Mom ‘Shocked’ by Young Daughter's Expensive Skin Care Hobby

- At 11 years old, Olivia Kleid is obsessed with beauty products. Kleid’s mom says the teen beauty boom stems from online influencers. However, when she took her to buy skin care products, Kleid’s mom was shocked at how much things cost. Dermatologist Dr. Rose Marie Ingelton says "Glycolic acid products are wonderful, but they [teens] should be supervised by a dermatologist and generally they don't need it yet.” She suggests young girls stick with a simple cleanser, toner and a moisturizer with sunscreen.
so the mom is shocked that the daughter uses all the products she bought for her? i'm more shocked this woman lets her child use social media so freely. 😳
Right!!! My son is 12 and does not have social media and will not have any till I think he is at an appropriate age.
😅 Most and I do mean most parents let their children use social media freely. Most kids get phones they show aren't monitored? You just have people online lying that they watched their kids but none of them do
I feel like they'll sneak their way into having one.
Leave her alone let her do what tf she wants
@@JohnAnderson-hg3gfoh great there goes this one person

As every parent should, wats ur point?
You think she should because the daughter wants to... take care of her skin??? 😂
That's racist and can cause climate change.
I understand her desire but her skin is literally perfect, if this were a teenager then it would be more appropriate more I think
Yes
To be honest she looks kinda old in the face to be just a child
Its never bad to start getting something into ur daily routine even if its too early
@@monejohn9973 Cuz she's putting on a lot of makeup like adults do lol
Also I learned that using too much stuff can give you more acne😭
This makes me so gd sad. 11yr olds do NOT need the extensive, expensive skincare regimen of a 20-something influencer😭 Even those influencers don’t need all that stuff just yet…the social media obsession with anti-aging is relentless.
Completely agree! When she was spinning, the thing I could see she had some “drunk elephant” products. That brand is so expensive!
Monkey see-monkey do.
i didn’t even know what skincare was and didn’t use makeup until i was 15…these kids seriously need to get off social media, it’s ruining their self image
When I was 11, I hang out with my bestie and would play dolls with her. I’m glad I don’t have social media at age 17. I’m gonna get it when I turn 18 since I’m going to be adulting soon. I find social media for teens a waste of time. I’m glad I am raised right. I’m thanking my parents for that.
pls don't use Gods name in vain
At that age I was just playing with my mother's skincare stuff and there was no way in hell my parents would spend that much on these things 😂
Me too 😅

I’m 15 right now I will not be spending that money on that and my parents definitely won’t.

As a therapist that works in London and is 68 years old this world is becoming ruined by social media I pray for the world
The doctor is right. You don’t need anything complex till later teens once puberty kicks in and skin goes wonky
ye. I mean anti aging at 11? Is she longing for her skin when she was 5? I mean how does that make any sense
As someone who started struggling with acne at around her age, I became well aquainted with glycolic acid face wash, retinoids, and SPF from a really early age after a visit to a dermatologist. You can buy a good moisturizer at any Walgreens and the the rest at the dermatologist office. Her mom shouldn't be spending this much if her child doesn't have a skin condition. That wish list is for a +30 year old.
you started that because of acne she started that due to being a follower, thats the differece. you had a valid reason, i too had to start getting into skincare due to acne. if i didnt have acne id use the least amount of products as possible. i found out all the products i purchased did nothing to stop the breakouts and i was always finding products to solve this issue that this product caused and the next, it was endless now i get a monthly facial and i barely go into sephora. save your conins!
Same and half the reason I started my skincare journey was because my eczema was sooo bad and was terrible in the winter
She is about to be a teenager and she is probably going to face acne, something that effects self esteem so much it follows people through adulthood, and GOD FORBID she is prepared on how to deal with it and care for her skin, GOD FORBID!! Mom is SUCH a failure!!!
She shouldn't jack up her skin using retinol and acid washes, her skin is going to get dry and sensitive to the sun and she'll wrinkle prematurely!😮
She's so young. Can't imagine how much 'care' her skin needs at her age. It's more likely that she'll end up ruining her skin than enhancing it. Acne may come along and then her skincare needs will change. Hope she doesn't have any regrets.
She seems a tad obsessed with this at her age...reminds me of the folks that don't c like their looks and get plastic surgery and end up looking worse.....a la lil kim

Ridiculous. Where is Mom and Dad's appropriate guidance here? Unbelievable.

Kids shouldn't be on social media.
Maybe don’t let your kid be chronically on social media? Let her have a real hobby….
The most important part is the sunscreen. I’ve been using quality skincare since around her age (1000 is a rip-off) and I am now past 50 and am often mistaken for 30. Learning to care for skin and clean off dirt and makeup is a good habit, but should not be a hobby. Kids that age need playtime that costs nothing and allows them to explore their talents not become victims of advertising.
Well, I *hate* putting something on my skin, especially in the face, and I only use water and a mild soap and maybe 5 times a year something when I have a feeling that my face skin is really dry. That's it. I am 50 and people still think I am in my 30s...
Wow, this is so incredibly sad. She doesn't need ANY of this stuff, and when she's older, her skin is likely going to suffer in the long run. Good job parenting mom. 🤦♀️
The fact her mum is still buying her skincare is supporting her
At 4 I used to eat sand, at 7 I was wondering why the shadow was following me, at 11 was wiggling a pen fast enough to make it look bendy and wondering what caused it
ahh the innocence of young children...silly, but much more preferable than skincare 😊

it’s normal to be interested in cosmetics and beauty products at this age, but an 11 year old does NOT need this much product on their face. their faces still have baby skin, and the more retinol and other products you add will just result in damage and acne. her skin is literally flawless, she doesn’t need that harsh of a treatment on her face. her mom needs to monitor more of what she’s doing.
She is too young 😂
That's the effect of too much social media exposure to children! No need to rush into skincare or make ups. A simple cleanser, sunscreen, body lotion at most. Nothing overtop the top expensive and extensive for a kid that age. They'll come to that at the right time at the right age. There's no rush to getting there!
For teenagers It's enough to use facewash, moisturizer, sunscreen. do not use retinol&anti aging skincare!
That is a waste of product. She's too young to even need any of the things she's using.😂 This is why you should keep your kids off social media
I’m 16 and all I use is cleanser, moisturizer, lip balm/gloss, and mascara. On special occasions i’ll use some eyeshadow, but I feel like 11 is wayyyy too young to be owning things like drunk elephant!!! I only have one of each type of product and it’s more than enough to last me more than a year. That mom needs to monitor her daughter’s internet usage!
I’m 17 and just splash water on my face- and yes I’m a girl. I find skincare to be inconvenient because I don’t think my skin needs it

I'm curious if the recent social media aging panic or mania that occurred a few months ago ha any impact or the culprit on this or the Sephora matter.( looking at you tiktok) Given that the younger generation is growing up in the same unfiltered internet and social media atmosphere, we frequently overlook how impressionable they may be.
Poor kids these days, they should be having fun outside with friends instead of using skin care products everyday 😢

To be fair using moisturizer with sunscreen at an early age is always a super good idea, im only starting at 18 when i probably shouldve earlier
Ok, but the overall MOTIVE behind her behavior is what needs to be addressed. Masking her insecurity? Getting attention for the wrong reasons? Relying on something external for her sense of fulfillment?
@overkillblackjack2910 I agree, the insecurity and motive is concerning, and hope they can work on it and address it, but moisturizer and sunscreen should be a basic

When I was her age. I played with barbies and a lot of board games. And played with friends. Didn't know about skincare. And if I did, I wouldn't really care. This girl is obviously too young. Parents need to monitor her internet, her phone use, and need to take away a possible credit card she might have been using and if she's given money for chores that needs to be stopped as well.

You can find it stupid. Not everyone has the same interests and hobbys
@@buglenny how many of those people is a 11 year old girl with a passion for skincare products?
I can understand a girl her age being into beauty products--I was at that age as well. But I was only allowed to use things that were age appropriate, such as tinted lip gloss or nice shower gels (usually from The Body Shop or Bonne Bell), and my skin care routine was pretty simple and nothing over the top for a young girl. I was allowed to wear full makeup by the time I was 12 and it was brands like Cover Girl or Maybelline, not expensive, high end brands. Of course, I was at that age when the internet was new and social media wasn't a thing yet, but even so, I would use my allowance to buy beauty products or my mom would treat me to something, and I was perfectly happy with what I got.
