My Easy Band Tying Jig & How I Tie Pouches To Make Them Last Longer

  • Saw an early video of Keith Dighton a couple of years ago where he took a pair of clamps connected with paracord and tied pouches with it between his knees. I applied it to my hard case so I could easily bring all my band tying stuff to the living room or dinner table, backyard, starbucks, while in the can, etc... to make band sets wherever I wanted as well as keeping my latex fresh and carrying my slingshot too. Also, I learned to tie band sets that wouldn't tear so easily at the pouch, and thereby lasting longer than how I used to tie them, from Wayne Martin of Catty Shack. Hope it helps some shooters out there!

      😂 I agree! For me, it's satisfying to just watch and see what works for others and I can watch hours of band tying even before I'm about to sleep. Hahahaha.

    Thank you for this idea! I’ve had all of my band/pouches/misc in a trapper keeper, but was never happy with it. This is perfect.

      Thanks brother! Glad it helps. I can keep everything fresh and protected when I go out camping or when I'm at home watching TV at the dinner table (so i can still socialize with people at home and not creep off into my cave) hahahaha 😂
      PS - Trapper Keeper? 80s kids rule!! 🤘😝

      You're welcome Darrell! I'd have to give credit to Wayne Martin of CattyShack for demonstrating how its done. So far my bands have been lasting longer and have never broken at the pouch. Its usually in the middle or I get a pinhole. Glad you liked it!😁👍

      Hey, thanks Terry! Ive changed my band tying a bit moving the ties closer to the pouch because I noticed a bit of slippage with newer latex. Glad it helped inspire ideas!

      Oh man, It's definitely gotten to another level as i still remember the ol' constrictor knot (I still have some butcher's twine lying around here). It's amazing how guys find new ways to turn it into a science. Hahaha. This crystal string and amber belt stuff sure are game changers. Cheers from across the pond brother! Hope all is well! 😄

    Now thats a excellant video on showing us in slow motion how to do it and i appreciate it very much because everyone that does videos dont show it in deph the way you just did, thank you very much buddy. Now is that band you just did for OTT.

      Hey John, wow, thank you for the kind comment. I appreciate it! Although I tie my bands differently nowadays with more accessible materials, I still sometimes tie it with Amberbelt especially for lighter ammo. Yes, this 'Tri Fold' can be used for both OTT and TTF. I tie my bands in this fashion, in batches, because Ive got quite a few TTF frames that I shoot every so often. Makes it easier than tying dedicated OTT (bi fold) bands. Hope that helps! Cheers brother 😁

    As a new slingshot enthusiast, I haven't started tying pouches yet, but I don't think it will be long until I start. I've seen the 2 clamps with a string technique before, but using your gear box as the workstation is a new twist that I like a lot. I just started my own CZcams channel, and I hope I can share useful tips like this with my viewers. Keep up the good work!

    Good stuff! I have grown to love the constrictor knot as used by catapult carnage. I use embroidery thread (lots of fun color options haha) and have found the bands to last ages longer than the simple shot band sets that come with a new frame. I really need to get out and shoot some more.

    • @threestarsandasling
      @threestarsandasling  Před rokem

      Oooh.. I've never used embroidery thread. It was either paracord strands (which were too slippery and came undone) or butcher's twine (which worked better). I'll have to try your method! It's fiddly using amber belt and Im willing to try a simpler alternative. Thank you! Cheers brother!

      @@threestarsandasling When I started, I was trying to use slivers of band material and it looked like crap, then I tried amberbelt and it was just too finicky for me. The embroidery thread has been the absolute easiest and with the right amount of tension, those knots are not gonna come loose (at least I haven't had one come loose in my 1.5 years of using the method).

    Yes i see what you mean when wrapping and tying my question is the piece you are wrapping around pouches am i wrong by saying that if you use another clamp to assist for one end of the tying tape this way you'll have two hands wrapping then when finished you can trim the ends off the wrap? or Can you use a light fishing line for tying the bands.

    • @threestarsandasling
      @threestarsandasling  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi! Great question there; Yes, you could probably use a third clamp to hold one end as you tie while wrapping the other end. I havent really tried it, but I think its possible. As for the 2nd question; you could probably use fishing line, but Im wary it might not hold the latex together and cause slippage. Amber Belt is less than $2 a roll, so its pretty affordable. Although, you can use cotton string or mason line tied in a constrictor knot in a pinch. Cheers!
