Ruger 1022 vs Marlin 60 vs Remington 552

- In this video I briefly discuss three popular .22 hunting rifles. I will be comparing them at my range in terms of accuracy, dependability, and overall design, fit and finish. If you own a Ruger 1022, Marlin 60, or Remington 552, you will find this little review quite interesting.
My mother bought a Remington 552 in 1959. I was 10 years old at the time. I hunted with that rifle for many years. Mom was a crack shot herself, and we had many hours of plinking fun with that rifle. Sadly the gun disappeared when she passed away. I am the only child so I don't know where the gun went unless mom took it with her. Thank you so much for this video sir. It sure brought back some wonderful memories.
Oh my goodness, Bittersweet memories last forever. Like you said, your mother may have taken that rifle with her, but maybe she just tucked it away somewhere, or perhaps she sold it. If there is a serial number, you might be able to locate it.
I have a pretty good idea of who took it, but sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie. A lot of folks going to be sad come judgement day. I have a Mod 60, an old Rossie M92 pump, and recently bought a 1022. also a Ruger precision in .22Mag. I enjoy plinking now that I am older. Keep the videos rolling brother. @@CumberlandOutdoorsman
@@grumpygrumpgrump136You’re a better man than me. I just couldn’t let that dog lie.
@@mrsmartypants_1 I did have to go confront the main suspect to recover other property that was taken. However, they would never admit to the theft of the gun. Me being a police officer ( this occurred out of my jurisdiction ) decided it was not worth the trouble to risk destroying my career by doing something stupid. One day they will pay my friend.
@@grumpygrumpgrump136 Gotcha. That makes sense and you obviously made a wise decision.
The first firearm I ever bought with my own money (around 1980) was a Marlin 60 for the huge sum of $45 brand new at Woolco, I still have it and even though I have many more "refined" squirrel rifles now, I still enjoy hunting with the old 60.
Same here about the same time bought with at the Camp Lejeune PX with saved up pocket change
That's funny mine was the same thing only from Kmart in a case with a shitty Tasco scope wife gave it away at as garage sale I was not happy it was selling it to buy a remington 552 that was a piece of shit
Paid $49 at Wally World in late 79, and it came with the crappy Tasco scope. Still have the scope just not on the rifle.
An old squirrel hunter here. Got a new Rem 552 fifty-four yrs ago. Have a 10/22 and one of my squirrel hunting buddies had a Glenfield Marlin 60. Never once has the 552 ever jammed. I hate to say it but the Marlin jammed quiet often. I love my 552 Speedmaster way more than my 10/22.
Those Marlin 60's are a bit finicky, and some won't cycle certain types of ammo.
My 60 never jammed.
My Marlin has never "jammed" on me. Never used/shot a 552 but I do have a 550-1 and the only "jam" I ever remember having was with .22 shorts, with longs or LR I can't say I ever remember a "jam".
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman for me it is my 10/22 that is finnicky compared to my other .22 rifles.
This is one of the best firearms videos on CZcams: no clickbait, clear and thorough presentation, informative, and entertaining. I have all three of these rifles and each one does what it does extremely well. I prefer the way the Remington handles because the 'off hand' does the charging. It may also be a preference for left-handed shooters. Bravo and sub'd!
Thank you sir!
im 52 and still have my remington 552 bdl speed master…purchased when i was 19 …still love my marlin 39a golden 22 better though
The Marlin 39A is just a top class .22. They are built like a tank!
Since Ruger is making Marlins, they would make money on both models and more choices for the public. Sounds to me like a win - win situation.
Sound reasoning. It would be nice also if Ruger improved some of the internal components of the model 60.
Another great video. While I own and use the Remington 572 pumps and Ruger 10/22's, my brother owned the 552 Speedmaster, and I always loved that rifle for its ability to shoot shorts, longs and LR. Same as my pumps, and they are accurate too. However, my first ever 22 auto was a used Marlin 60, and while it was a great 22, I loved the 572 pump I bought later.
I have the same 552 - looks exactly like yours and shoots just as good. I've had it for over 50 years and have never wanted anything else. Thanks for the video.
The marlin 60 is the easiest to carry all day and is very accurate. I like the tube magazine too.
When tyranny finally gets its way and takes away clip feeds, rifles like the Marlin 60 will still be around. I have the same one in this vid.
I like the m.60 because it don't need a magazine, then it blew my mind when I seen the quick loaders for the m.60.
@@Lt_Tragg not really, they want to do away with tube fed rifles that hold over 10 rounds (doubt it will happen).
The detachable mag. Is the way to go. I have 10, 15, 25, and 30 found ones I use, but mostly the 5 10 round ones. I can load all 5 and put them in pockets or just 1 or 2.
I have several 22 rifles, revolvers, and pistols. I like the 10/22s I have best.
I have one of each of those rifles , I’m with you and lean towards the speedmaster more often than the others , also I have a Remington model 4 rolling block in 22 lr that is very dear to me , keep up the 22 videos I just love them and thanks again !!!
There's more coming, so stay tuned. 😊
Marlin 60 the best
Had mine since 79
Same here 1979 Glenfield 60 with squirrel on the grip.
Can't field strip and clean a marlin as easy as a 10/22
Same here as well mine has the Squirrel stock and rough rider inlay
@@richbutler7828 not as easy maybe but still can be done. Just think about this and I base this on experience having owned three 10/22's and a Model 60, when that 10/22 needs to be field stripped the Marlin will still be shooting (that is assuming both guns were cleaned before heavy use at a range). In my experience Marlins are more tolerable to residue than the 10/22 and yes I know a whole lot of shooting will have to be done before a cleaning is needed for either rifle.
Traded for a 552 Speedmaster in 1971. Never had one problem, even running mixed LR, L, and Shorts. Remington built the first .22 that could use any ammo. All the other manufacturers followed suit a few years later. The 23 inch barrel is extremely accurate. Gave it a complete overhaul to like new.
A very good video, I have a Marlin model 60 and a Ruger 10/22 thy both are good shooters I personally prefer the Marlin. Good ammo makes a big difference
Thank you.
Another great video. I have a 1977 Marlin Glenfield without the squirrel stock. Great shooting rifle. Really enjoy your videos.
We have a Marlin model 60. We also have two Marlin model 60 anniversary editions. We also have a Remington 552. The 552 has never been shot yet. I have a Remington pump 22LR also. It hasn't been fired yet either.
Just a note to say I really like your videos. I enjoy your straight forward method and letting us see your results without too much talk, just the right amount of talk.
As a young man, I was about the big and loud guns. Now I have aged to the point where I enjoy the little 22 LR and 22 WMR much more. My hunting adventures are now just punching paper and trying to shoot small groups.
My collection now includes:
Remington 510 Target Mater
Remington 550-1
Stevens 66B Buckhorn
Ruger American Rimfire 22LR Standard
Ruger American Rimfire 22WMR "Predator"
Ruger 10/22 Collector Series 2
Ruger Super Wrangler
Ruger Wrangler Birdshead
Smith and Wesson Victory 22LR
I have my eye on a 75th Anniversary MK IV. Now I have to convince my wife that I need that new gun. The swelling should go down in a couple days. ;)
Keep up the good work.
Received a new Remington 572A Fieldmaster as a 12 year old. A pump action. Sixty-one years ago. Still have it. Had a lot of fun with it. I took it clear down and cleaned it and put it back together recently. Oiled but gently, wiped down, put in a rifle sock. Them thar semi autos are nice, I have a Model 60 myself. The one with the longer barrel. They need to be cleaned thoroughly after much use. Most guns do, but especially an auto loader. I also have a Marlin 39M lever action, walnut furniture. Love it. Beats the pants off most any handgun if you are interested in home defense. Put the round(s) where they do the most good. Thank you.
I have been straight up Marlin man for years, owning 6 of them. I did have a fling with my Remington 597 for several years but I tired of it. Recently I got first a Remington 572 Fieldmaster and am quite addled with it. Then I got a Ruger 10-22 Collectors Series and I am pretty impressed with it. I actually believe that you would like the Collectors Series 10-22 if you tried one.
When I found the Fieldmaster, they also had 2 552s but I didn't want another semi-auto.
I'm so glad that I picked the 572 instead. Pricy but worth every penny.
Like your channel tons! Thanks Cumberland, looking forward to seeing this content.
Great video as usual sir! My favorite channel! Big squirrel hunter here in GA! Love the 22s! 🐿
Thank you for the great review of these classic American 22lr semi-autos. My 1994 10/22 wood-stocked rifle is topped with a classic 1960's era Weaver K-4 scope. A delight to shoot with CCI 40gr Mini-Mag ammo. Thank you again. All the best.
I have a SS model 60 and a 1967 10/22. Both are good rifles. Actually the 10/22 is a carbine.
I like the Marlin. It’s easy to work on and clean. The tube magazine is my favorite too.
I’m the opposite. I like magazines… hate taking that long rod/ spring out. But I still own one and like it. Just like my Ruger better
I think the Marlin is an inferior design.. thing is like a mousetrap
Great to see you again. Doug
Your channel is probably my number one channel too watch simple and old school information and simple thanks for sharing your info and time making these videos
Another very pleasant morning with my coffee and one of your videos. Thank you very much!
I'm glad I can add to your enjoyable morning coffee rituals. 😊
Thanks love your comments I’m a older shooter love guns 22 are my favorite but I have the big boys too. I was taught to hunt and respect guns by the best my Dad. And I have a few of his and they are the my favorites. Thanks again.
Great comparison Tom, that old Remington shot really good. Good content.
Thanks Doug.
Thank you for the video! I really enjoyed. I have bought all three in the past. I've kept the Remington and Marlin, but sold the Ruger.
you can always find another 1022...not so much with good 552s and 60s
Love the video. I have a squirrel 60 1976 model, a speedmaster 552 1965 model and a Remington 550-1 from the 50’s. Live them all but my favorite is the 550-1. It shoots shorts, long, and long rifle just like the speedmaster does. (Which I’m surprised you didn’t mention). Oh I forgot, also have a newer Henry .22. Feel like the Rifleman when I shoot that one. 😂
You're right, I forgot to include the fact that the Remington Speedmaster can shoot short, long and long rifle cartridges interchangeably. I did feature the rifle in a previous review where I did include that information. About four years ago I had the chance to get a 550-1 for $200. Wish I had that chance again. Sometimes we decide against our better judgement and that is one of those moments we regret.
Thanks for another great video. I really enjoy your videos on .22's. Your video brings back some good memories for me since I once owned all three rifles you tested.
I don't own that many firearms anymore but I have owned several .22's over the past 55 years. They range from cheaper plinking rifles to Anschutz target rifles. All of them were fun to own and shoot. You do a great job on testing .22's as well as your gunsmithing. Keep up the good work! Kindest personal regards from a long time .22 shooter.
I have two 552 speed masters, they are very accurate just like the one that you used in this video. Ruger 1022's are also good guns. I have owned several of the Marlin 60 models, both new and used and every one of them jammed even after cleaning them. I don't own none of them now and I won't ever own another one.
A jamming gun no matter what it is can be frustrating. I have found that there is usually something mechanically wrong with an internal part of the Marlin 60 if it jams.
The Remingtons Have always been the most accurate of the three. Oddly, I've owned a bushel basket of the 10/22's.
Many years ago, Ray Judge's Gun Shop In Tenn built me a bull barreled 10/22 that was a fantastically accurate gun.
this was in the mid 70's. Many years before Ruger came out with a heavy barreled competition style one.
I once saw a takedown Browning .22 that a bull barrel on it, (custo made of course, and always wanted to try that out.
Sadly, A.T. Uragan Air Gun with my own cast slugs would make you throw rocks at any of those groups. It will hold tighter than that at 100 Yards. But then again it cost a whole lot more than those three all put together. A lot more. LOL!
Most accurate .22 I've ever owned was a bull barreled Anschutz. It was unreal!!!
KnifeMaker
I got a Speedmaster for Christmas when I was 12 which would be 1980. Still have that rifle. Love it love it love it!
Good for you for holding on to something that you admire for so long.
Still one of my most favorite channels Tom!
good call on the bore snake and light. I can see some old crotchety weekend dealer snubbing his nose at it though behind the table at the show. Lol
Great comparison 👍👍
I got lucky about 2 years ago and found a Glenfield M60 with the sportsman badge in the stock at a pawn shop. Had it priced at $50. Needless to say it came home with me
Another great video, thanks!
I own a Marlin/Glenfield 60 and 3 Ruger 10/22's. Two of the 10/22 are custom builds with target barrels, aftermarket triggers, red dot sights and aftermarket stocks. Of all my rimfire rifles/carbines the out of the box 10/22 is the one that I use the most. Accurate, reliable, light weight and just plain fun to shoot. Thanks for a great video.
still would like to see you shoot this same scenario with the cci mini-mags.
That sounds like a great video idea.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman the 40gr round nose has always been very ackrit in my Glenfield Mod 60's over the years and when I say ackrit, I mean 15 shots inside the orange dot on the target at 50 yds. Of course I would have the dreaded flyer on almost every group but for the most part I would completely cover the orange dot with the 15 shots. Look forward to some more shootin'
Always enjoy your channel
Thanks!😊
Great video, I owned a 552 for many years and never had a minutes trouble out of it and a few years ago I sold it to a good friend of mine who had shot it at my house many times and wanted it very bad. so I sold it to him for triple what I had paid for it in 1975 after watching your video I now wish I had it back. I think I will give him a call !!!
I've got the old Remington I always have never let me down 😊🎉
Thank you. I really enjoyed this. Those 3 are great rifles.
Another fine video Cumberland!!
I miss my 552 I bought as a boy in the late 70’s, sold to upgrade to a Browning SA…… The ole 552 was a fun rifle!!
Great video buddy its hard not to love a good ole 22. All 3 of yours are keepers take care my friend.
Great video! I would have liked to see you go one step farther and shoot each rifle with it's favorite ammo to see how they'd do at their very best.
The moral of the story is ,,if you miss with one of these rifles ,,it’s your fault ,,,or the squirrel moved
My first rifle was the Marlin model 60 with a 4X scope I bought at K-Mart for around $65.00 in 1977. I still have it. I also have a Ruger 10-22. Love both of them. The Marlin will jam after two boxes. I take a toothbrush and clean out all of the crud and it works just fine. The Ruger just works no matter how many boxes I run through it. Stay safe everyone and have fun plinking.
Great video as always. I’d rather see the the new ruger marlin make the 39A. Now that would be awesome.
Another great video. I have a 1998 Ruger 10/22 and have taken many grey and red squirrels with it. I'm with you and like the 10 round mags, although I'm in ny and can't have a mag over 10 for it anyway (though tube fed 22 rimfires are exempt from this restriction). I now have my NY state pistol permit with the semi auto rifle endorsement, so hopefully I'll be able to get a Marlin model 60 and maybe some 22 handguns. Keep up the great work
It is a shame that you have to get permits from that commie state just to buy a pistol or a semiauto rifle.
That's great! It's just too bad that certain states require law abiding, good hearted folks like you to have a permit for something that is your right by the Constitution.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman Yes, it is unfortunate. I'm just glad I'm not in NYC, which is 10x worse than the rest of the state. Thankfully, i live upstate (Washington County) and the permit process wasn't terrible, not that I agree with it. The process varies from county to county too.
Really like this vid. Thankyou.
Exellent video buddy, for my renington 552 beatiful, I have marlin 60 old gun exellet
My savage mark 2 loves the standard velocity and the quiets too
I also have a model 60 squirrel stock with the longer barrel and mag tube, it's a favorite..you my find the Sporter version of the 10/22 more to your liking, as it addresses the points you made on the standard..although it is still a little thick in the middle...
i had a 10/22 years ago with wood stock. i have been thru a few 22, i just said i would try a ruger again this one has the plastic stock WOW fantasic love it dead on!!
Nice video! I have several 22 rifles. Including my Dad's Browning SA 22 Made in Belgium 1972. I inherited. I would never let that one go. But if I had to choose just 1 of my others to keep above all others. It would have to be my Remington 550-1 made Sept. 1955. Barrel is stamped Williams patent # . Really cool I think. The thing has never! And I mean never jammed. I've had dud rounds of course. But if the round fires. It's going to be ejected. The next one chambered!!! It's extremely accurate. The weight and feel is superb. Just a fine 22 rifle. The only con. Is cleaning it. After about 500 round the floating chamber needs taking out. Giving a good cleaning and light oiling.
Ruger 1022 is an amazing gun especially if you plan on modding it. If you like a very well built classic looking 22 the speedmaster can’t be beat out of the box it’s awesome. You really need to shoot one for awhile to fully appreciate what it is. It’s so easy to clean and it’s holding its own well against the out of the box accuracy of the marlin model 60. If you have the funds for a speedmaster it’s very nice. I’ve shot all 3 and have had the least jams by far with the speedmaster. There’s pros and cons to each one and I’d say the biggest con of the speedmaster isn’t its accuracy, reliability or ease of cleaning but rather its price. You can buy and very nice 10-22 for that amount of money. I think the speedmaster is the most well built of the 3 and definitely most reliable.
.The Speedmaster is indeed a handsome rifle. I wonder if Remington will continue making it now that they are based in Georgia instead of Ilion NY?
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman I’m not sure. Congress or whatever has been talking about the non detachable tube mags that hold over 10 rounds. I think they want to declare them assault weapons lol
Love the Speedmaster! Love the 10/22. Never owned a 60. I don’t know why. I like Glenfields because you get a Marlin at a discount. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to try that sk ammo👍🏼
My first own gun was a Marlin model 60 from Walmart in 1989
Great video. Really enjoyed it. I have a Rem 550-1. Which came first; the 550 or the 552?
Thanks
The 550 was first, also a fine rifle that will shoot shorts, longs, and long rifle ammo.
I have the 552 also. was given to me when I was a wee lad back in the very early 1960's. Havent shot it in a long time, mostly because i've been stuck with indoor ranges and was using larger calibers in both pistol and rifle. I do love some 22lr though and have been buying 22 shorts just for the 552 and if needed in a revolver. Also have the 10/22 stainless takedown. Never been fired yet.... Not a huge fan of the tube fed except in my lever guns but never had issues so its just a personal preference but i like that it can shoot 22 short 22 long and 22 long rifle.
I've still got the Remington 552 Speedmaster with 4x scope I purchased more than 50 years ago. It's extremely accurate to where I almost wish I had more scope but I've left it like it is. It's one of the few firearms I'll never sell.
I grew up with a 552 Speedmaster. Unfortunately I let it go. They are a bit heavier, but they are great guns!
Great video, I love all 22's, you highlight the best of the USA, but some old European guns will deliver as good if not better...the fun is in shooting different loads to find the sweet spot...then hunting, A good video would be comparing 22 scopes side by side, there is a great difference in models affordable to the platforms you compared, and some will enhance, some will degrade. Love your channel and watch it as a favorite.
Thanks! There are so many rimfire scopes out there, I suppose I could gather a few for a comparison review.
First of all I think all three rifles are great, I have a 1022 in a sporter model that my girlfriend bought me back in 1966 for Christmas and that girlfriend is my wife today for going on 58 yrs, I have taken countless squirrels and other critters with it and have done lots of plinking with and never had a jamming problem or misfire unless it happened to be the cartridge on the misfire and it still functions great to this day, as far as maybe discontinuing the model 60 I think they should continue with it and give everyone the opportunity to choose between the two, thanks for sharing and take care.
I could not agree more, but currently it's nice to know the model 60 is available almost anywhere used guns are sold.
What barrel length would you prefer on a .22LR if you could have your choice? Have you observed a velocity increase of any significance with 20-22" barrels versus the standard 18.5 inch?
I like a full sized rifle with a 22-25 inch barrel. In terms of velocity increase....that will be in an upcoming video.
Enjoyed it sir
Nice video! What kind of camera do you use for filming your videos?
I use two different models. One is the Panasonic HDC-TM80, and a Panasonic HC-V180.
Many many years ago I owned a 552 but the the barrel came loose and I have since turned to bolt action rifles . I do have a 10/22 sporter but the accuracy is not there. My recent purchase of a CZ 457 with 28 inch barrel gives one hole groups with iron sights at 25 yrds .
Great video! Really enjoyed this one, Have to agree I favor the 552. It is my 742(30 06) little brother. I need to get some SK ammo and try in my 552. Have you used the SK ammo for hunting? Another one is the Remington 597. It may have competed with the Ruger 1022 if was sill being made. My 597 shoots well but I lean to the wood stock guns more. Thanks for sharing.
The Ruger 10/22 Carbine is in a class by it's self compared to all other common .22 rifles. Magazine fed, easy to field strip breaks down into components like a military rifle. lots of add on parts made for them. That makes it the best common .22LR rifle in the world.
I have owned three 10/22's last one was bought new three years ago and was the best of the three. In 79 I bought a Marlin/Glenfield model 60 with squirrel stock and Rough Rider badge inlay. I also have my father's Remington 550-1 that was bought by him used in 1950. All three guns are fantastic shooters. Due to let's say sentimental issues I no longer hunt with Dad's gun nor do much plinking because it was dads and will be handed down to my kids. Same goes for my Model 60 it was the first gun I ever bought and like the 550-1 is all original no parts nor repairs have ever been replaced/performed on either rifle. The 10/22 was bought to take over hunting and plinking duties and though it is only a few years old and shoots fantastically it has already had to have the trigger assembly replaced. The 10/22 is the most finnicky of the three about ammo but not that bad really just comparatively to the others. Don't think I do not ever shoot the Marlin or Remington anymore because I do take them out to the range on occasion and put a few rounds down-range. The best groups I get is with the Model 60, but I have to admit I have put more rounds through that gun than any I own. I hunted with the Marlin starting the day I bought it till a few years ago when I basically retired it so yeah, I should get the best groups with it. All that aside I love the three I mentioned here but they aren't all the 22 rifles I have. Gotta love .22's best gun ever for small/medium game, varmint, control, and plinking.
Some times companies do dumb stuff, lime Remington stoping production on the 788 ,it became popular , shoots tighter than the 700, and cost less,,, Remington wanted to sell more 700's so the stoped the 788, line,,, I love my 788,,,, I can litteraly drive tacks with it at 75 yards,,,, I used to shoot empty cases, taking out the primer 💪💪💪 243 Winchester
I own all 3 and they all shoot very good
Nice vid. Subbed
Thanks!
What are your thoughts about shooting with a clean bore compared to a fowled barrel?
It looks like your first shot through all three of the rifles were a bit of a flyer, compared to the following 4 shots.
I think that is a common phenomenon. Usually a rifle will shoot into a tighter group if the gun has had a few fouling shots put through the barrel.
I see that your 552 has the ejection sheild for a left hand shooter. I have my dad's 552. It has that sheild and the safety has been switched too. I agree with you about the 552 being extremely accurate. My Marlin 75C isn't as accurate as the 552 but the Marlin has put dinner on the table more than once. Thanks for the video.
Love my speed master my dad had a Winchester liked it to
1970 Marlin 60... I still own it, it's still sweet.
For those who don't know, OLD Remingtons are a lot better than the newer ones. I've got two 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge shotguns that were made in 1956 (both of them!) within a few months of when I was born. They are much better made than anything they have made in the last twenty years. Not an MIM part on either of them. REAL metal.
They are more similar
ruger 10/22
Marlin model 75 glenfield
I would love to see them head to head
Hello my friend. Because of the huge amount of after market parts for the 10/22, I would say that is the most popular. But I will say, the Marlin model 60 is most likely the most sought after and appreciated. Keep well and raise hell. Dave & The Girls.
Thanks. That's a good way of describing the situation around these two guns.
2nd shot 2nd group with the 552 looked like a flyer. Remington has always made fine 22s. The 552 also has the advantage of shooting shorts, longs and long rifles interchangeably. I have a 550-1 that does as well. It is very accurate as well.
I currently own a Ruger 10/22 SS Sporter model and a 1996 Marlin model 60 also in SS. I once owned a Remington 552 but it was stolen. I wish I still had that 552!
I have a Marlin model 60. I've replaced the recoil spring because it was bent. But I'm still having problems with the rifle will not eject the spent shell. How do I fix this?
The only issue I have with the Marlin model 60. Is it so hard to disassemble and clean?
The question is which 10/22? Regular or custom shop that started with the left handed version, but is now available in both?
I am pretty sure it's just the regular version.
I will keep my CZ512 Thank you 😊
Never had a Marlin 60. But I have owned 2 M70's & a 795. Too many 10/22's ta remember. I have two now. A TD & a HB I assembled
I put off buying a 10/22 for years. partly because I live in PA and for a long time you cold not hunt with a auto rifle. But i bought one and I am kicking my self for not buying one sooner.
I too have a few regrets regarding past decisions.
Interesting. I didn’t know some states had such laws (semi-autos that is).
I bought my Rem. 552 Speed Master new back in 1974. I believe it has a 21 inch barrel. shoots Shorts, Longs and Long Rifle ammo. It's my favorite also. I also own 2 different Distributer Special 1022's . One is a Sporter model with a 21 inch barrel. I have own Marlin's also. I also own a Winchester Espert Model, Bolt action with a 10 rd, rotary mag. It shoots good also. I never own a 22 that I didn't like.
what weight grain bullets 36 gr did better than the 40 gr. CCI
Whatever happened to the Nylon 66 ?
Sold the Ruger as it had to be sent back due to sighting inaccuracies. Owned 2 Model 60 Marlin rifles. First in 1970 was stolen got another, put a decent scope on and use CCI ammo. Can't miss if I tried. Marlin 60 for the win!
I had a mod 60 that i dunked the bore and all moving parts in sweetshooters, in a steel trough, put in a oven at 130 degrees, for a week. Then did the same thing, with molybdenum disulfide paste. With a 6 x 24 scope, and depending on ammo....and i tested all 22 ammo.... It was half moa or better, at 100, for 5 shot groups, not 3. The biggest problem with 22s is, there's so many different brands and types of 22 ammo, that u can test day in and day oyt, for a couple weeks, to find, say, 5 brands and types of ammo, your rifle will sub moa with.
I’ve seen 7-11 stores on opposite corners. I asked why. The clerk that I asked worked regularly at both stores. The answer was customer preference. They had very, very few customers in common.
I said that to say this. If it was my decision, I’d absolutely build both rifles if it was profitable. I’d never buy a Marlin I love my 10/22.
I have that 552 in the BDL version and regardless of the ammo in LR or short it’s a tack driver at 50 yrds 4x scoped.
Own a 10/22 also and can’t say one bad thing about it except it won’t shoot shorts😀
