Well actually I have to say Vocaloid bans have gotten to Gorillaz level. Most people know who Hatsun Miku is even if you don't listen to the music or know what she does
I've always loved Gorillaz and always thought it was crazy they weren't talked about more. You have to literally look for information on them.
I saw Gorillaz live about 3 years ago with my older brother and they’re definitely an awesome live band, plus Gorillaz is one of my favourite bands so this was definitely a cool video to watch. Great job as usual, dude

Damon Albarn knows how to classify his music style on Gorillaz, Blur and his solo work. All of whom are still active and maintain its foundation. I must say i'm impressed.

This was amazing. I grew up as a casual listener of Gorillaz but never picked up on the Blur, Ghibli, or Beatles connections/inspirations in their work. It's also fascinating because music seems to be one of the few media where artists can still protect their privacy/anonymity and 'death of the author' in their work.
I'm not sure how well known the name Russell Hobbs is outside the UK, but here, RH is a popular brand of kettle!

@@scarygarey3271 i do respect them a decent amount and i have nothing against their fans i just find them quite unoriginal, The Beatles were so great because you couldn’t define them with a single genre,
especially white album, which is probably my favourite album of their selection. But i do salute Oasis’ efforts

@@scarygarey3271 just because they love the Beatles doesn't mean they write good songs. They have about 10 good songs, the rest of theor discography is so boring, uninventive and repetitive. The Beatles, Gorillaz (and Blur) were always trying to develop and change; they never stagnated. Hence Oasis r nothing like the Beatles. They wrote good hooks occasionally; but ran out of them pretty quickly so just reused them again and again. Half of Definitely Maybe just uses riffs from T-Rex.

Just saw gorillaz perform live in Maryland and it was legit the best show I’ve seen by a mile. So much love and effort went into make it a memorable experience

@b phillip I love them as well. I'm kind of fascinated with their obvious disregard for the conventions of music theory and how it exists alongside the fact their stuff still works. It's very strange,and there's a discordant element to it,but it very clearly works and is entirely unique. Plus, My Name Is Mud is such a badass song.
Gorillas is one of my favorite bands, this is a great way to learn more about them.

They have a couple of good songs but the only one I really like is Clint Eastwood
that's one of the biggest things about gorillaz, the fact that no two songs sound alike. I think to be able to like all of their songs, you'll have to learn to appreciate all genres as well

I’m just gonna say it. I think Hewlett is the reason Gorillaz became what it is. The music is mostly bad in my opinion. A few good ones but the art has maintained high quality
I see it as the complete package. With stellar production values on both ends.
If it was just a comic or a series cartoon without the band tie in it wouldnt have had anywhere near the longevity.
That said the music is totally given way more rent space in peoples head with the ability for people to instantly recognize the style and art and that they were watching a Gorillaz video.
But cmon man their music hits have over a billion views. Compare numbers on audio only tracks to the numbers o n just the standalone shorts of the characters or the amount of hits on artwork searches. Artbook sales etc... and there is no way you can say the gorillaz would be anywhere near the draw without the music.
Just like damon was pretty sucessful with music already w blur it wouldnt be a pop culture phenom without Jamie
