    Something the video doesn’t mention, the fuel docks were refilling the boats free of charge. They were later reimbursed for the amount of fuel they gave away by the government.

    I highly suggest looking into the documentaries about Gander Newfoundland’s role in 911. It’s a crazy story about how over 300 planes were diverted to a small Canadian town on 9/11 after the airspace closed and doubled the population of the small town. And how the town came together to help the stranded airline passengers. It’s an incredible story there’s also a Broadway play about it.

    You should watch a video, I think it’s called the rescue dogs of 9/11. It’s about dogs trying to find living survivors in the rubble. Very good video. Broke my heart. But thank you for doing this one.

    • @aletmartins6940
      @aletmartins6940 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Amazing animals. I remember the handlers would have volunteers hide in the rubble so the dogs could find them. They (dogs) were showing signs of depression as they worked but had no success finding survivors- brilliant plan by the dog handlers.

    There is another event from 9/11 that many people forget. That day, there were 4 planes hijacked. 3 of them hit their targets. The 4th one, United Airlines Flight 93 went down in a field in Pennsylvania. The passengers and crew found out what was going on in NYC, and knowing they were not going to survive anyway, they fought back and forced the plane to go down in a field. They sacrificed themselves to save strangers on the ground. Its believed their plane was to hit DC. Please react to a movie called United 93. Its very hard and heavy, but its a true story of good winning over evil. The passengers and crew of United 93 had no idea Sept 11 2001 was they day they would become Legends.

    • @Bayougirl78
      @Bayougirl78 Před 3 měsíci +1

      I remember that. The 4th plane. And yes, it's been suggested that it was heading for DC, either the White House or The Capitol Building.

    • @victorramsey5575
      @victorramsey5575 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@Bayougirl78 In the movie they show the terrorist pilot put a picture of The Capitol Building on the control wheel. Maybe they found remants of that picture, or the cockpit voice recordings were recovered and they learned that way. United 93 hits me hard, a female passenger went to the same Jr High School that I did. Different years, but still. Kinda hits home.

      This story is incredibly uplifting and I have watched it many times but that one comparison is not really fair. The trip from England to France takes hours while the Hudson takes only 15 minutes or so.

      It took 9 days at Dunkirk because of having to cross several miles of open water between England and France. In New York it was just a short distance from Manhattan to the other side. Not really a fair comparison because of the distance

    I have seen this documentary before, but your video has brought me back to that Tues morning. I worked on Wall St and was a block and a half away when the second plane hit. I lost family and friends that day, all first responders. Volunteered with the Red Cross at the site until June 2002.

  • @Aussieloz1
    @Aussieloz1 Před 2 měsíci

    9/11 was an attack that involved 4 hijacked planes. The first 2 went into the 2 world trade towers, the 3rd hit one side of the pentagon and the 4th, crashed after the passengers, having discovered what was happening elsewhere, attacked the hijackers. Both towers collapsed in less than 2 hours, which also killed 343 first responders. There was so much dust following the collapse, a mixture of concrete, asbestos, jet fuel etc, that there are many people to this day who are suffering and dying as a result of breathing issues and cancer, there was also only 20 people pulled out of the rubble alive and a significant number who’s bodies could not be recovered due to the sheer weight and size of the rubble which obliterated the remains. This was a complete tragedy on its own. But the pursuit of Osama Bin Laden also resulted in a large number of troops in the Middle East, where even more innocent people caught in the middle were killed.

    I hadn't thought much about helping others being a particularly American attribute, but now seeing videos from around the world, I'm surprised how people don't help strangers in a lot of places. They'll video someone stumbling drunk into traffic on a busy street, but not many help them.

    There's another uplifting story of 9/11. It's about how Canada, most notably the town of Gander Newfoundland (Population 10,000) would take in 7,000 stranded passengers when the US closed it's airspace. In all Canada would take in nearly 35,000 passengers from 239 planes. This particular story was even turned into a Tony Award winning musical called "Come From Away!" czcams.com/video/0qDdgjgC_ig/video.html
