  • 1) Heater (Optional)
    Is not necessary if you live in a tropical countries.
    (I am living in Malaysia and the water temperature is around 25°-28°). If you live in a countries with four seasons, you will be needed a heater.
    2) Air pump (Optional)
    Is not necessary to have an air pump. Betta fish can survive without an air pump because they have a special respiratory organ called a labyrinth. Therefore, they just need very small amounts of oyxgen. If you are keeping betta fish with other types of fish, then you will be needed an air pump.
    3) Aquarium filter (Optional)
    I don't install a filter because I do changes the water regularly. (Twice a week, 50% of the water every time). If you install a filter, please make sure the water flow is not too strong because they like calmer waters.
    NOTE:
    Acclimate your fish before placing it into the tank.
    Bad water condition, stress or hungry will lead to Betta fish jump out from the tank.
    Healthy Fish: Swimming around.
    Unhealthy Fish: Sinking at the bottom or hiding always.

    This actually frustrates me! Don't copy this person.
    1. A betta fish needs MORE than a 5.5L tank.
    2. It needs a lid because it can, and will, jump out. - once he does that when you're not home or asleep; dead.
    3. Use a filter. Even if you clean regularly; you don't just want the fish to survive, you want the fish to enjoy his home.
    4. More plants. People talk about betta fish being able to breath air from the surface, but that should be an emergency measure when there's a lack or oxygen.
    Remember, these fish didn't choose to be your pet. You took it home. So you better make damn sure they have a paradise to live in or you shouldn't keep them.

      Betta fish are naturally very playful fish, people here saying there fish have never jumped, sorry, but your fish could be depressed or bored. Try putting a small mirror in, only for ten minutes because too long and it can stress your betta, but this will encourage him to flare and provide him with something other than swimming in circles.

    I personally try to offer my fish a good life. This means, specially with bettas, lots of real plants and some companions they don’t attack (Nerite, shrimps). They get bored easily. I would not want to spend my life in an empty prison where I would have no privacy, nor would I wish this life for someone else. Fish do have emotions, they are just more instinct-driven and their feelings are not as complex as human feelings.

A filter is not a source of air for betta fish, they have an organ that lets them breathe air and form bubble nests all a filter does is clean the water but a very disruptive flow can stress them out hence a overflow filter with a smooth and low flow is used but is not absolutely mandatory if the water changes are consistently done.

Temp maintain 25.5° and 26.5 C also use 2 in 1 room and water thermometer. Most of us don't put filter but will do water change 2 time per week. CT and HM betta every 3 days. We prepare aged water with Ketapang aka Indian almond leaves, water conditioner and aquarium salt, Stir well apply water pump to flow the aged water to break down all the tap water chemical.

They are the easiest fish to take care of. They at least need 2.5 gallon, you give them some wood and they could use it as a place to hide. Also is better to give them real plants like the anubia in the vid or the amazon swords it also works as a bed for them. You miss a lot of things, like the water cycle, the anti chlorine.

I can’t imagine the ammonia build up your getting in that thing by the end on the week. Also without a lid your betta could quite literally jump out and die. Especially with that small amount of water. Bettas naturally jump out of small crammed dirty water in nature to get to cleaner water. It will prob do that same in that tank as your literally mimicking the dry season.

      Victor YANG you need to take a chill pill and do your proper research. Bettas shouldn’t be in bowls, but having too big of a tank is unnecessary and just requires more maintenance. The recommended bare minimum is 2.5 I believe, 5 gallons is enough for the fish and easy to maintain for the owner. Adding like a 20 gallon for just one fish just adds more unnecessary work and water bills. One of the reasons people even get bettas is because they don’t require too much space and that makes it easy for maintain.

    Your tank is too small, you need more places for it to hide, a filter, or at the very least a heater, and pouring your betta is like that can damage and stress them. You need to acclimate, net and gently release

    • @swedebee9096
      @swedebee9096 Před 4 lety +3

      Most people just float the bag in the tank to equalize the temperature and then dump the fish, water and all, into their tanks. Not only is this a poor way to acclimate fish, but dumping pet store water into your tank is a bad idea. Water from the pet store can contain diseases and parasites that will be transferred to your beautiful community tank at home
      Acclimating is a slow, steady process. To begin, dip 1/2 cup of tank water from the tank and add it to the bag. Now wait 15 minutes and do it again. This slow process will allow your new pet to acclimatize to a change in pH and temperature as well as new nutrient levels, oxygen content, salinity, sounds, and lighting.
      A slow, careful acclimatization process will give the new fish the best chance for survival in your tank, although it will not protect your other fish from any diseases or parasites that the new fish may be carrying.
      Remember, the temperature is only one of the possible water quality changes when acclimating a new fish to your home aquarium. Also remember, your new fish's life is in your hands, and it depends on you to make the right decisions
      You need to equalize PH. Once the temperature and pH of the water in the bag are similar to the water in the aquarium, remove the fish bag from the tank and NET the fish out of the bag. Add the fish into the aquarium carefully, ensuring that their fins do not get caught in the net mesh. Do not pour the water from the bag into the aquarium, but discard it (or use it to water your houseplants!).

    I've been keeping fishes. Both freshwater and saltwater for decades. I have kept and bred bettas for decades too. Don't listen to these so called "experts". Most of their information are gathered from websites and other videos rather than their own experience.
    They're mostly ignorant Muricans too. Trying to teach people on how to keep and care for a fish that is not native to their country and climate. Much like their government trying to teach other countries' government on how to govern their respective countries.
    On some videos, I've even seen them going nuts over some people not putting on "heaters". When some of these videos are made in a tropical country with a tropical climate, which is the climate where bettas are from.
    They just think the world revolves around USA alone.
    Currently, I have about 15 males in individual tanks and a female sorority with a male inside in a 30 gallon. Most of my males are in planted and filtered 1.5-2 gallon tanks. A few are also in planted and filtered 5-10 gallons. I don't put heaters because I live in a tropical climate. Even the ones that are in the 1.5-2 gallons are healthy and happy, some even grew new colors on them, I have this half-moon that is originally white and blue, grew red spots and markings. This can only be achieved when the water quality is good, temperature is good with good quality food and environment. Actually, the filters are not even necessary, but you need to do water changes more frequently without filters. With filters, I only do once or twice water changes about 30-50% per week. And I feed them once every 2-3 days.
    So my point is, you're doing fine. If you're in a tropical climate, you don't need a heater. Without a filter, you need to do a water change(at least 50%) every 1 or 2 days. Other than that, you're fine. Plus, I also agree that you shouldn't put the rock there, gives less swimming space and may destroy your Betta's fins because it has sharp edges.

    so bettas thought they have a labyrinth organ, they still need to use their gills and it is bad for them if they dont. you should add floating plants to help with filtration. the heater yea that makes sense if ur house is warmer. and the tank is too small.

      A filter is nice for us so we don’t have to do water changes every day, but isn’t necessary. Bettas have an organ to help them breath surface air. They prefer a low flow.
      But we all recommend filters because most people can’t keep up with constant water changes and it can also stress the fish.

    • @edwardherrera2021
      @edwardherrera2021 Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah get yourself a good filter with a low flow and HEATER( 77°). From what I've seen filters help with something called a nitrate cycle, I think it's called? It's super long and complicated to explain and I'm barely learning this stuff too but it's one of the reason why people need to do water changes. There's some good videos on the subject. It's super important for the quality of life for a betta

    Just a question, did you cycle the filter before butting the betta fish in there because the water needs a certain amount of bacteria and ammonia in there to stock the tank.
    Other than that, nice setup :)

      @batappreciation9661 Před 4 lety +3

      How To Nature I have to respectfully disagree with you because in order to change the water enough youd have to do like 50% changes every other day and you’d have to take out the betta if the tank was too small during these changes and that’d stress the little guy out too much. Also, where did you get that care sheet?

      How To Nature I don’t think you read the right care sheet. Bettas can breathe from the surface, but the beneficial bacteria in the tank won’t oxygenated so there will be no cycle and constant ammonia spikes. Most care sheets will tell you bettas need a low flow sponge or HOB filter.

    • @deltadogs2416

      Depends where you get them. A shipped betta should only adjust to the temperatures of the tank and then go straight in and have no lights or food for 24 hours.
      A betta that you got from the store should be drip acclimated but could just be temperature adjusted as well. I think drip acclimating would be better though
