Days Gone is a fantastic, tense experience if you play it on the higher difficulties. Having to sneak around, using hit and run tactics and trying to save on gas and ammo had me on edge the whole time, and the game expands the amount of freakers per area. This essentially makes any township a horde spawn, and it's absolutely horrifying having to take out the nests. It also removes the superpower abilities, making you use your eyes and ears for everything. I highly recommend playing it like that for your first playthrough. It's also secretly a Syphon Filter game, so 😎👉👉

@@larifax-8107 Don't get me wrong, there are technically better games, heck, more competent games out there. Days Gone is fairly unique with what it makes of the more tropey elements of modern survival game design. Sure, it might play like a slightly faster paced Last of Us sometimes, but a good majority of the game is strategizing when and where you're going to drive to not end up attracting a horde and running out of gas. You will never know true, pants crapping terror until you have a good hundred freakers chasing you a few metres out, and after you've run out of gas, have to slowly kick your bike up a hill so you can use gravity to keep yourself alive for just a bit longer. I think the game would have done better as a AA, middle market indie published game rather than a big budget Sony exclusive, as the hype kinda killed any chance of its seemingly intended niche demographic.

i played this on pc, fucking loved it so much, not a masterpiece but it also doesnt stumble or slip anywhere either, there are plenty of things that could be polished or improved but nothing actually wrong with it at all, great soundtrack, some great mechanics, believable characters and a fun open world, id personally slap this with an 8.5, pretty much all the jank is gone from the pc release apart from the odd animation desync here and there but that shit has been prevalent in these sorts of games since arkham asylum first dropped

I have a weird relationship with Days Gone. I love the game, with all it's flaws, and truly think it deserves a sequel.
I got it free with PS Plus, and played it non-stop for 2/3 weeks, as did all my friends. We spent hours talking about the story, our favorite moments, and our favorite characters (Boozer. No other answer.)
It has its bugs, but it's still insane to fight huge hordes while biking around. Sam Witwer's performance is great, and I wish we got some more closure on his and Sarah's story.
The memories I have with this game are mostly because of the story, and the times my friends all played in the party together.

I played through the game when it came on PC and I felt like it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. All the bugs that every other reviewer had talked about in their videos were ironed out, the characters felt well written and the Deacon himself felt like a very compelling character and his relationship with Boozer felt genuine and authentic.
I did almost all the sidequests and while they were hardly anything to write home about, it was a good time for me since I enjoyed the core gameplay loop well enough. Sucks that it isn't going to get a sequel but I feel like this game will be appreciated much more in retrospect.

I really enjoyed my time with Day's Gone. I played it after most of the bugs were patched and fixed so those didn't effect my experience much. Just cruising around blasting freakers and exploring the world kept me coming back for more. The story and characters were decent but nothing new or groundbreaking. The graphics and sound are great I have zero complaints on those. The combat was a ton of fun. I played the game on hard and felt the difficulty was just right. It kept things tense with regular humans being able to take my health down fairly quick and the hordes were a total rush to fight as I had to plan things out and play wisely to survive them. To me Day's Gone is a gem in the rough and I hope it eventually gets a sequel with a bit more polish and some fresh ideas.

Currently i'm replaying this game on the highest difficulty, that being Survival II which removes the HUD, you can only see the minimap when using Survivor Sense, and enemies do a lot of damage. So far it's been a blast. the gameplay suits it to some degree. the game itself is incredibly flawed but it isn't flawed enough to be considered bad or mediocre. it's okay and does enough to keep itself interesting but not for long. the characters are alright but the story they're stuck in has many issues that should've been ironed out or left on the cutting room floor. Days Gone is the sort of game that you'd play just to pass the time here and there because trying to take huge chunks out of it at once can get tiring.

I ain't gonna lie, one of the main reasons I finished this game was because of how great the gun sounds are.
You're absolutely right about how the director told Sam to go a little too far with being unhinged. It's some of the corniest "try to sound like a hardass" dialogue I've ever heard. It sounds like a mix between him getting off and trying to sound tough I've ever heard, and it's so bad it's funny. The game would've been so much better if Deacon's wife, Sarah, was actually dead, and he had to learn to let go. The scene at the church was probably the best piece of the narrative, and they threw it all away for a "everyone wins" ending. And as milquetoast as the story is, I kinda liked how feel good it was. It was a nice break from all of Sony's somber, stoic 3rd person action games they've been churning out.

Also fighting the first mandatory horde was a real shock, because they just throw you into water and expect you to swim. I think horde fights would be mutch better if we had them from begining and they would just escalate.

Honestly, despite the issues I really enjoyed Days Gone, though that was mainly the bike physics and gameplay carrying it for me personally, that and Sam Witwer's performance, the story is.....eh.....it works, but it's not exactly new, still knocks it out of the park imo to tell the story it wants to tell

Is the constant showing of the Syphon Filter livery a hint at a possible Syphon Filter retrospective video in the future? I’d love to see a properly made retrospective for a childhood favorite of mine be done by one of my most favorite CZcamsrs.

I had no idea that they were actually going to introduce hordes properly in the game at all. I ran into them dynamically and I actually managed to clear out most of them in the first two zones without any tutorial or help on how to beat them and now I've got the upgraded mp7 and autoshotgun and they have better stats than almost anything else I've found in game. I got this game for $16.99 and I think that is the proper price to pay for an experience like this. There is a ton of fun to be had with this game but it is also repetitive bitch work

I only have a PC so when this game cameout my experience with the technical problem you describe are nowhere to be seen, no pop-ups/loading stutters/etc it's seems to be a problem of the PS4 version and they will never upgrade it to PS5.
I agree with a lot of your points but I have to point out that the cover system is really good, it has that dynamic thing where if you think you can climb that you probably can which adds a ton of ways to approach fights. The gameplay felt sooo good that I did stick with it for longer that I did with Horizon (also on PC) where everything felt really floaty.

I enjoyed this game alot tbh, did all nero collectibles, all ambushes, all historic landmarks, i hated the hordes so much tbh, when I finished the game, and did the rest, there was only a couple infestation left in the last area of the game and all the hordes all over the world, having to collect supplies to build stuff to fight the hordes was the last thing on my mind, loved the experience of doing as much as I could In the game, but stuff like hordes I couldn't be bothered to do at all. If there's anyone else who agrees pls let me know

All of the criticisms are valid (except I'm not seeing any bugs now or performance issues on a PS4 Pro). But they add up to a solid 8 or even 9 out of 10 because it really feels like you are living, surviving and scavenging in its world in a way that just isn't true for games such as Red Dead or Tsushima. Those are much more story- and mission-orientated whereas Days Gone really nails the open world feel.

I think the story is the best part of days gone. Combat is great. Starts of tense and you really feel like you improve. The motorcycle is great. You feel the improvement when upgrading. The world is beautiful using Oregon was a great idea. Using real landmarks like crater lake. The stealth is way to easy. The side missions ok some better then others. The problem with 6.5/10 is people looked at it and said I’ll just skip it must be bad. It’s supposed to be AAA game. I probably would have given a 7/7.5?

After thinking about it more I disagree with saying Jessies reveal has no weight. I think we mostly get into this game expecting a modern, grounded story, but Days Gone follows an older fashioned "everything is connected" type story. Jessie being the rippers leader has weight in the fact that its one more shitty thing Deek can blame himself for. The guy they burned in the past is the one that has now turned that torment and killed hundreds of survivors and also took boozers arm, which deacon had already blamed himself for. Though I understand why people would still rather they not have it

It’s just the way the game was structured. Had it been tightened up and the story been better it would of been a masterpiece. Super fun on highest difficulty. Beautiful game using ur4 . The bike feels absolutely awesome. Definitely should try . Once the game opens up very fun definitely 8 out of 10

  • @crusaderman4043

Days Gone could really improve with a sequel. It definitely deserves one more than Horizon, in my opinion. The world and mechanics have so much potential, and Deek is genuinely an interesting as fuck character that has often over-exaggerated line delivery. All of this can be reconciled with the experience and feedback gained over the development cycle.
I really hope for a sequel at some point.

I played it well after launch after it was in the ps+ collection, on the outside it looks like a good game for someone like me. Cool zombies, big hordes, the voice actor for darth maul playing the main character and a pretty cool bike to traverse a open world. All seemed good for maybe the first few hour but it just became a bit boring, voice acting was a bit dull, story was boring, gameplay felt weak and buggy and there was just a ton of small details missing that kinda lessened the experience for me. Still a cool game I guess but I didn’t understand why anyone would really like it, looking forward to watching this one Craig
