    If you notice on the PFD, once you enter the hold, the soft key next to "CDI" will be labeled "SUSP". This suspends the route and allows you to stay in the hold indefinitely. The proper procedure to exit the hold is to click the "SUSP" button. This will keep you in the hold until you reach the holding fix then automatically activate the next leg and continue the flight. If you wish to exit the hold early (ie. turn back on course before completing the leg you're on) then you can delete the hold but you must manually fly over the holding fix and activate the next leg to continue.

    Ive noticed something interesting with the g1000, especially when compared to airliners, that many times the aircraft will take a very aggressive angle back toward the flight plan route in order to intercept it. Ive seen it turn hard one direction and then fairly quickly intercept and the bank hard the opposite direction to line up with the flight path. Seems that there would be programming within the system to soften the entry angle to the flight path. Just something interesting Ive taken note of. As you said, it isnt all mighty.

    Great Video. Thanks. Your videos are very well explained. I was suprised that the auto pilot did not use a standard rate turn to intercept the next leg once you exited the hold.

    This video demonstrates how not to exit the hold. To exit just press the Suspend soft key. This will exit the hold at the holding point and continue the flight plan.

    I'd go direct to waypoint if the turn is screwed up. It's not the standard procedure but is quicker and safe. Anyway thanks for producing one more nice tutorial.

      Yes, sometimes in simulator can't do proper procedure because plane doesn't really follow the GPS, it's OK to take direct.

    The default turn rate in the hold was 10 degrees. Is that default rate adjustable?

    Hi, I have just watched this tutorial, and was wondering if it would be quicker to exit the hold by using the 'Direct to' method. It should be quicker as the aircraft would be forced to turn to the next waypoint rather than following the hold pattern to the next waypoint. Just a thought, I will be trying that the next time I'm in the flightsim. Any thoughts? Cheers and thank you again.

    • @FlyOverGames
      @FlyOverGames  Před 2 lety

      Yes you are right it would be quicker but it is not proper procedure to exit hold. Thanks for the comment.

      This may also not be what ATC wants. Usually they will require you to fly over the holding fix before you continue the route. You could go direct to the holding fix and manually activate the next leg. If we wanted a plane to exit hold before it completed the lap it was on, we would usually give a clearance such as "Cleared to LDZA via direct MONID then as previously cleared", leaving it up to the pilot to navigate to MONID and continue on course. Depending on your current position in the hold, going direct to RUDIK may not be a proper way to proceed, especially if the course to RUDIK and the holding course are different (in this case they are both heading 356 so it would probably be ok in this instance).

      As a caveat, with the permission of ATC of course!

    If you want to exit the hold pattern early, can you just reduce the time of the hold? Thanks

    • @FlyOverGames
      @FlyOverGames  Před 2 lety

      Actually can't, because the time of the hold determines how long will be one leg of hold, and the hold has 4 legs, so if you reduce time, you will just shrink the hold. The easiest way to exit the hold is to put direct-to or exit manually.

      Entered and exited my first hold today. Watched this video yesterday, then today I had an issue with my AP on descent not starting at the TD for some reason. When I took notice of it, I was much too close to the approach phase, so I entered a hold and descended until ready to continue. Thanks for the video
