The best feature for any machine would be to have a pause switch. Maybe with less ramping upon return.

You do the best reviews of all things having to do with CPAPs. I am glad you put in a score for corporate culture. The lack of interest from many corporations in developing and maintaining a good community-business relationship worries me. I would patronize and pay even slightly higher prices if I thought a company was ethical and cared about its relationship with its customers.

Hello from Canada ! I very much appreciate your CPAP reviews ... and glad to know that others also like to look inside the machines to better understand them. I have bought both Philips DM-1 & Resmed 8, 9, 10 elite & auto ... I also use OSCAR ... am a member of the Apnea board forum etc. We all really DO need to understand our therapy and equipment better, in order to optimize therapy & health ... Nick, many people out there have other conditions which also impact their health ... (pulmonary fibrosis, hiatal hernias, GERD, bruxism etc.) ... so, that the collective health impact on their health, over and above CPAP therapy, may be far greater, and more critical. Sleep apnea is linked and related to other health conditions ( pulmonary fibrosis, GERD, lower esophagus issues, etc.) ... So, many side effects may seem puzzling if one cannot connect the dots ... Many respiratory problems are rather complicated ... We all need better information and data to understand and consequently correct our behaviour moving forward ... Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all of us ... You make a huge difference in people's lives ... Vulnerable People who do not always get accurate information or a fair deal from the product reps etc. ... Thank you

I just got my new AirSense 11 yesterday. I'd been on a wait list since December after I'd received my diagnosis. It's my first cPAP machine ever, and after seeing your review, I felt that I lucked out with a good machine. Because I did this through my health insurance, they didn't give me any choice of what machine I got. So I felt after seeing this review that I would have an easy time with this machine, and I did. My first night I was able to be compliant and use it straight through. It is a quiet machine and is easy to use, also the app synced up with no problems and tracked my results. I'm so grateful you do these reviews because it makes it so much easier to be a cPAP newbie with this information. Thanks. 🌺

Do whatever you can to make it work, because the alternative is just having your health go downhill as you age. Untreated sleep apnea is linked to so many preventable health problems. Yours may be set at a higher pressure, and maybe that's why it was easier for me? I'm not saying I love having to use a machine. I'd so much prefer not having the sleep apnea in the first place. 😉 But this machine makes it fairly easy to do. My Mom has an older ResMed machine, and I much prefer this newer model to hers.

2 weeks ago I replaced my Airsense 10 with an Airsense 11. These are what I have observed:
    1. Yes, the water tank on the 11 is WAAAY smaller than it is on the 10. I now have to refill it ever night. AND, it is less convenient to open and to fill.
    2. The Airsense 11 is reporting a MUCH higher leakage rate. That seems to be because it ALWAYS has a lot of pressure in the tube. See below!
    3. When I switched from CPAP to APAP on the 10, I found that the "Auto Off" function was "iffy". Sometimes/often, after I awoke I would remove the mask (Airfit P10 pillows) and it would just pump out a continuous low pressure stream, rather than turn off. To make it turn off, I would have to take a BIG inhale as I removed the mask.
On the 11, which is also in APAP mode, when I awake, if I remove the mask there is instantly a HUGE out-rush of air, clearly FULL VOLUME, and it then shuts off. It does not at all seem to run at a low pressure like the 10 did.
I am NOT at all happier with the 11 than I was with the 10. The ONLY thing that made Me upgrade (besides it being free after 6 years!) is that it again can/does upload/transmit data to ResMed.

Thanks for the review. I was diagnosed with severe Sleep apnea two weeks ago. I delayed having a sleep study for several years because I didn’t want to have to wear a mask to sleep. I convinced myself I probably didn’t have apnea even though I’ve not slept well for many years. Also my brother and sister use CPAP machines and my late father almost certainly had apnea. So now that I know I do have it and there is hope for me to sleep better the RT tells me this machine you reviewed is the one I should have and it backordered. Because I’m in the severe category I’ll be prioritized for the machines that do come in. He said it would likely be a month or two. Now I can’t wait to get started on it and your review was very helpful.

Great review, thanks. ResMed should consider:
    * The simple On/Off button is likely super reliable, but those of us with small pets would prefer a design that doesn’t allow our pets to randomly turn our units Off during the night or On during the day. Perhaps a two button design where both had to be pressed, or a touch panel that would allow the unit to be swiped On or Off would be much appreciated.
    * Absolutely, a more modular design, the humidifier is a high failure item, as many of us are quite aware, a swappable humidifier would be much better, a port that would allow an optional WiFi module, and so forth
    * Hopefully the units Bluetooth feature will allow wireless blood oxygen and other sensors to be integrated into the unit reporting and even therapy

Great review Nick. For me the hose fitting change to straight out and no swivel is a step backwards, the 90 degree fitting and swivel on the AirSense10 offers a lot of flexibility for positioning of the machine. I would have a sharp bend in the hose in my current machine position with a straight out hose, I think the hose may fail after time with a sharp bend right at the fitting. It may have a smaller footprint but having to have more space for the hose pointing straight out the back of the unit would be a PITA for me. Other than that 80/1OO is a good rating.

      @Kandralla Před 2 lety +12

That 90° swivel, the filter and to a lesser extent the 270° turn the air has to make in the humidifier are probably the biggest obstacles to the device maintaining pressure. When the flow rate is high (like when you're inhaling) those are going to cause a pretty substantial loss of pressure at your mask that ResMed has to compensate for by either running the turbine faster (meaning louder, and hotter) or going to a bigger turbine. My guess is that the swivel was eliminated to make it possible for them to use the smaller turbine without having to run it so fast that it makes the device scream while you're inhaling. This is also likely why the filter isn't that great (better filter = bigger pressure drop = harder working turbine).
Believe it or not, we're asking for quite a lot from a device the size of an alarm clock and in any other industry the solution would be a bigger, louder blower attached to much larger tubing; essentially, everything that makes a PAP device desirable (small, quiet, comfortable to use) is 180° in the opposite direction of what you'd do to make a device that maintains steady pressure.

Excellent review! I just upgraded from the older 10 to the new AirSense 11, and I had the S9 originally. The thing I have noticed about the 11 that I really like is how quite the 11 is compared to the 10. Maybe my hearing is getting worse. I cannot hear the 11 running. I am OK with the new touch screen, although it would be nice if they could make it bigger so that old people can see it better. It is not real easy to put the machine in warmup mode. I have to be very careful to put my finger on that line only. Overall, I am very pleased with the new 11. Now, when you start talking price, I think the whole CPAP industry is designed to rip people off. Don’t get me started on the price of prescriptions, especially name brand meds where there is no generic available. We all get ripped off royally! I finally told my doctor “NO” when the Medicare Gap hit me and they wanted $500 for 90 days of Jardiance. We have all got to start pushing back on medical cost ripoffs!

Resmed gave me the BIG $$$ run around as well when my S9 needed "attention" - so I just bought a second hand machine for $100 and swapped out the parts needed myself ( retired Marine Engineer & Mad Scientist type, here ) ... Considering the OBSCENE PROFITS that Resmed have amassed - one would have expected, perhaps naively admittedly, them to be more benevolent to their home country re pricing - but OBVIOUSLY profits mean MORE to them than integrity and / or a sense of propriety ..... Re that exact issue - I give them exactly the same degree of consideration that they give US - the Australian public, and I bought the S9 in Seppoland, as it was less than HALF the price that they were here - ( a DISGUSTING case of gouging on Resmed's part in my books !!! - VERY UN-Australian ... GGGgrrrrrr ! ) .... and I WILL more than likely do the same if and when I upgrade to the 11 as well ! ( AFTER we find the way to DISCONNECT their ability to "upgrade" - ( or to knobble ) the machine at their will ... Keep up the GREAT work son !!! XXX :)

Hey Rick, thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed it :-). I run my AirSense 11 in flight mode which disables the cellular but it's a bit annoying as every time you go to use it it then asks if you want to switch flight mode off. Anyway, i'm sure i could strip here back and find which part to unplug without to much drama haha. All the best mate. Have a great Chrissy. Nicko xxx

Took me 6 months after diagnosis to get the resmed 11. The machine is good, but my pressures are ordered by the Doctor. 4 masks in 3 months and all have leaked air when it excellent. I talked to Dr and technician. Nothing changes. I am pulling out of therapy tomorrow. Ps. I was diagnosed with 30 per hour, but I get less sleep now trying to readjust masks all night. .

Hello. I've had my Airsense 11 for 6 weeks. I love it. Hadn't slept 7 hours in years. Then the sore, dry throat started. It has taken me 3 weeks to get rid of it. Then one night I woke up to find myself trying to take deeper and deeper breathes. The power cord had failed. (I notice this was a problem with #10 in the google reviews) After some discussion with Health Complex they sent me another. Today I woke up to a similar situation. However, this time when I turn on the machine instead of reaching pressure 5 and going up to 12 if needed it will only reach 4 and stay there. They are closed today for NYE so I hope on Monday this can help. I notice that most places do not have any supplies. I'm glad everyone else is enjoying theirs. Happy New Year to you all.

New CPAP user here from NYC, and just want to thank you a ton Uncle Nicko for being SO HELPFUL. I ended up buying a ResMed AirSense 11 and am currently using an AirFit F30 mask. I am an art director, so I won't lie I am the person you're talking about here that wants a good looking machine.🤣Generally am pretty annoyed with the MyAir app, it does not update fast enough. Sometimes I have to wait an entire day to see the previous night's data, so I'll be checking out SleepHQ, as I also have an Apple Watch. Phillips sounds super sketch for encrypting their data, that's a massive red flag for me. Your data is YOUR data!

Thanks for watching my review on the new ResMed AirSense 11. I gave it a score of 80/100 which i think is very fair.
Here's a breakdown of the review scores
    1. Size & Portability - 9/10
    2. CPAP Comfort Features - 9/10
    3. User Experience - 9/10
    4. Noise - 8/10
    5. Reliability, Durability, Warranty & Repairs - 8/10
    6. Value For Money / Maintenance Costs - 7/10 (update to 8/10 - $2049AUD)
    7. Innovation / Technology - 7/10
    8. Design / Aesthetics - 8/10
    9. Data / Connectivity - 8/10
    10. Company Culture & Business Ethics - 7/10
It the best cpap i have used although very similar to their best selling AirSense 10.
If you currently have an AirSense 10 then there's probably no need to upgrade just now unless you like the sound of any of those features i mentioned. It's certainly small and lightweight which might be attractive for those frequent flyers / travellers. The touchscreen is also really nice however doesn't add much to the overall functionality of the device.
Having all the Autoset Algorithms in the one device is a great decision and if you find the pressure changes are waking you up then it's great to have the 'soft' response mode and the 'for her' algorithm to try for comfort.
I personally found the Standard algorithm with standard response was fine however i do tend to decrease the pressure range (min 5 - max 10) works fine for me as i only really need it for some intermittent snoring especially after a night on beers.
I didn't mention 'Safety'. ResMed has said the machines are safe to use and i think we have to trust them on that. Just stay away from ozone especially with the AS11 as there's a whole lot more sound abatement foam inside it.
The foam can be removed however i don't recommend it. It will be a lot noisier if you remove it compared with the AirSense 10.

Outstanding fact-based (where it can be) review, sir!! My first month with my AS11 (coming from DS1) has been phenomenal. I still have some tweaking to the settings (even more after watching to your review). I wish ResMed had an advanced mode for the MyAir data reporting system that provides the data we need and not just the pablum of "pretty" high-level scoring. I want to know what the events were not just how many. Thankfully filling the shortcomings of MyAir advanced mode, we have Oscar. I will not own a machine that keeps my data encrypted from my use which is not fair (and not HIPPA compliant). You hit all the right marks in your review and I always learn something. Please keep up the good work.

They told me the 10 was no longer available and upgraded me to the 11 and gave me an online discount to boot! This came in about a week, so no big delay problems or supply chain issues.
I really like it but having dry mouth issues which I've never had before. I upped the humidity on the heated hose so I hope that solves the problem. Thanks again!

G'Day Nick. I've been using CPAPS for 15 years plus, the last ten years with an S9. That served me well but recently I've been waking up with a really dry mouth/throat, using a nose pillow, so reckoned it was time for an upgrade. Three days ago I visited my local Resmed shop and, after some great discussion and advice, chose an Airsense S10 with the hybrid nose/mouth mask. (There was no mention of an Airsense 11, probably because there's no stock and I needed a new machine ASAP). Well, I have to say I LOVE it. First night I didn't get the settings quite right, but next two nights I had around 8 hours good sleep with smiley green faces on the report and very few apnoea episodes. I also really like the 'My Air' app that gives me a comprehensive report, syncing about half an hour after I turn the machine therapy off. I wholeheartedly agree with you on how Aussies are being ripped off pricewise. I don't appreciate what seems to be totally unjustified. Subscribed.

A statement of the *water tank capacity* was overlooked, or was done after the commercial break when I shut this off. I need more water than the Air Sense 10 offers so it runs out and gives me horrible sinus discomfort. Mostly because I sometimes sleep 9 to 10 hours so it runs out. But in winter it is even harder to avoid running out. I quickly gave up on the manual settings and let the climate control run because it is most likely to stretch the water supply the longest - it does adjust some to changing temperatures but it bottoms out trying to keep up with cold dry air.
Try this, because we are forced to do something: buy an evaporative humidifier for your bedroom. NOT an ultrasonic model because they emit a white mineral dust that will clog your machine. A steam humidifier that can run all night safely with enough tank capacity will work but after trying all 3 I prefer the evaporative one with wicks that need replacing after a while. They are the most silent and use the least power. Nothing bad happens if they run out of water. Every time my tank runs dry after a solid long night's sleep I am risking a miserable day (up to three days actually) with clogged runny nose that is identical to bad cold symptoms but NO medication on the market can treat this kind of sinus reaction. Also, use a hose insulation sleeve. I actually put one over another for max insulation with less condensation.

      @Nathriel Před 2 lety

If you use distilled water with an ultrasonic humidifier, it is not emit white flakes everywhere; I had that problem initially too. The white flakes are dissolved minerals which are present in tap water, but not distilled water. Hope this helps.

    • @popeyegordon
      @popeyegordon Před 2 lety

@@Nathriel Note that most ultrasonic humidifiers have low water sensors that turn them off when still full if you use distilled, because they depend on the conductvity of minerals in tap water. The best help for my permanent sinus issue caused by CPAP was spending $5 grand for a heat pump system in my home. It does not dry out the air like window air conditioners. Only the evaporative humidifiers that use big paper wicks and a fan to add moisture will not put stuff in the home's air.

Great review, I have been using the 10 model since they came out and think it is a great machine, although I have the motor warning coming the display, I don't like the heated tubes or ™ humidifier and a ClimateLineAir™ I bought the end cap that is a perfect solution. You can't do that with the 11 model. Bigger on off button is a great idea as the air 10 it way to small. And think a nonswivel on tube at back of the 11 is just silly.

i just switched from the DreamStation to the ResMed 11. I was hoping for a little lower decibel level and not impressed after discovering that they're using a smaller turbine. One detail that I noticed straight away was the tube quality seemed inferior to the DS (not as flexible), and with the tube attach point at the rear of the unit, I've had to position the unit with the back facing my bed and the control panel facing away from me. Would be nice if one could input a specific date and receive a filter change reminder.

Thanks for comparing the true size of the ResMed 11 to the 10. Based on ResMed’s marketing, I was misled to think it was larger, and thus might address my issues with humidification. I needed a larger tank. I live in a very dry mountain location. The humid tank is inadequate to get through the night. Thus in the early morning, I’m dealing with severe dry mouth and clogged sinuses. Further, the humid controls are a joke, IMO. They’re very insensitive, nothing corresponding to 1 to 8 setting. In theory (engineering), it’s a great idea, but it falls short in implementation.
Is it possible I have a defective machine? Here in the US, my medical equipment supplier, using Medicare insurance, is not responsive to these kind of issues.

@@justtinkering6713 Most of them do not work with distilled because they have sensors for water level that can't detect distilled. Ultrasonic turned out to be a big mistake as the white dust clogged the filter and some got past and bogged down the motor bearings. Had to open it up and blow it out. Best for me was the Honeywell evaporative humidifier for $40 at Amazon - added a timer so it runs for just part of each night until the room humidity increases. Too much humidity and all the leather and other vulnerable materials in the room will mold.

It was great having the extra space in the bag for carrying my meds. Somewhere I read that you can buy a special plate to replace the humidifier in the AirSense 11. Likely no benefit since it would not change the overall form factor by much.

..I have a question..I’ve used Fisher & Payle CPAP machines for the past 15 or so years and they are true constant pressure machines. Being on Medicare here in the states I’m eligible for a new machine every 5 yrs. RESMED is the only machine that Medicare will cover so 5 yrs ago I went with the RESMED and could never get used to the way it “breathed” with me…the pressure being lowered as I exhaled. I also found that the changing in pressure was very noisy. Even going into the clinical menu didn’t allow time me to disable the breathing sensor feature. As a result I ending up putting on the shelf where it resides to this day. I bought a Fisher Paykel machine with no help from Medicare…that was 5 years ago so I’m once again eligible for a new machine. Here’s my question…finally right? Can the air-sense 11 be set up as a true CONSTANT PRESSURE machine? If not how can they even call it a CPAP machine? It is supposedly “continuous pressure”..thanks..

I purchased the cover for my Airsense 10 so I can use it without the humidifier, and so it is protected when traveling. I will be looking to see if there is a similar option for using w/o humidifier. But frankly, I'm disappointed in this new unit. All the changes scream of cost cutting.

So. Much. Foam. From the looks of it, many times more foam than they had in the AirSense 10. Given the situation with Phillips’ products, I think ResMed owes it to the consumer to prove why they are so confident their extensive use of foam in this new device is safer than anyone else’s. This new machine appears to have just as much inside it as the DreamStation, if not more, and if I had to guess it’s probably because the smaller turbine has to run faster and produces more high-frequency noise. There are only so many ways to make this type of foam, and almost all are some type of expanded plastic or silicone material. ResMed needs to show us what they’ve done to guarantee this stuff is different.

According to a lot of people your machines start failing at 5000h (mine at 7200 when my nose started buzzing) but are supposed to last 12k hours. People are going back to their working S9's. How come they don't back the quality with a 5 year warranty in step with the insurances? I'm lucky to be able to replace my own motor and save a grand. It took me over 6 months to get - partially due to Dr. office failure to submit the order in a timely manner, and all of the recalls of other machines (you know, you've got to wait your turn). TBH, we don't really like each other very much. I am having a really hard time getting used to it. I have a very hard time using masks, due to an issue with asthma, and at times i tend to feel like this damned thing's trying to kill me via asphyxiation - breathing exclusively through my nose is a challenge, and in doing so, it feels like I'm not getting "fresh" air. I have gotten a little "panicky" at times, and have gone between intermittently breathing through my mouth and nose - especially when getting that "smothering" feeling.
