sorry Cesar!!!!! my bad guys. I was looking at an old list and got majorly confused.

They’ve been around since 1997 performing professionally so they’ve had a few personnel changes. 😊

That's OK, we all have messed up on some of their names at one point. Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Cesar has a way of reaching deep down into your soul as well as Geoff did in his solo cover of Sounds Of Silence. In that one he didn't clone himself but all of his different selves are singing along with him in beautiful harmony. Please react to that one as well as his cover of Folsom Prison Blues originally by Johnny Cash. Geoff sang both of them better.

Cesar opened and ended this. He sings baritone, but took the high note when they covered Dream On. Eli, the tenor, can cover standard bass lines when Geoff is already singing something else. They all have crazy ranges.

Cesar started, J None wasn’t in this one. Eli’s name is pronounced Elly like jelly. ❤

Most of their arrangements are done by either Geoff or Layne, they usually trade off month to month. This one was arranged by Eli. He has been doing their lights and effects for several years and has worked on some of their other arrangements. The only other one he has done by himself is Eleanor Rigby.
They have several feature artists that they collaborate with on a regular basis; they are still one man short. Geoff has said in the past that it is important to arrange for the voices you have, and not the voices you wish you had. Just on that point, I think it was arranged with Anthony in mind. He has done two other full length covers with them, Golden Hour and Seven Nation Army, and several shorts.
They are amazing, my favorite acapella group for sure!!!
They have a new one dropping this Friday which is as far from this one as you can possible get.

When arranging, both Geoff and Layne have said that it’s important to arrange for the voices you have, not the ones you’d like to have. That said, even though they have a feature in mind when they arrange, the feature usually isn’t signed yet. So sometimes things have to be changed. I don’t know if you’ve reacted to Hoist the Colours yet, but that turned out a happy accident. Originally, Anthony was to have sung the high tenor part. All the other parts had been recorded when Anthony found out that he couldn’t fly in due to Covid. So at the last minute, they signed Jose Rosario. But his voice isn’t that high, so Eli had to learn and record the high tenor part, while Jose learned and recorded his part. (That’s why , even though Jose is featured, Eli got most of the attention.). We’re talking only a couple days before they were scheduled to do the video. It all came out great, and Eli got a breakout moment that he richly deserved!
The same thing happened more recently with Seven Nation Army. Anthony wasn’t supposed to be in that one, until their signed feature got stuck out of town and couldn’t get back. So Anthony stepped in at the last minute (from across the country). But wouldn’t you do that too for a chance to sing with VoicePlay?

As noted, J.None is currently in the Navy, but he returns often to join them as a guest vocalist--check out their beautiful covers of Nothing Else Matters and In The Air Tonight featuring him. Cesar has been with the group since 2021. Anthony is (recently) a frequent guest as well.

I believe that Geoff said in an interview that originally someone else was supposed to be singing the part Anthony sang and had to back out about three days before taping time. They were very lucky to have Anthony take on that role!

Sorry, that was Cesar de la Rosa that started off in this one. J.None doesn't appear in this one. Eli is short for Eliezer, a Jewish name (not Eliza but Eli-eyzer) and Eli is prounounced as ellie, to rhyme with Jelly.

  • @evalu3369

VoicePlay doesn't do solos.....they sing together and help eachother to shine.

  • @Robert.Sheard

Anthony made a cameo in Just Sing (during Covid lockdown) and also featured in Golden Hour. I think someone mentioned it but this is Cesar instead of J. None. J. None's singing with the US Navy currently but comes back regularly to feature.

This so phenomenally fantastic!! These guys can do anything and turn it into gold. Had to grab me a box of tissues for this one. Cesar killed it with his emotions and I feel he deserves a hug, Eli did amazing with this arrangement. I have no words. I mean They all put so many emotions into this song. I was crying through most of it, and I have cried everytime I watch it. It is already on my playlist! Great reaction!!

First and last solo singer was Cesar, the second singer was Anthony, followed by the beatboxer/percussionist Layne, then Geoff (Jeff) and ending with Eli (Ellie), which is short for Eliezer. Eli actually arranged this with the help of Geoff. Normally, Geoff and Layne switch off every other month.

Cesar was who started it off. J None is in the US Navy and comes when he can but it's not often. VP will say featured ... for any guest singer. Eli (rhymes with jelly) did the arranging, lighting and direction for this one.

Eli is pronounced "Elly" (like Jelly) he really doesn't use Eliezer except in the credits. The first guy is Cesar De La Rosa. (J. None is not currently in the group, just comes and features when he is on leave from the navy)

My favorite is Voice Play. This is not a jazz song & should not have been performed as such. Voice Play on the other hand sang it with all the feeling / sadness & emotion according to the lyrics .

Lauren, you have been gone WAY too long to mistake Cesar for J None. Poor Cesar gets no respect. Tsk-tsk.
