I wanted to make a stand-alone video for this to raise awareness of the glitch.
I don't think it's that unlikely that a player backtracks after getting to the secret passage and accidentally destroys the save file.
EDIT: We did it, the glitch was fixed!

I have but I just closed and reopened the game and it let me back in the cave. It didn’t save after I talked to the toad so I didn’t have a problem
hopefully it gets patched out lol
Luckily I got suspicious at the first part of the glitch and closed and reopened the game without saving after the first part of the glitch

Makes sense its like stacking cards into a tower only for them to collapse from wind, or lining up dominoes only to have them fall halfway through your progress, a little part of you dies inside..
@@duffi5290 especially because I was playing so much at a time, I was only on my 3rd day of playing the game and I had spent so effort getting to there so when I had to reset I felt pretty burned out

Additionally, the heart granting toad/surfboard that a snifit rides on in shroom city, is unable to be obtained if you leave the room after draining the water, the board will be there, but Mario's hammer won't effect it
This doesn't seem to work for me. What exactly do you have to do for the glitch? I left the city and came back but Mario's Hammer still worked.
@@NintenUnity So, as you enter the hotel for the first time, do basically everything except get the surfboard toad. Leave the room/progress in the game's plot, come back, intangible toad. I wish I could be more specific, but it seems like other people, (board discussion on gamefaqs.com), have run into the same glitch. I got a bit into the purple streamer area before I noticed anything was off, but I don't really want to advance the plot anymore until this gets patched.
@@samuelmitschele-dauenhauer2984 Thank you, it worked now. Considering we already have two glitches that prevent you from completing the game that both involve leaving an area at an unexpected time, there are probably much more glitches like these in the game...

@@NintenUnity This one doesn't prevent you from completing the game. It prevents you from getting 100%.
This seems like a bug that's very easy to get, but can easily be missed if testers are doing longplays of the game instead of playing with frequent pauses between gameplay sessions. It's absolutely reasonable for a kid who's playing the game to make it to the point where they can get VIP access and then close the game after seeing the save screen appear in the loading zone, only for them to forget what they were doing the next time they open up the game and go to the receptionist to try to find out. The mistake in game testers here comes from the fact that they would keep playing instead of going off to do other things between playtest sessions. I would say this is probably a problem that came from Nintendo's side, as they failed to factor how actual players would play the game as opposed to people whose job it is to play through the game.
More so they didn't test it a lot more thorough. It's an easy bug to reproduce, the fact that it's way to easy to reproduce means they didn't check different scenarios and instances.

Beta testers aren't supposed to play through the game as intended. They are supposed to deliberately look for ways to break the game. That includes things like this, sequence breaks, duplication glitches, stuff like that.

Honestly, respect for this for going out of their way to delete an entire save file just to show other people this glitch. Now others won't lose all of their progress!

I seriously wish I had known about this since this recently happened to me. I've never hit a game breaking bug in all my years of game, so man was I pissed off. I was just lucky I was home alone when this happened since I let out one hell of an F bomb when this happened.
Shiii... man that sucks! I'm sorry that happened. I have already finished the game, and now attempting to 100% but once I go back to the spa, I will absolutely not talk to that Toad again! I'm scared lol

We haven't had a game breaking bug since the first paper mario game for the N64 where you max out at level 27 and level up again and have to delete your save file and restart the game from the beginning since you're stuck on the level up screen and can't choose to upgrade HP, FP, and BP anymore and you have to to continue the game. Luckily that bug is extremely avoidable since even with all those extra fights you'd end the game on average at level 25 or 26.

The worst part is if you do this, you would need to either: Delete your save and start from scratch. Or, worst of all, delete your account and start anew.
PS: Don't worry about this if you beat the game or the Chapter 5 Boss. It won't be possible by then. The Toad won't be able to check your Pass since you beat that chapter. Thus making the softlock impossible during Chapter 6 or in the post-game.
Also, if you want to experiment with this, DO NOT USE YOUR MAIN ACCOUNT! Or you will regret it.
Yelaine Gamon The problem is, if you want to experiment if this glitch works and you don’t want to use your main account, this area is near the end of the game.
It doesn't really matter what account you use for the game. You can create multiple profiles and start new games with them if needed. You can also delete the glitched save by going into system settings.

lol! That moment when Mario realizes that Olivia is actually not much different from her brother. Just has different views on how to go about the same kind of things. What a plot twist that would be if it turned out that Olivia actually wanted all the power and glory for herself! Poor little Mario would freak out!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, though, what do you mean with "if you save now, you have to delete your file" if the game auto-saved the moment you stepped out of the Spring of Rainbows?
I think you can leave the cave and be fine, it's only until you talk to the receptionist again that you become softlocked.
If you save after doing the glitch you're softlocked

No. It's trash, and so long as Paper Mario continues to go down the Sticker Star path, it'll be trash to. No RPG (don't even try to say this isn't an RPG what with Nintendo shoving in a trash ass RPG battle system into modern PM) whose battle system incentivizes NOT battling and has a bunch of bland, generic NPCs can be considered good.

That actually happened to me Sunday, and I was so frustrated that it happened. Had to reset my file, sadly. I just finished clearing the final streamer on my new save without repeating the same mistake.

Holy crap, can we take a moment to how cool the environment looks? Been playing TTYD for weeks now and the game's world looks very unique. I might pick it up once they patch out the glitch.
The glitch is easily preventable, if you know how it happens.
The game looks quite nice, though whether this artstyle or the TTYD artstyle is better is debatable.

Just took the time to check out Nintendo's official page and turned out that this game breaking glitch, along with a few others, are now patched/fixed in the 5th Aug update(Ver 1.0.1) of the game :D

Good thing that when I got this glitch by accident, I just restarted the game and then everything was fine again. I would have lost a lot of time. It was a close call.

A neat little glitch I found, in the Earth Vullemental Temple find a koopa and aling on shell on the closet ring to Mario and another on the farthest to him, then jump on that row and if you press A before bouncing on the last koopa you will jump in the air

I'm having a problem where I rescued all the toads from the great sea, including all the islands and the princess peach, but the captain of the princess peach hasn't given me the secret collectable treasure for it. He still tells me to search for more passengers even though there isn't any more to find. It's been about two days since I 100% the great sea yet he still tells me the same thing. Anyone else have this problem?

He only gives you the treasure in the bridge room.
When you talked to him after you rescued all the Toads in World 4 leave the Peach and then come back after you got a message.

What’s weird to me is that the game even erases both the stamp card and the VIP pass in the first place. The keys and head masks stay in the useful items list regardless of if they’ve been used and it seems like this glitch wouldn’t happen if the card / pass followed the same behavior.
You need to include the black shy guy from the temple of shroom! If your partner kills it then it won’t be in the origami museum! And it’s a story progression kill! And the only black shy guy in game. Happened to me.
This could be easily patched out, I'm sure.
It would be easy to make sure the glitch never happens to anyone else, although I'm not sure how they could recover the already broken save files.
@@Riku70X They could make it so that Toad asking for VIP card disappear if you have neither a stamp card nor the VIP card in your inventory and have already visited all four springs. The game keeps track of that seeing as how the Toads by the springs will tell you you can't get a second stamp.

I've read from other commenters that once you beat the chapter it's fine to go talk to the receptionist again
Ryan Schultz Can confirm. If you need to take a break from the game, use the save block nearby, but then continue to progress as normal. Once you’ve beaten the level 5 boss, even if you talk to the receptionist Toad again, he never brings up the stamp card again, and you’re free to enter the Spring of Rainbows at your leisure. Definitely need that for a trophy regarding a spot where you get to the Spring of Rainbows

I didn't know of the glitch, and when it happened it was too late. I had back tracked and saved and realized I got stuck sometime later, and searched it up only to realize I have to restart everything. Just one more world! T-T

I understand the frustration with Game-breaking glitches in this game, but it's pretty much a Paper Mario tradition to have a game-breaking glitch inside the game somewhere.
Oh wow. That is horrible. That is pretty much at the later half of the game. My heart goes out to those who unfortunately came across this glitch.
After triggering this glitch accidentally I can say I will need a solid month to recover from the pain.

It technically does have multiple files if you have multiple profiles but yeah would be nice if it were a traditional multiple save file way

Hey i got a same glitch the other day
Its start when before entering earth vollumental cave when the koopas see a shy guy try to steal the purple shell if you stomping it on overword instead of beating it from battle The shy guy were gone but the koopas will not recognize if you already beating the shy guy and if you save it it prevent to progressing any further that's it you cannot enter volummental cave even if you already collected 4 Shell's ( this also mean you have no choice but to delete the save data and start over again 😉)

@@JoshuaDItsMe It was the one where a snifit was using as a surfboard. Before the update if certain conditions were met the toad will not be able to be rescued and prevent a 100% completion of the game.

Many thanks for sharing this. I was going to start playing this game, was looking forward to it too but I guess I'll have to put it on hold until they patch this. Nothing worse than losing many hours of progress and being forced to start all over again because of it.
Well, it did say that this only happens if you leave the game while gaining entrance to that specific spa so it seems like something hard to encounter accidentally. You probably can get through the game without having to worry about this, unless your Switch loses power right when that happens, which would be really bad luck.
