    For those of you who are bashing reiki as being a 'placebo effect', well ... maybe it is that. Maybe it is just a person waving their hands over other's heads and making symbols.
    But you know what is important? It is important to the person having it done on.
    One can argue that 'well, those reiki masters are ripping people off by getting money and the client gets nothing'. True, there have been people like that, but in all fields from mediums, to palm readers, to even evangelists.
    But I watched my mother suffer through cancer for 7 years, up to the day she died. The pain she went through was intense, chemotherapy tearing her apart. But she found solace in the relaxation of reiki and feng shui. Softly meditating and listening tot he sounds of the ocean.
    I saw how reiki helped her even if it was all in her mind, for that one day. One day of peace and no pain. And you know what? I am happy it did.

      What a beautiful comment, although very sorry about your mum. That's it in a nutshell. I read somewhere, when I was very little, that you can't hear the music with your eyes, but we all know it exists. I guess that opened my mind to things I might not believe or understand, but then I might be just trying to listen with my eyes. Anything that gives people peace and rest, placebo effect very much included, is damn welcome in my book.

It’s nice when there’s something to take your mind off of things and allows you to just focus on what feels comforting.

      is it really a placebo effect in this case? I'm not saying it's magic but it's one person actively making another person more-so relaxed i.e. lowering blood pressure, stressors, and so on.
      With some actual data to back those things up, I'd maybe even put this somewhere around actual science. Not one with data and the likes, but possibly toss it into paychology and let them have their way with it. Who knows. Either way, I'm excited to see if reiki/ASMR will ever even get picked up for research.

I also recognise the obvious fact that some people's voices and movements are relaxing, soothing and pleasant. Do you know what causes a body to heal? What is the nerve centre of every being? What sends out the information to heal a body?
      The brain!
      If your mind is put in a state where it believes that what is happening is healing the body, then the mind will ACT to ACTUALLY heal the body.
      If you take painkillers for a headache with the thought of them not working, 9 times out of 10, they won't work. If you believe your headache will not go, even with medication, then the thought of the headache will linger, making you still feel and experience the pain, because you're keeping what that pain feels like in your mind.
      Things like reiki and other kinds of mind medicine, or even anything that causes a placebo effect, clears your mind of ailments, therefore acting as somewhat of a painkiller. Whilst this painkiller is active, it gives your body chance to do its work without any of the negative effects. It keeps the thought of the pain you felt out of your mind, and, with regular sessions, you'll continue to be pain free until whatever the ailment you had has healed. That's how it works. Your mind puts you in a better state so your body can do its work better than when you're feeling in pain.
      It's pretty common knowledge that a stressed head will cause ailments to heal slower, and can even CAUSE ailments, such as headaches, which can lead to much worse things like migraines, and even a potential brain hemorrhage. Keeping the mind relaxed and stress-free can prevent this kind of thing.

Believing something is real does not answer questions about the unknown, it doesn't generate explanations which can then be used to find out new information and in fact can be disproved by existing explanations for observed phenomena, therefore isn't real.

    For educational purposes, reiki is a form of aura/energy/spirit cleansing, which some will argue are all the same thing. My take on it is that they are all /parts/ of the same thing and these are basically the ingredients for the soul. The point of reiki is for the healer to tune into the vibrations of the person she's working on and she's then to feel out and extract the negative energies. They may come in different sensations to her such as a light heat or just a feeling in the pit of your stomach. Some people are blessed with this sort of gift and there are other gifts that fall under the larger category of abilities. You might know of clairvoyance, clairaudience, healing hands etc. If youre skeptical, thats ok, theyre your thoughts, but theres no need to shun others who experience this amazing part of life.

    • @haidengeary8277
      @haidengeary8277 Před 9 lety

      People shun it because theres no evidence whatsoever to support it. But there is much evidence to support it being a placebo. I'm not suggesting it may not help others. And I'd never complain unless someone attempted to suggest it's anything but a placebo.
      Take for example, "The Law of Attraction", which people attempt to suggest it is backed by science. Which it is not. Until people start teaching this in school, or suggest, again, it is backed by science, I'd not argue it.

    I too was a Reiki skeptic. I decided to take the classes and be initiated to see what might happen. During my first Reiki Attunement, I experienced something mystical. As the Reiki Master made the rounds to each reiki student, and got closer and closer to me, my body started shaking and buzzing. Tears started flowing from my eyes like a river. I was confused and yet awed by my bodies response to the coming attunment which is likened to Reiki being installed into your crown chakra. When the Reiki master approached me and put her hands over my crown, I felt like my whole body was fluttering. she must have known what I was experiencing because she whispered in my ear that she would have to circle back later. She must have known the energy was too strong for me. After I settled down a bit, and got grounded, she returned and did the attunement. A similar experience occurred during my second level class. Buzzing, tremors, and uncontrollable but inaudible weeping like I was being emotionally cleansed. Made me a firm believer in Reiki. I’ve also had distant reiki healings that were profound... and the Reiki Master was also a Shaman and could see my soul, my past, my present and my future. She never met me but knew so much about me and rightly predicted my future. She saw trauma that I had suffered when I was 7 and in my 30s. She saw that I’d be getting a new career in as if a windfall, which I did 3 weeks later when a coworker up and quit. My career went in a whole new direction. I was floored when I remembered this was foreseen by my shaman/Reiki healer. I understand your skepticism, and if your like me, you have to see or feel it to experience it. So my advice to you is try new stuff with an open mind. Don’t let fear get in your way and go to someone who is reputable and truly gifted in the healing arts.

    • @louthinator
      @louthinator Před 5 lety +2

      and for those of us who have tried with an open mind and got nothing? you gonna turn around and say "just keep trying till you get it right? sorry bud, I'm not throwing my time and money at something that doesn't work. I'm glad you got your life turned around and got over your trauma, kinda wish you had gotten actual counseling for it but even if it's placebo, at least you're getting some help. The thing is these people are running a business at the end of the day, if I buy into the product and it doesn't work, the answer isn't to go back, the answer is to find a product that does work and use that instead.
      There is a real danger in calling businesses like this "healing" or "treatment." what happens in this has no chemical benefit to your body and people using this hoping it will be a panacea to diseases, including ones that would be terminal without proper medical attention are being scammed not just out of their money, but every day they go without the proper treatment, is another year of someone's life that "healer" has just stolen in exchange for a little extra cash.

    This sort of thing can seem like a lot of hooey, but my mom is actually a 2nd level reiki master and healing touch practitioner i never believed in it but after having her work on me i could definitely feel it! Not only that but when she would do the reiki her hands would get so hot from the energy she was channeling that se would have to plunge them into cold water to cool them down, there is definitely something to this healing art! If it could work on someone like me it as to be real!

    • @AmazingMReviews
      @AmazingMReviews Před 9 lety +2

      Sierra Price ASMR tingles are not the same as the purported feelings one is supposed to get from reiki. To say they are the same is to insult the concepts of each.
      I had reiki done on me to help cure my degenerative vitreous syndrome. It did not. Anyone can perform reiki, they just make it up as they go along. There is no science behind it, it's just another scam in the factory of scams that is the New Age spirituality. If it really worked, everyone would be using it. Hospitals would cease to exist.
