Something to keep in mind is gold is a soft metal, so if you do have a pure 24 Carrot gold piece, the metal is not strong nor as durable against scratches, where a gold alloy of less than 24 Carrot, which is often mixed with nickel, which is a hard metal, adds strength to the piece.
Precisely, pure 24k gold does not hold its shape, so the next best compromise is 22kts which is still near purity but may be alloyed with silver and copper to give the jewelry piece its definite sturdy shape and wearability. It has all the glitter of a pure yellow gold besides!
You will still pay the premium on 24kts per the global rate by gram of the day, but not necessarily get as much use out of it, fashion wise. It may be a better investment purpose, though.

I have several solid gold pieces but wear my gold vermeil more than anything else. You can’t tell the difference & it doesn’t tarnish with proper care. There’s 1 I’ve worn for 4 years now, day & night, still going strong.

Thanks for info. I have been debating between 2 pieces that max out my range (rn 200ish). One is silver, the other is vermein. I LOVE silver, including coins, and spiritually. But gold is #1 of course. However I was not sure if gold plated would be better than silver, I mean at least a silver piece is exactly what it is, and aside from occasional polish, lasts. But because of this video I think I will go with the vermein boxchain... it is going to be killer! I own no pure gold yet so I am excited for any level of gold in my pocket (or around my nape)

Hi - If a brand is selling 316L stainless steel 18k gold plated jewellery, what can I expect for the longevity of this piece?
Very informative thank you. Watching your video I just took my gold plated necklace I bought 2 weeks ago wore it during the day only not get water or anything on it. I notice my neck has a black line and the chain is dark lol. When I got it was super glittery and beautiful. Trash can it goes. Will never wast money on plated nor filled gold. Has to be Asian 18 or 24k is what I normally purchase so I don't have to worry about tarnish or shower with it. I only bought the plated ones for the fashion and looks.

Yeah same I’m only buying trendy pieces that are gold plated since they are cheap. I bought this cute clam shell fake Pearl necklace and an evil eye bracelet. They’re not pieces I’d wear forever. I’m going to save up to buy gold filled or solid gold jewelry one day to get timeless pieces such as small gold hoops, chain link necklace, and gold rings

What about gold plated anti-tarnish?
I do not like Yellow Gold colour at all so I usually avoid Gold but also do not like the high maintenance of Silver. How do White Gold compares to these tiers and do they still apply? Would Rhodium or Palladium be a good replacement for Silver?
Absolutely! These are white metals and have more of that almost white colour to them. I would not compare them to the yellow gold tier system as they are higher quality and more expensive. From least to most expensive it goes white gold, palladium and then platinum (a top tier metal).

16” for the herringbone! It definitely depends on the brand. None of my Mejuri pieces have tarnished yet and I’ve had some for over 3 years. I’ve never tried any pieces from m jewelers but their pieces are soo nice! 🙂

It’s super hard to find a good place! I had a line of gold filled pieces with Jomami but it’s currently on hiatus. I can’t really think of another of the top of my head but will let you know if I come across any great brands! 💛

I’m glad I could help! I definitely swim and shower in gold filled. Once in a while I do get gold vermeil wet but it’s more of a gamble. It may be fine but it could tarnish.

Does gold vermeil feel like plastic? I bought my first gold vermeil hoops on etsy and when I received them they felt like plastic. Really lightweight. The clasp is metal but the rest I'm not so sure.
Typically gold vermeil will feel a bit heavier. The fake gold hoops I’m wearing in this video are from H&M and feel light (exactly like plastic) so I know what you’re talking about!

Yes! Gold filled jewelry is almost as durable as solid gold 😊 I’ve had a bunch of my gold filled pieces for years and none have tarnished.

If you’re down to spend 200+ on a box chain, you should just shop around for a solid one. I bought a 14k 20” 1mm box for 200 a couple years ago at a small shop in SF.

It’s not advisable to get gold vermeil wet too often, although there is some variation in gold vermeil quality (for example, I do get my gold vermeil Mejuri pieces wet once in a while and they hold up). You can definitely get gold filled pieces wet!

It has a tendency to do so, but not always. It depends on the quality but you’re taking a gamble when choosing that material. Certain brands have better quality than others. I find Mejuri’s gold vermeil holds up well.
For special occasions I wear my Daniel Jewelry 14K pieces. For every day wear my Jaxxon pieces fit the bill.
Haven’t heard of these brands but excited to check them out 😊
u can get some really cheap italian made gold filled chains that last a long time, i doubt its real gold for the price but the stuff does last its strange

thanks so much for replying! I bought some pieces from Ana Louisa recently and although I do like them I was a bit disappointed by how yellow/orange the pieces were. I really dislike deep gold jewlery that almost has a hint of orange to it. It seems a lot of quality jewelry has that sort of coloring while I prefer a muted "true gold". I know it's probably hard to visualize the colors without images but I'm hoping you can describe the coloring of the Mujeri pieces. Thank you!

Most of their gold looks more muted/subtle and almost brown toned, which I like, but every once in a while you’ll get a piece that’s more on the yellow/orange side. Try looking at Mejuri’s tagged photos and find influencer photos of the pieces you want so that you can get a better idea of what you’re getting.

I was told that vermeil was the next best to gold because it's on sterling silver and the layer of gold that is applied is pretty thick!?
I just recently started to shop for gold filled and looking for the best, i bought a bracelet it lasted about 2 months before it started to loose it's color, very disappointed. Also washing my hands often so when the braclet got wet I made sure to dry it off. That being said. I inherited some gold jewelry it's not 100% gold it's not stamped 10ct 14ct 18ct 24ct. No marking at all, It's at least 60 Years old it still look good No Tarnished area's, I'm just confused you say filled gold is the next best to gold, I was also thinking like you, that's why I got the braclet. For it to start to Tarnish, Well I told myself what a waste, But then why are these really old jewelry pieces still looking good, thats when it was suggested that it might be gold vermeil!

I am allergic to goldplated silver and everything that's not solid gold. I need to invest in that because i wear it every single day and because i don't want any crazy rash on my skin. I bought 4 new pieces from the brand pesavento and ponte venchio and an occasion piece. I wear them a lot i love them so much and also in the future

Not true, not all gold plated jewlry is made of brass thats only the cheap chains you buy from etsy or china. Most companys in the USA use 925 silver or surgical steel for gold plated. It doesnt turn anything green because it has no nickle or copper. This girl doesent know what she talking about...

Not true at all, I have a lot of 925 silver, gold plated and/or gold vermeil jewlery and yes, it doesn't not turn your finger, neck, etc. green, but it does fade and the silver will start peering through if you wear it in water pretty quickly and/or if you wear it all, all the time. Gold-filled is the way to go, if you can afford it. I've never had that tarnish on me yet.
