Kingdom Hearts is, without a doubt, one of the most unique gaming franchises of all time. The mix of Final Fantasy and Disney sounds so weird on paper but has managed to form an identity all its own that has stood the test of time. And with the newest mainline Kingdom Hearts game coming out soon, I figured it was time to finally give Kingdom Hearts the Brief History treatment!

I think the biggest reason that KH works is because it HAS FF and Disney, but it doesn't RELY on it. KH wants to tell its own story, its own substances, and uses FF and Disney to spice it up.

Just look at Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They weren’t able to use any Disney elements (aside from the Mickey-shaped keychain) but still managed to include so many of the elements from the series that we know and love.

Interesting that you didn't mention the 1.5+2.5 HD ReMIX for PS4 considering it's more recent and comprehensive, or *The Story So Far*, which is both 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 together to be a single disk that has all the games.
Unfortunately as someone who bought the story so far edition it's just one box with a 1.5+2.5 disk and a separate 2.8 disk

At least it's cheaper for the whole thing than buying the two compilations separately.
@@ArloMathis fair point but it's still disappointing considering it was advertised as all of it in one. Plus remember kh3 without any updates is supposed to be twice as big as all the games combined
@@maladroit5581 I dunno. I haven't heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me. Seems like a dual layer disk would be the solution.
The digital version of 1.5+2.5 on PS4 is around 50GB, a dual-layer blu-ray holds 50GB, there was never any chance of the Story So Far bundle to have everything on one disc.
Instead it's a bundle of two discs that span everything.
Nomura waited 13 years before putting out 3 just so it can connect to the Organization; Change My Mind.

It's almost here. Oh lord it coming. Great work man.
There's one solid reason why KH is so vast, so popular, and will indeed withstand the test of time: the characters. It's actually funny that Nomura states that Sora is meant to be the relatable one, cause I personally relate to Riku much more. He and Sora work very well off each other, and the vast array of other characters-Terra, Aqua, Ventus, Kairi, Axel, and Roxas....they're all unique and different. They even pass the god damn silhouette test. For the most part, they all have stunning character arcs, Riku and Axel especially, which makes for compelling story telling. I can't wait to see how the Dark Seeker Saga is resolved in KHIII.
Could we have a nobody, darkness, and hertless made from a time travelling heartless who combines with his nobody that is nobody from a heartless inserted into a vessel juxtaposed with a person to create darkness who then combines with another vessel who seperates into a heartless and a nobody who splits further into a vessel who is a nobody that separates into a nobody and a heartless who time travels back to meet a vessel with the other half being vessel whose nobody is another side of a heartless who is also a darkness of a heartless who time travels to achieve immortality?

Looking back on it, it's kind of a miracle that I happened to own each console that a Kingdom Hearts game ended up being on. I've managed to play pretty much every one of the non-remakes except the X/unchained games and 2.8. but now it's only on PS4 and XBox1. If you're not a console manufacturer like Nintendo or Sony, I don't see why you would limit your audience like that in this day and age. Since all I have nowadays is a PC and Switch, I might have to just emulate this thing, because there's basically no way I'm getting one of the other two.

Short thing: KHUX is NOT a remake of KHX. It's a sequel to that game.

@eddy If it was, then we would have seen all of the story from the original Xchi. Such as the Keyblade War actually happening, that boss fight with the Dark Chirithy, Luxu and Ava duking it out, and so on. Instead, Union Cross just assumes we already saw/know that and continues the story where Xchi left off. Its really frustrating too considering the original Xchi was NEVER released outside of Japan. This is a major reason why Union Cross is considered te most confusing KH title yet.

From what the game is designed like, Nomura seems to be unhappy with Final Fantasy 15 and put a CRAP TON of Final Fantasy Versus XIII into the game. The guys at Gigaboots, KZXcellent and Feels refer to it as "Nomura's Revenge".
Also, I bet that he won't put Noctis and co in the crew but instead characters like Lightning Farrron instead.

I remember reading somewhere, I think this was back when Dream Drop Distance was in development, that Nomura said he'd reserve anything he couldn't fit into Versus for Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts was the first game I bought for the PS2 when I was 14/15, and started my love affair with video games and with RPGs. I even still have that first KH game as my ps3 is backwards compatible.
I don't think a part of me would be the way it is, if it hadn't of been for this game coming out.

And as of October 2018, there is "Kingdom Hearts The Story So Far." A collection of EVERYTHING IN THE SERIES, mixing the 1.5 and 2.5 collection with the 2.5 final chapter Prologue collections together on one disc.
i remember going to EPCOT one year and they were basically allowing you to play Kingdom Hearts for the very first time before it even came out! I fell in love with this game! I remember getting it after it released and... omg... it took me a year to finish this game cause I suck (and still suck) at video games. I will never forget that this was the first time I played a game before anyone else. Kingdom Hearts... you are confusing as all hell... but I love you :D
