  • In Episode 105 Part 3 the guys have been considering the fact that sometimes they need to decide whether a game should be a minis game, or a card game or something else. Well, Glenn does, Mike just makes it into a minis game anyway. But if you're making the same considerations Glenn has some reasons for why you might go one way rather than another, this part of the conversation is about the sorts of loops you want players to go through when getting better at your game.

Sometimes I see miniatures games that make a lot of effort into removing the aspect of the game that I really enjoy… like the hobby part, or the list building… when I find I’m missing something I generally move to a different game.
I like when games provide me an excuse to get some models. In theory Hobgoblin was perfect for me, as I got five armies for Oathmark plus a lot of fantasy models that do not fit in that game, but it’s the things that I don’t have that keep me interested… like the surma that is a six-legged basilisk, where almost all available ones are eight-legged, finding dark age looking ogres that do not are in Italian wars attire like the old empire minis, specially ‘cause I want 12 of them… I felt Hobgoblin was so open, that I wasn’t able to get an excuse to build an army, cause my enjoyment of wargaming comes more from the collecting and hobbying rather than the actual gaming… if I already built an army for another game, what’s the point of using that army in another system? Even if I wanted to use Oathmark minis for a Hobgoblin army I’d probably buy new ones… but I need the game to give me an excuse.

I totally get that I and I feel much the same. Hobgoblin is more about being able to build your army around your minis rather than the other way around.

@@RuleofCarnage I know supplements are not exciting but maybe a sample forces extra so it can spark my army building engine can be interesting. Maybe community driven to strengthen the community

@@steeldrac Mike and I have spoken on the channel before, and Hobgoblin just isn't a game intended to appeal to the Player-artist type, and I'm not sure if it could be sensibly made to work for them. I say that as quite strongly that way inclined myself, but Mike made some design choices and sometimes that's just how things fall out.

Dear people of Rule of Carnage, can I ask you why it is that all my comments (except one, to date) have been removed? Is it some CZcams thing I don't know about? Is it you enforcing a community policy I don't know about? Either way, could you help me understand what I am doing wrong? Because I find your topics very interesting and would like to contribute to the conversation. Thanks :)

I'm not sure exactly why it happens, but all I can say is that its CZcams doing it automatically not us. I get notified when comments are posted and fairly regularly I go to respond and they're not there, I honestly can't see much pattern or reason to it, but have no power to stop it and don't know why it occurs, sorry.
