If you notice something, that a lot of people who are in the lower divisions claim it "dosent work" or have "delay" make excuses, what did you think I used to play on? People dont even know what connection I had, this is the problem, people just make excuses without trying to improve their gameplay. Don't be one of the guys that makes excuses, and doseent try to improve, otherwise you will never get better, its going nothing to do with delay even this footage as you are running IN FRONT and standing your ground. Just shows how much excuses people make.

Firstly, I am not making an excuse and I am definitely trying to improve in spite of the lag. I am just saying that this is what most of us are dealing with so its hard to implement perfectly. For me, I started FIFA again this November and scraped elite div toward end of season from div 10. I watched your defending vids and it improved my game a lot. However, once I got to elite div I was getting [insert expletive] by Mbappe, Ginola etc. with skill moves and pace abuse and just standing still didnt seem to work + the horrific lag, so its just infuriating.
My best fut champs is rank 3. I started using second man press and team press and its been helping me. My question is, you've said in your vids that all you need is this manual run and jockey and nothing else, but I feel like I need to start using second man press more in elite div to get higher skill rating. I got to 540 skill rating then I was getting bummed haha.
On a real tho, I actually like how fr you are. None of this mr nice guy like the other FIFA youtubers. I was just pointing out that it would be nice to play such smooth gameplay.

@@Johnny-pj8ll If it helps you and only if the basics are in check then use them its fine, a lot of people here dont know basic defending elite tier or not, and this is why I say keep it basic as possible, once you have established a good baseline then you can start implementing the teammate contain, double press, trapping, partial team press, hard slide tackle etc
I am not saying there is not lagg, but its there for everyone, you have to just deal with it, we all hate it, trust me me more than anyone else I hate it, but a lot of it is not down due to lag, its more down to ability, but even fi you are getting destroy with mbappe/ginola etc, are you defending against it properly? you cant always defend against it, but its all about timing and positioning
@@NealGuides Thanks for another reply. Yeah I know there is still room for improvement but I feel like the game is actually scripted for those two cards. The 50/50s always fall to them its seems like haha.
Have you got any tips on how to defend these lightning fast skill moves like stepover and elastico. Like I have been fine up until elite div but now that I'm in it I try holding my ground and not diving around all over the place, and wait for the perfect time to engage but it seems like sometimes these Mbappe, Ginola,Al O just fly past you lol and then they green time finish and straight in.
This is hands down the best fifa guide channel I have come across. By just using your advice, I noticed an instant improvement to my gameplay. I thank you for that. That being said, lag is a big issue for me. The best ping i get in my neighborhood is 150ms with occasional spikes to 200ms. I'm however motivated to keep improving because of you. @@Johnny-pj8llat some point you're gonna have to elevate your defending but to do that you gotta learn the basics to and tbh pace abusers are kinda easy to deal with because they only do one thing through balls and run get a fast cheap cb and youll have them in you pockets
Most problem I have is switching the players, sometimes analog switching is too inaccurate

There are times where I use the L1 button to switch characters and it changes to my CB, so I have to tap it like a scroll wheel to get it to my CM. Then there is Analog Switching, which only makes it so much worse because I end up choosing the wrong player most of the time. Even when I am pointing to the preferred player.
And, then there is inconsistency. When I shoot and it gets blocked, sometimes the loose ball will get deflected near one of my forwards/midfielders, and tapping L1 stops working. So I can’t switch to the character nearby and I ultimately get the ball stolen, by the perfectly, still functioning, players from my opponent.
I can changed players perfect with l1 but I have issue passing when I play really good players and my defending isnt best
@@lilmanop Using L2 will help a lot with attacking and passing. L2 is the button to make an outside foot. L2 + O + holding it down, is a trivela shot. L2 + X, is a backwards pass. So if a defender is rushing you from in front, and you have a defender behind you, aim toward them, L2 + X, and there should be a huge gap where you can pull out combos. If your defender is closer to your inside foot than outside foot, your defender will do a roulette in place and then pass. It helped me win more games against Legendary difficulty and I hope it helps increase your gameplay, too.
Ya I use L1 too, but mostly RStick, when cm has ball and I hit right or left and want to change to other cm, game is switching to CB. The same is on CB, changing to CM
While I appreciate the insight, but no matter how I try to hold the position in FUT champs my defenders seem to have forgotten that they are defending and the funny thing is that while I am attacking I see my Maldini is on the offensive line. This game will drive you nuts no matter how they patch it.

Nice video but what about defending againt people who keep possession? My defenders can never catch up and it feels like they have all the space. And when I try to keep possession their defenders always seem to have 99 acceleration
So obvious but tremendously helpful. I always try to stop a run by picking a CB and attacking the ball which always ends with me getting run past and my keeper falling down 😂. I was allowing 4+ goals a game in MLS CM and in my last 3 games I’ve allowed only 1 each. Thanks bro!
Still defending is extremely hard even using this tactic. This tactic doesn't seem to work when you play against world class level opponents as they attack you from every directions.

So genreally, i think the most important advice here of understanding the basics of defending before trying to figure out "what to press" is pretty important. And it's true, especially on lower level divisions. But highier experienced players require more work..
However i completely dissagree with the notion that the AI will defend for you. Or to be more clear, it will sometimes defend and sometimes dont.. at random..
I'm not one of the people who tires to blame the the game for everything that happens, i'm not that good, and i can see that i've left opening that was used by my opponent. BUT i feel AI in my games often played randomly dependant on a match. And not only because i am losing that speciric match, there were matches where i played terribly and won, simply because my AI turned into ultra amazing boosting and automatically would run to ball and intercept stuff, to the point where i was surprised myself. Othgertimes ball rolling at 1 meter an hour will be passed next o a dumb founded player who just stands there(And yes i know i should at this point manually switch to that player to intercept it, but the point is that there are games where my players would not only automatically intercept balls like that, but will also intercept balls that are 10x faster).
Honestly not sure what is causing it, but i've had few matches where i felt game let me win where i didn't deserve it at all lol
I don't trust AI at all, perhaps I should give it another chance... I'm getting like 50+ tackles a game it's a little crazy
You’re 100% right dude, that’s what has been happening in fifa for as long as I can remember. One game the AI plays really well and the other they just do the dumbest shit you can possibly imagine. I don’t know if it has to do anything with player’s morale or something
My biggest issue is my centerbacks overlapping. Im trying to do exactly what youre saying with positioning and my other centerback is following me leaving space on their side for even the slowest striker to burn through. I cant figure out how to fix it

My question, when tackling should I use the analog stick to point in the direction I want to tackle? When I do I just feel like the defender stick their foot out in the wrong direction or just do something different…great video they help out a lot!
Nope you dont need to touch the analogue stick, you can run backwards and press the tackle button, the key is make sure you are holding the running jockey while doing it

Lol this is exactly what’s wrong with the game. The best way to defend? Don’t actually do anything, stand still, sprint in a straight line, jog around a bit in a ‘passing lane’, just run in to the other player, mainly use your DMs. That’s the stupid part too it all works really well and you shouldn’t actually try and do any defending. Unless you’re a much higher level than you’re opponent you should just do as little as possible
“When opponents try’s to shoot from outside the box, let him” can’t remember how many times I conceded ridiculous long range goals. And there’s no way to defend it
Bro, dont give up certain long ranger goals, they are more automatic than some shots in the box, trust me, I score alot of them because people give me the space to
If you are expecting the long range you can move the goalkeeper, but you can see when I let them shoot, its just off-angles its a very very low chance of scoring even if was green timed, its better to let them shoot from range than a clear 1v1, the more you play the more you will learn angles and which angle to score from etc
@@NealGuides i would agree with you about this on fifa 21 or 22 but 23 ? no way trevilla shots are broken and generally shooting outside the box is just busted especially with the addition of power shots
Hey Man, i've watched your video. The problem is when you use Run and jockey, i can see your players are trying to matchup and get the balls when opponent comes closer. I tried it but seems like they are standing and for the whole time and opponent can give passes and scoring goals. Whats setting did you put for run and jockey so that player can give some reactions. I am trying but only time they give reaction when i press pressure button. Hope to get your reply asap😅

Yeah, schlotterbeck, Kehrer, Gvardiol, etc are legit. Your tips are great but sometimes you need to put a bit of pressure on the ball holder and defend cut backs more aggressively
The thing is you're demoing these vids against bad players. Good players will get the ball and hold it on the edge of the box and spam skill moves and quick passes which are not stoppable with player switching being the way it is. Also when they get the ball on the edge of the box the midfielders just switch off and ignore the game which makes overloads very easy. Essentially it's your back line vs however many players they send forward. And the one thing your are not addressing which is the number 1 biggest issue on the game are the cut backs. Please tell us how to defend players full sprinting down the wing and having an easy cut back goal? Even if you stop a few they will spam this over and over until one gets through.
Thats the whole idea, because most people here are not even elite players, if I used elite footage they cant copy it the game is too fast, and secondly even if they do its dosent change, THATS THE POINT IM MAKING, but no one is listening, do you think defending is any different in the higher tier its the same process, its just done quicker, ofc the midfielders are going to switch off, AI defensive is OP as it is do you expect them to track every runner?

@@NealGuides Yes, I've noticed that some players rush his defender into my CAM/ST and RAM him, which make almost imposible to keep ball back to the goal and another thing is strange team press, when 3 opponents attack my player + quick player switching, cannot pass back ball, my Ginola behave then like silver card

How do I get my players to actually be a defensive line? Are you on really low depth? I'm on 50 and if I miss a shot they are all on half way line and have to run back constantly. I wish they stayed in the box to actually defend .

I’ve watched hundreds of youtube videos, with FIFA tutorials and explanations. I can honestly say that, the way you covered this topic, and the clarity, is probably the best FIFA 23 video I’ve watched to date. The examples and explanations are perfect. I played a few friendlies after i watched this video, and watched the goals i conceded. One was where i was sprinting after a winger with my CB, when my left back, controlled bu the AI was already in a good position. In doing so, i left a simple pass for my opponent to his striker. I should have pulled the CB back into the penalty area. Thank you, and keep producing these amazing videos.
All my player have 90+ pace, why do they feel so slow as soon as I get the ball. As soon as I block and start running they take so long to run. Feel like they’re being pulled back
Gameplay and connection play a huge difference in defending. The amount of tackle backs that happen to me or tackling and u don't get posession of the ball. You make it seem like every time u tackle u get the ball which is a huge joke

I feel this video should instead by titled that it's defending your beginners. Yes, all of these techniques are absolutely legitimate and it's a good demonstration. However, I'd be interested in seeing the same tutorial against a higher level opponent out of interest. I already do all of these techniques and effectively, but I still get ripped apart in some games (Div 3 WL, rank 1 rivals)

Neal can defend with goalkeepers for defenders.
I tried it, it only slightly work. In practice, it is not an easy as it looks and not very practical tbh. I would like to see a more challenging opponent and see how your method works!

I think some people missed the point, what he is trying to say show is for defending what's the most important part is the basic i.e positional defending, yes u can get aggressive etc but if u do it while maintaining defensive position that will be best because once your out of position your opponent can use it against you easily

Running towards the opponent's player to intercept is risky it will open spaces for other players

I made it to division 4 with my best ping being 46ms, trying hard to upgrade my home wifi. I am on the best package from my network provider. I stand my ground most times but I think the low ping makes it difficult to go the right place with my defender

Its not bullshit, it 100% exists, but you need to watch that video again, i explain that its important, but you need to realise that a player like eusebio on no chemistry is going to be better than like a gold haaland on 3 chemistry for example. If your asking me maybe Lehrer or that other Lacrooix card, Marq just a bit too slow imho
Dude I'm doing something horribly wrong, I'm getting on average 50 tackles, everything is manual defending... I feel like every game is a marathon... Any tips please ? My opponents get like 10-15 tackles I'm on 50+ every game
the legendary difficulty cpu still destroys me even using these tactics. Nothing I've tried has worked to beat it

Hi all NEED HELP please ! Can anyone tell me why my opponent constantly charges me down like they are the terminator intercepts almost every pass, Smashes me off the ball the entire game and either kicks me to the floor or kicks the ball away before I can even blink let alone pass. They rarely go offside or get penalised yet if I move the ball into space even 1cm, I am immediately offside. They are literally 3 times faster than me no matter what team they are. They score ridiculous headers nearly every corner and block nearly every shot I take with a defender or goalie. Often their defender is literally standing on my boots as soon as I get the ball. I’ve been playing 20 years and I’m not crap. I think it could be a server or internet speed issue but it’s seriously laughable and unplayable. I’ve tried multiple console, different addresses, multiple discs and even deleted my account totally and started fresh. I’m using Telstra basic 50mps maybe it’s too slow ?? - Wondering if anyone else has this issue and knows why it’s like this ? It’s doing my head in and I’m desperate for answers so I can fix it ?? 😢😢 Btw, these are div 6 players doing this 😂😂

I just feel that when ever I get the ball, I feel as if I have no one to pass to and therefore I have to either do risky backwards pass or I'll get pressed down before I get the chance to pass the ball on to another player. It's almost as if when I have delayed gameplay none of the AI for any of my players seem to work i.e, players don't press up with one another or my defense will just stand still - but then again, having 4ms probably helps in game. I'm stuck on 30 to 50
Do you do L1 triggers? Are you doing the 1-2 passes to create space or you just doing regular ground passes and thats it?
@@NealGuides I try to do LB passes as often as I can, most of my games I end up with all of my attackers really far up the field (I only play on 56 depth) and therefore passing through the midfield becomes difficult when I do finally have someone to pass to they seem to always be on top of one another and as you can imagine that too isn't ideal - appreciate the reply

Dude, I do this exact thing and I don't think defense is my issue, it's actually scoring. For some reason, when I have breakaways and have a counter attack, I feel like I CAN NOT get off of their center backs even when I'm already past them, even with players like Mbappe, etc. meanwhile, their Mbappe just skates right by all of my defenders no issue at all times. I've never experienced anything like it.
But if hes skating past your defence are you really defending the right way? because if you stand still and hold your ground while defending the angle, they cant get past you, they will run into you
Modrnlol I have same issue my tactics are so botched I never have a defensive line to use nor attackers making runs etc. Every game I'm 2 down in first few mins

Show us what division is that, because opponent is playing like division 8. Against opponent like that is everything easy

I'm currently in Div4 and playing with WC Ake and VVD as CB. 1st no one is playing like your oponent even in div 4 and above, 2nd every attacker is penetrating my defence just like they were stickes, looking at ball when it passes by, no auto interception, 3rd simple trick in penalty area, ball roll or fake shot and defender died, dont know what happens (when just standing in defence line), 4th passes across the penalty area are killers, defenders doesnt try to intercept, when trying to do that maunaly of course it creates a gap. Sometimes when I'm trying to keep def line whole line gets to deep into my penalty area even that I have 45-55 deep set in tactic what creates space to some f****ing random shot which always is a goal. Those are not excuses, those are facts. I agree that I'm s*** player even that I''m playing fifa for 8 years, all the time trying to be better and better, but there are mechanic even you use, if fifa decide you will loose you will loose no matter what, cannot sometimes perform simple short pass to my player....
all my other defending videos are in higher divisions, its the same thing in the elite division just faster, you have to swithc players and defend, if someone ball rolls you do you not try to mirror them? are you watching your gameplay back, this is the problem a lot of people dont understand the game, and for example a video like this, they make excuses, this was done deliberately as an example
@@TheStrawa60 yes I agree with you. If game decides you will loose, you will. Sometimes my players are moving, defending, running. But sometimes they are like cones in training. I must drag them back to defence manualy. Many passes go to the opponent, keeper saves my shots. Opponents making super strong tackles, etc. Game is not equal to everyone.

Its called next switch indicator, can be found in settings, when you press L1 / LB button you switch to that player, it basically tells you who you going to switch to

not until you are div 1/ elite level imho you dont need it because it will jeopordise your defending until you understand the basics
