Long Run Review: Hoka Skyward X

  • The Hoka Skyward X is a max cushioned training shoe designed to blend comfort and speed. With nearly 50mm of foam in the heel, it has more protection and bounce underfoot than almost any other shoe on the market, but that also comes with a weight and price premium ($225, 333g/11.8oz in 10.5 US mens). In this video, I give an overview of the shoe, take the Skyward X for a long run and let you know how it compares to other options on the market.

    Another great review thank you, I think I need to buy Hoka skyward x myself

    Mine are arriving tomorrow £153.00 including delivery with a discount here in the UK So had to get some for my long runs. I’m pleased you mention they feel ok at a faster pace as I always like to do some efforts at the end of my long runs 👍🏻 I like the feeling of the Prime X1 but I don’t dare use them much because of the poor stability

    • @supwell
      @supwell  Před 4 měsíci +1

      amazing! let me know how you get on with them. if you're looking for stability plus some faster capability for longer runs i think you'll love them. the bounce off the forefoot has been great for me when running fast

    I loved the SC Trainer v1 and can’t find any more pairs of them in my size. Might get these after watching your review and several others! I’m a slower runner so comfort for time on feet is priority.

      I am also in this predicament…sc v1 was perfect for easy miles and sc v2 just isn’t for me

      @@erindwyer5567 yea SCT v2 was a squashy soft that didn’t give me much bounce. Gets tiring for my long runs having to “dig myself out” of the foam. If I wanted a soft, relaxed shoe, I would’ve just gotten the 1080v13.

    Bro thanks so much for answering my question from your previous Vid at the end of this one. Absolute OG! Thanks!!
    As much as i want the cielo, i tend to pronate ever so slightly at my ankle/midfoot so feel the skyward would be my "safer" option. If only i could win the lottery here in New Zealand, both shoes are above $420 nzd!!

    • @supwell
      @supwell  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Of course! I think that's the right call if you overpronate - both are great but the Skyward X definitely has more stability in the heel

  • @tuckertech
    @tuckertech Před 4 měsíci +1

    Let’s go! I’m up late trying to decide on the best shoe for a 5k. I need stability and the super light shoes are not stable lol.

    Americans are lucky with their shoe prices. The SC Trainer v2 costs 230 euro here. The superblast is the cheapest at 220, the On, Hoka and New Balance are all around 230 (with the SC Trainer v2 being the most expensive), and the Endorphin Pro is 250. Being a huge fan the first SC Trainer (but I like the v2 a lot too), I can see myself trying the Skyward X if it comes down to half the price.

      The prices of thoses super trainers are ridiculous. I have been luckyand got myself a pair of SC Trainer V2 for 180€. I love this shoe for long runs.

      Just wait until something goes on sale. That's what I do and stock up on my favorite models from the previous year once the end of the year hits and Black Friday sales come! There's also some good websites that'll offer promotions for specific brands so try and keep an eye out for those! I agree though, shoe prices are outrageous now.

    • @theghostofpcs2391
      @theghostofpcs2391 Před 4 měsíci

      @@samkovalchik5655 That's what I usually do. I only recently broke my 'never pay full price for a running shoe' motto, when I wanted the SC Trainer v2, which has a pretty low availability here already, and only seems to go on sale when a colour is being phased out (couldn't find any in my size). I'm in the Netherlands, and my pair came all the way from Denmark! It seems New Balance is doing this on purpose, because I have zero trouble getting multiple pairs of the More v4.

    I'd like to see a comparison to the Kinvara Pro. It's nearly $50 less and 2 ounces lighter. Makes the Hoka seem like a hard sell.

    How's the fit of the cloudmonster hyper compared to the Skyward X? Really intrigued by the both of them, especially the oncloudmoster hyper with that peba foam in the forefoot! My foot is on the wider side so never really got to try many of the super trainers until these two came up and seemed more accommodating (Aside from the SC trainer V2).

    'Morning, Yowana! I'm one of the few who can run on grass and dirt (though not singletrack!) in the SC Trainer. My only issue with it is the stiffness (I have high, rigid arches). How does the Skyward compare in these two regards?

    What kind of durability do you/people get out of the NB SC Trainer V2? I know you retire most of your shoes at ~300 mi, but its hard for me to pivot away from Superblast which are so consistent even at closing on 450 mi (and I've heard up some people take then up to over 600 mi)

    • @supwell
      @supwell  Před 2 měsíci +1

      For walking only I'd suggest either the Clifton or bondi (a little more cushioned) over this. Both of those shoes are designed more for walking and casual use - this one is really a long distance running shoe

  • @Nivek_Fartswamy
    @Nivek_Fartswamy Před 3 měsíci

    Professional reviewers are shilling hard for the Skyward. My concern is that its a Hoka and every attempt from Hoka to make a credible super shoe has failed. The Skyward takes inspiration from the Prime X and SC Trainer but its hampered by a midsole design that places softer EVA below denser PEBA. Same approach as the Mach X and I did not like the ride of that shoe. The EVA below the plate would soften during each run. As a result the responsiveness and rebound from the PEBA above the plate was negated. The Prime X is 100% TPE and the SC Trainer V1 has the best rocker of any shoe in recent years. The Skyward is like a mix of these qualities but of a diminahed degree.

      @supwell  Před 3 měsíci +1

      yeah i don't get paid by anyone to review shoes, fortunately or unfortunately 😂 but i can confirm i've been enjoying the skyward x! did another double run day in it today. was bouncy and fun throughout the 20 miel day while still being super stable. they did a great job with the midsole setup
