    If anyone is wondering how to add this to your car alarm system to pop trunk using remote. You need to buy a RELAY and wire it like this: Wire the Relay as such - Pin 86 & 87 to 12V Fused to Constant, Pin 85 to Trunk Release Input(trunk release wire from your alarm), Pin 30 to Trunk Release Output (wire from Relay to Green wire to Solenoid). Hope that helps.

    Thank you for making this video. I have a 2002 Mazda Protege that I'm going to be adding a Push-To-Start kit upgrade to. It features remote trunk release which I want to use with my setup aswell. I found this electric trunk release kit on amazon but had no clue how to even install it in order to take advantage of the remote feature- This video made me understand the whole setup and installation. Thank you for saving me the headache for the whole installation process!

    When you press the button, the solenoid pulls the lever. But what causes the solenoid to return again? Is it electrically H bridge in the switch or some mechanical spring etc? :) Thank you

    nice video, late to the game here but is there a way to get the remote trunk pop feature on a remote start keyfob without using the button? My car already has a decent trunk release and the button wouldn't match the interior at all/be rudundant. I suppose worst case I could hide the button in the trunk next to the solenoid.

      Unfortunately your existing alarm must have provisions for remote trunk release, to allow you to use this mod. This is why I had to install a new alarm system to be able to activate this device via the key fob.

    Why you wrap the green wire on the hinge like that? It looks messy! I would've ran it along with the other wires and tape it or zip tie it all together to give it a clean factory look! Being it's green, it already stands out from the rest of the wires! But I guess as long it works, it shouldn't matter! Nice job installing it and keep up the great work!

    Nice diy dude, only thing is when you close the trunk the olenoid moves front so that again when you press the button it moves back and opens the lock right? So basically its powered one way

    • @TheAutoDIYGuy
      @TheAutoDIYGuy  Před 6 lety

      Well actually...the solenoid opens the lock when the button is pressed. The lock is closed when you close the trunk. The solenoid literally does the exact same thing as the lever you usually pull to pop the trunk.

      4 years late but the answer is No. this system allows you to unlock it via key fob, And release button. You can still unlock it via key or pulling the lever if you want to. The trunk will lock no matter what if you close it.

      I noticed that the remote start push start kit you listed isnt available on Amazon anymore. I am looking to aliexpress for my stuff, both push to start, remote start, trunk release kit and also open close window and wing mirror. Do you have any tutorials for the last two?

    • @TheAutoDIYGuy
      @TheAutoDIYGuy  Před 6 lety

      Hey...the seller just doesn't have the kit with that particular key fob at the moment. However, check this...www.amazon.com/dp/B00HCBEYW0/_encoding=UTF8?ref=exp_inf_pl_influencer-abe9144c . This is the same kit from the same seller, just with a different keyfob. In terms of opening and closing windows, and wing mirrors, that would require a more sophisticated alarm system, which I'm not sure exists on a mass-market type of alarm system. What you're looking for, is probably more application-specific. The only thing I can suggest there is asking the seller "EasyGuard" on Amazon if he has an alarm system which incorporates those features as well. Here's his email address, incase you're interested: eddykwok@foxmail.com . He's very responsive (back when I used to ask millions of questions before and after purchasing it from him), and speaks (well types) and understands English surprisingly well. Give it a shot, and let me know.

    From the alarm system trunk wire ? Or does it have to be connected to battery first? ( I am not going to use the button from the kit as I have a cable trunk release already I just want to be able to use the key fob to release trunk)

    • @thomasherring6640
      @thomasherring6640 Před 4 lety +3

      I know you posted this question a while ago, and have probably worked this out by now, but for anyone else who might stumble across this question, the answer is no, you can not power the solenoid directly from an alarm / remote starter system. The solenoid draws too much current. You will need to use a relay between them. The relay will have four connections to it, and you will need to know if the signal from your remote system is positive or negative.
      You can connect your remote system output to pin 85 on the relay. If the remote output is positive, then pin 86 on your relay goes to chassis ground. If the remote output is negative, then pin 86 on your relay goes to battery positive through a small (3 amp or less will be fine) fuse. Pin 30 on your relay goes to battery positive, and you use what ever size fuse the solenoid kit calls for on that power wire. Pin 87 of your relay then goes to the solenoid positive.

      @@thomasherring6640 i wired it up exactly as you wrote, but it still doesn't work. Same solenoid, wiring it to a DS4+. Does the relay need to be a 12v or a 5v? I read somewhere else that the relay has to match the output voltage(?)

    • @thomasherring6640
      @thomasherring6640 Před 4 lety

      @@jonnyrussell3982 I expect that the output from your remote system is 12v. Did you check the output wire to determine if it is a negative, or positive output?

    • @jonnyrussell3982
      @jonnyrussell3982 Před 4 lety

      @@thomasherring6640 the diagram lists it as a negative output. It's really baffling me, I've tried all manner of wiring it to 3 different 12v relays, in different configurations, and it just will not signal the solenoid. The solenoid works fine, though with a button connection.

    • @thomasherring6640
      @thomasherring6640 Před 4 lety

      Can you use a multimeter, or at least a 12v circuit tester to verify that you are actually getting a 12V Negative signal on that wire when you push the button on the remote?
      It is possible that you have to activate a setting on the remote, or you need to hold that button down instead of just pushing it, or something else silly like that.

    im having problems on getting the solenoid (same brand as yours) to pull far and strong enough to pull the lever to open the trunk. I am sure that I have the loop and wire as small and tight as possible. I'm also sure that nothing is hitting anything.
    I feel that the solonoid needs to pull further and stronger away. Any thoughts?

    • @TheAutoDIYGuy
      @TheAutoDIYGuy  Před 7 lety

      Hot Cheetos I had the same issue... But I realized after all of the fidgeting and adjustments, that the solenoid needs to be practically perfectly in line with the lever to be pulled to open the trunk.
      Oh also... Make sure that you leave slack inside the solenoid as well... I remember that was also an issue for me. I just assumed that if I pull it out all the way and then tie it that it'll work, but nope... So try pulling it out about halfway from inside the solenoid before tying it off to the lever.
      One last thing... Make sure the lever can be opened easily by pulling the lever manually.

    • @hotcheetos2709
      @hotcheetos2709 Před 7 lety

      Thanks for your reply. Before trying out your suggestion, I decided to try one last thing since I didn't want to relocate the solenoid. Basically, I stretched the tension spring on the lever and it worked!
      Now, I'm stuck on trying to program the trunk release to my auxiliary button on my viper 3002 alarm remotes. Do you think that you could help me figure it out? I've already hooked the wire to the 1st hole on the main harness (H1/1) of the viper box.
