A compilation of sound checks reveal the answer to a question you probably never bothered to ask... More behind the scenes science at www.test-tube.o...
+Felipe A. Barretto Bran is thought of as a really bland cereal (it's essentially just grain) so normally people add fruit to make it nice. So a pessimist is someone who puts bland bran flakes onto fruit (prunes in this case)
My journo school teaches us to use the same question when testing sound. It gives the subject something to actually say (rather than 'say something') and breaks the ice a bit - helps them to relax and appear more like themselves, which isn't always easy on camera.
Sincerely thank you for this video. It really shines a light on the personality of the scientists that we’ve come to know. Taking them out of their professional mindset and putting them into a somewhat more personable light really humanizes this channel. Amazing work and I’m sure I speak for most people who subscribe when I say; having little breaks of this type of content would be thoroughly enjoyable.
The diet of a scientist. 1.wakey wakey juice 2.cornflake carbs..needs the energy to make explosions and manoeuvre away swiftly. 3. Evening protein.. To recover from the daily manoeuvres and shrapnel dodging.
You guys are all missing out...I start everyday with a coffee/choc/banana protein shake. Fill blender with 1/3 strong cold coffee, splash soy vanilla milk in (maybe 3/4 cup) toss in a banana (peeled lol) then add 2 scoops of vanilla soy/whey protein powder...blend..add a half tray of ice..blend again... The whole process takes about 3 mins max!
Love it! Normal everyday chatter like this helps bring science more comfortably into the lives of non-scientists I would think...great idea to post this.
In New Zealand we don't have Weetabix, but we do have Weetbix. And i have no reason to think they're any different. To answer your questions, they are not very good on their own, but really good with fruit or yogurt or something like that
a bowl of either old fashioned raw uncooked oatmeal with rice milk and a diced apple or boiled quinoa and goji berries with rice milk. Provides long lasting energy for up to 5 hours.
CrunchyNut Cornflakes with Cornflakes and Bananas plus Branflakes, Muesli, Toast ,,,, The NEW English Brekky...lol Not forgettingToast, withTea and/or Coffee :) Great sound-checks out-takes :) :) :) Cheers, James :)
For those of us who don't have umlaut keys on our keyboards, it's "muesli". :) If you don't have umlauts, the accepted alternate spelling is to take the vowel and add an e after.
Good to see someone is like me, and can't eat breakfast. Makes me nauseous if I eat too soon after I get up. It's like my stomach is still asleep, and introducing food to it before it's awake just gets it all upset.
a warm meal? Here in Scotland, a 'traditional' breakfast - before everyone had to rush out at stupid o'clock for work- women would make, Bacon, Fried Eggs, Mushrooms, Potato Scone, Sausage, Black Pudding and Fruit Pudding (flat patties of oats and sheeps blood and suet with raisins respecitvely- look them up they are delicious) sometimes hash cakes and beans depending and of course TOAST! lol. The English breakfast is slightly different. LOVELY. especially when hungover...with IRN BRU. mmmmm
Luckily they don't say: A hot, brown mixture of dilute solution of theobromine and a few types of alkaloids, water and saturated long-chained carboxylic acids. mixed with some glucose and a white mixture of water and some unsaturated and saturated carboxylic acids while they are trying to say hot chocolate. :P
In France probably... Check out 1Veritastium's channel. He always goes to France; so maybe he'll make a video about the tomatoes, cheese and hot bread they had for breakfast.
Bran, corn flakes, a banana...no imagination! I'll have to come over there and make breakfast for you. French toast with strawberries and whipped cream, eggs, and your choice of bacon, ham, or sausage.
Mate, i'm doing a phd in theoretical physics and i still like my slice of pepperoni pizza in the morning... More to the point, do you join me in such feasts in the morning?
What did you have for breakfast?......""Crunchy nut cornflakes" "Crunchy nut cornflakes?" "I did!" "I like that;)" "Me too" 4:07 AKA Scientists flirting XD
So, guys! What do you have for breakfast? Honestly I was expecting the channel to put a pinned coment asking this question, but noooo... oh well, you've got me. A portal obsessed science-loving unicorn blind fangirl. Personally it depends what's in the supermarket. I had a muffin this morning. It was nice... hehe
3:09 "I had a bowl of rice crispies microwaved for 1 min 30." "WHAT!!" *Brain explodes*
Well, how else are the marshmallows gonna melt?
I conclude that cornflakes consumption is directly linked to being a scientist :P
"I had a bowl of rice crispies microwaved for 1:30." "What?!" I love how genuinely shocked he sounded. I was thinking the same thing.
"you know the definition of a pessimist is someone who puts bran on their prunes"
+beepybeetle that's so british I don't understand it
+Felipe A. Barretto Think of digestion and what prunes do to you as well as what bran does to you :)
+nicosmind3 What does bran do, exactly?...
Bromigo Poe Well both brand and prunes are meant to help you go to the toilet, i think. Not part of my usual conversation
+Felipe A. Barretto Bran is thought of as a really bland cereal (it's essentially just grain) so normally people add fruit to make it nice. So a pessimist is someone who puts bland bran flakes onto fruit (prunes in this case)
We'll never know what Neil eats for breakfast....
He eats nothing. He is a cyborg.
he eats *spicy* wings, apparently
Neil eats 3 sticks of enriched uranium for breakfast every morning.
@@k.c.lejeune6613 LOL. Mmn yellow cake with milk keeps you warm all day in winter
3:21 u wot m8?
"Microwaved for 1 minute 30" "...WOT" bahahaha
"Brought to you by Kellogg's" :P
Remember kids, if you want to be a scientist, eat your cornflakes! Lol!
My journo school teaches us to use the same question when testing sound. It gives the subject something to actually say (rather than 'say something') and breaks the ice a bit - helps them to relax and appear more like themselves, which isn't always easy on camera.
"Cornflakes. Packet was empty, I had to open a new packet."
"Oh, that must to be exciting!"
:)
I don't think scientists are morning people. Is it just me or does anyone else sense the grumpiness in this video?
+Jossie Mime you haha, I definitely sense the grumps
[Goes out to buy Corn Flakes]
Gavin Grant No, Bran Flakes!
+Christopher Thompson And prunes!
Nighthawke70 :D
"I had a bowl of rice crispies microwaved for 1 minute 30"
- the 4th coolest cameraman in england

1:27 - it is the way you are going to talk to me? XD
"how loud"
He sounds angru
Rice crispys microwaved for a minute 30. I want to try that now. Lol
Lesson: Chemists don't eat enough protein in the morning.
Meh, slow releasing energy in the form of complex carbohydrates is more important in the morning than protein. Save that for dinner!
The diet of a scientist.
1.wakey wakey juice
2.cornflake carbs..needs the energy to make explosions and manoeuvre away swiftly.
3. Evening protein.. To recover from the daily manoeuvres and shrapnel dodging.
Corn Flakes, the breakfast of scientists!
Mental note: If I have kids, they shall have corn flakes for breakfast...
0:42 a wild Gengar appears
"I had a weaker scientist - as usual..."
Some of the hardest questions ive heard Brady ask yet!
"The definition of a pessamist is someone who puts bran on their prunes" Brilliant
Atomic physicists eat fission chips.
Lol, the suggested things to buy at the end of the video popped up and suggested bran flakes.
@zakyb1: We've already done 400 videos across nottinghamscience, periodicvideos and sixtysymbols... I'd be impressed if you knew everyone!
3:15 What????
I love how you have Martyn trained: at 3:52 you say you're going to check the sound and he immediately starts talking about his breakfast, lol.
Fascinating! More videos like this? I'd love to hear the professors' comments on the weather.
Professor Poliakoff is sooo shy when he needs to talk about himself :)
Adorable!
Wait was that Gengar?
it was bulbasaur

lots of constipated people in england apparently, I find that rather unsurprising...
cornflakes makes you constipated?
Love it! Normal everyday chatter like this helps bring science more comfortably into the lives of non-scientists I would think...great idea to post this.
3:20 took the word right out of my mouth
"I think the English breakfast is a great invention, just not at breakfast time" Couldn't agree more.
In New Zealand we don't have Weetabix, but we do have Weetbix. And i have no reason to think they're any different. To answer your questions, they are not very good on their own, but really good with fruit or yogurt or something like that
this was 12 years ago omg im gonna need a part 2
4:20 i like how proud he looks as if he once ate 3 but now he can eat 4.
i gonna steal the question as ice breaker
I thoroughly enjoyed this
@Tentacleed Like the person said "What?" I had the same reaction
a bowl of either old fashioned raw uncooked oatmeal with rice milk and a diced apple or boiled quinoa and goji berries with rice milk. Provides long lasting energy for up to 5 hours.

'I had to open a new packet '.'That must have been exiting' hahaha
i loved the professors response 3:44 "cornflakes... -_-"
" I had a bowl of rice krispies microwaved for one minute thirty." "WOTTTTT"
0:54
I'm so glad someone else has said this
I had 3 bowls of Quisp cereal with hempmilk poured on it... and then I had a large peppery pickle for the breakfast desert...
For those of us who don't have umlaut keys on our keyboards, it's "muesli". :)
If you don't have umlauts, the accepted alternate spelling is to take the vowel and add an e after.
"Is that how loud your going to talk to me when I interview you?"
3:13
I love him... he's like "No you tell me what YOU had for breakfast"
This was hilarious! Good job guys.
0:42 Dr Anne Green. I don't think I've ever seen her without purple somewhere on her. Hence the Gengar, lol.
2.13 Reminds me of Jemaine from flight of the conchords.
Almost half a decade on and i'm still watching this
Good to see someone is like me, and can't eat breakfast. Makes me nauseous if I eat too soon after I get up. It's like my stomach is still asleep, and introducing food to it before it's awake just gets it all upset.

Corn flakes?!
What's wrong with cornflakes? I had cornflakes this morning
It's apparently what scientists eat for breakfast.
@@N0M4dIC1RSTyea cornflakes are boring and flavourless just like scientists
3:53 Never realized before how much Poliakoff sounds like Salad Fingers.
"I had to open a new packet"
"Oh that must have been exciting!"
Funny stuff! :)
That Gengar at 0:43 was so random I did not know how to react.
In France probably... Check out 1Veritastium's channel. He always goes to France; so maybe he'll make a video about the tomatoes, cheese and hot bread they had for breakfast.
Check the breakfast hours of any major restaurant and I assume 6-11 is breakfast hours.
Great video man! I like it a lot... make more "behind the scenes" stuff :)
I can see the ad-copy now, "4 out of 5 scientists recommend 'X' for people that eat breakfast" LOL
You know that someone knows about what he's talking about when he looks like 0:33, those are the teachers I trust the most. :D
@ 2:13 it is McLovin
Hmmm... At first i just understood "Brown Flakes", but after i found the definition on urban dictionary "branflakes" makes much more sense...
Nice Bismuth sample at 4:05.
I am sure at least one of them had double chocolate muffin, raspberry jam donut and caramel frappuccino, but said he had cornflakes.
Bran, corn flakes, a banana...no imagination! I'll have to come over there and make breakfast for you. French toast with strawberries and whipped cream, eggs, and your choice of bacon, ham, or sausage.
Glad to see everyone is staying regular :)
What is she holding at 4:02? Looks so cool:)
A large crystal of the element Bismuth.
zeyogoat Thanks a lot!
Bismuth
At first I thought Brady said at 1:31 "Is that how you're going to fucking talk to me when I'm interviewing?"
Mate, i'm doing a phd in theoretical physics and i still like my slice of pepperoni pizza in the morning... More to the point, do you join me in such feasts in the morning?
6.023 power 24 circular rings converges to flakes and cereal.
They'd probably regret asking me this question
Got to love how he tricked them into talking about what they had for breakfast for a video!
0:43 GENGAR!!! Nottingham has pokemon plush toys?
Gengar is the purple pokemon
Professor Bowley pulled a Lil Jon at 3:20 heh!
What did you have for breakfast?......""Crunchy nut cornflakes" "Crunchy nut cornflakes?" "I did!" "I like that;)" "Me too"
4:07
AKA Scientists flirting XD
have you ever heard of eggs, pancakes, waffles, french toast, nuked leftover pizza etc. ?
Its not a trick. It's supposed to check the sound levels and he just compiled all of them into a video.
Crunch nut cornflakes are where it’s at!
Yes.. You are unique..
German toast is bread soaked in egg+milk+sugar, than fried.
are the rice crispies in milk when you microwave them?
1:33 HELLOO SCIENCE!
2:18 steven hawking childhood no hard feelings lol
Where can we buy that periodic table cup from?
So, guys! What do you have for breakfast? Honestly I was expecting the channel to put a pinned coment asking this question, but noooo... oh well, you've got me. A portal obsessed science-loving unicorn blind fangirl. Personally it depends what's in the supermarket. I had a muffin this morning. It was nice... hehe
Ooh, 0:44 looks like Gengar.
Ok, just checked and realised that this is an old video, lol. Still, James Grime?
Nahh, scientists are so badass they eat gamma rays for breakfast
