My mother’s 2nd husband had I believe it was a 61 rag top 409 four speed. This would have been purchased new most likely from California and then he settled in Ga. Traded to Day’s Chevrolet in Acworth Ga, Mr. Day kept it in his private collection from what I remember. I remember my mother talking about driving it. Right after that he bought a corvair I suppose that was his way of purchasing a family car

I believe this was NOT a 409 from the factory. The 373 rear end is also questionable. I was there in 61 and myself as well as friends always would go with the 410-11 ratios.
Nice looking car though, got to have the documents to get biggg money.

The 409 in 1961 had one carter afb 4 bbl solid lifters and was 360 horsepower. They only way you can prove that car came with a 409 there were numbers stamped into the block on the passenger side just in front of the head. Most of those have been machined away. The id plate only told whether a 6 or v8 and place of manufacture. Also most of the records with gm were lost in a fire.

In 1961 the 409 motor was only available with a single 4 barrel Carter carburetor. This car almost certainly did not have a 1961 409 motor in it (more likely a 1962 - 1964) and the chances of it being a REAL 1961 Impala SS are two...slim...and NONE.
Someone got took to the cleaners on this one...
