@@King__Tone EXCEPT the Nets had that with Harden Irving and Durant. Granted some of it had to do with injuries but in a 7 game series..when you are super top heavy, its easier to exploit. At least in my opinion.

The Lakers got rid of their 3rd "star" and replaced him with depth, went from the play-in to the WCF. Denver won it all and their depth played a big part of it.
At the end of the day this trade is just gonna solidify the Nets drafting superstars with those Phoenix picks several years from now.

@@King__Tone the problem is the team construction. Who would play with big 3. Wainwiright, Payne, Okogie, Craig, Biyombo, Landale. Any team would have easy doing def assignments. Lakers, Nuggets, Celtics and Heat proved the importance of the bench. Herro was out MIA went to Finals. Imagine one of PHX big 3 getting injured. They are destroyed having only two healthy stars and no quality in the rotation.

Take a look at bench effect pre-deadline LAL and post-deadline LAL. GSW'22 and GSW'23.
Also Celtics are the best example of being premanent contender with quality rotation.

Phoenix actually had a GOOD bench. TJ Warren, cam Payne, Terrence Ross, jock landale, bazely, and co. were capable players. I never felt like our bench was lacking in the regular season. Monty just REFUSED to play them in the playoffs until the second half of round 2. By that time they weren’t in rhythm. You can’t sit decent players all playoffs then as a last resort call them up and expect them to be great. In my opinion coaching was what made our bench look worse than it was.

Cowherd has been a contrarian his entire career. It’s how he made it to the top of nation-wide sports talk from his small market beginnings in Portland Oregon. When he was in Portland I heard him once say he based his entire radio program off Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern, meaning shock and contradict the mainstream opinion. It’s his modus operandi. Fox Sports doesn’t pay him to have accurate takes, they pay him on his ratings.

@@daliguj221’d say it’s re contextualising his career. Suddenly we see, damn, this guy has had incredible teams everywhere he went, never not with at least 2 all star calibre players and the only place it worked was a team that already won and that season prior had the greatest regular season ever.
I’d say it makes him look less like this kingmaker that elevates franchises, and more like a cherry on top of a cake.
I also don’t agree he’s played great the last two years, I think he’s had great regular seasons and the last 2 years has been exposed as either not being able to take physical play at his current age, or perhaps was never played like this before. Because the only time he scores regularly in the post season the last two years, it’s been both inefficient and riddled with turnovers.

the thing with this trade is that they didn’t give up much of anything. if things don’t work out, they could flip any one of these guys and could get a haul of depth that they want. they could easily flip ayton for a couple of undervalued role players or get a consistent defensive big, like myles turner
Having a good bench is really just having 3 impactful guys. An 8 guy roster. Brown, Braun, and Green were incredibly impactful during the playoffs for Denver. Thats what phoenix needs and they won't get it for how much cap space they dont have
Suns get Boogie, Beverly and resign Landale. That would be a solid bench using the vets minimum

He’s got a point though a good starting offense you can work around the bench rotating players. As long as they’re not complete trash you can make average bench players look amazing with one or two starters leading the way.
It’s the right move by the Suns. Suns already had cap issues. Name the player the Suns would have signed if who is better than Beal if they stretched CP3. There isn’t one.

Goes to show that people don't learn. It's not the lack of depth that will be the Suns’s doom, it'll be the fact that their top three are made of glass. No one doubts their talent, it's their sustainability that's in question. That's why I don't see a deep run for them. The Beal trade made the Suns worse, not better.

More like a team of mercenaries usually fail. Part of why the Warriors have had sustained excellence is by being able to attain and retain talent from the draft. Free agency and trades should be used to fill gaps, not your source of sustenance.

Yes, this is coming from a nuggets fan but the amount of self-righteous justification in this video and the conversation between the two, not just Colin's monologue, is a little loud for me. It's pretty hard to say the suns are now so good when it's apparent they can't overcome injuries. And I'm not saying Denver or any other team really is any different, but if you can't overcome injuries, I don't care how good the culture is, now there's a little disrespect headed toward Phoenix: I have to see it.

Phoenix bench is essentially the same minus Shamet. They gave Denver a bit of a challenge and theyve only been playing 1/8th of a season.
Monty never used the bench players bec he doesnt know them well yet. Vogel is a defensive coach, he'll work with what he has.
All talk about chemistry and comparison to other superteams not working will go out of the table once this team gets to practice and play together with a good coach.

Kings are a young team learning to win. Miami had to put bench players in starting roles so many times through the regular and post season. It’s not just about scoring. That bench stuff was painful

Phoenix's three stars are indeed everything you say they are. You know what else they are? Injury prone. History says so. There is a high likelihood that this will be the Brooklyn Nets (remember them?) part deux if Phoenix can't assemble a good, reliable bench. Riding 3 injury prone stars heavily along with a thin bench doesn't seem like a recipe for success to me in today's NBA. But who knows? Maybe they'll somehow bottle the lightning.

What Colin is failing to address is that KD and Booker most of the points for the Suns, they literally had no one else who could score, they played a Clippers team without PG and Kawhi and lost to Denver, they need a bench Colin otherwise it'll be the same as this year
Well the bench points thing is kind of in context, the spurs and pacers were losing a lot so they probably rotated more than the winning teams
Genuine question how many passes do the clippers get, I get that something always is going on but they get the most passes in the league, at some point people need to stop with the “what if” because that is not the reality 99% of the time
I disagree with Colin because he knows people are talking about depth, not just bench. Suns lack players like Bruce Brown, KCP, Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and Caleb Martin and they can't add this type of players either due to the lack of financial flexibility. This is like the 2022 Lakers all over again, after the big 3 or 4, the drop off is steep, and they haven't played together for a very long time.

Chris Paul to the Clippers - he played for the Clippers previously. Paul is always injured. The Clippers are a star struck franchise. They need to return to San Diego because their name is more appropriate for that city. San Diego is building a new arena anyway.
Does Colin not realize that the value of a bench isn’t all about scoring? Having bench players that can rebound, facilitate, defend etc gives your star players more room for error. Yes you don’t need a top 5 bench to win a title, but you also ain’t winning a title with the worst bench in the league.

Beal has been hurt a lot and cost a fortune. Suns can’t sign anyone. KD has been hurt a lot too and Beal has the same skill set as Booker. I assume they trade Ayton for depth but I believe they’re over the luxury cap with KD Beal and Booker alone

Colin bench scoring isnt the important part. It's the entire rotation. Bench +- is whats important. Warriors starting five was the best +- in the league. Their bench was down there with the worst of the league. Defense, and cohesiveness matters. Also being able to let your starters rest. Kd and booker (mostly kd) cant play 40 minutes a night. A lot of that could've been on Monty but it is also on KD. Hes been that way since being in Brooklyn and it isnt sustainable.
I understand Colin’s point but they will def have a bottom 5 bench. Doesn’t mean they can’t win, but to say they’ll have a top 12-15 bench is lunacy
