  • Picking a good location to stay in Rome is the most important decision of your trip. After staying in more than 2 dozen locations throughout Rome we recently stayed a few nights in the Monti neighborhood. This was our first time staying in Monti. Monti neighborhood is located just north of the Colosseum. We really loved Monti and especially liked having 2 metro stations in the neighborhood to help make getting around Rome a breeze. We stayed in the Monti area during the slow season. We enjoyed being close to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum as well as so many other things. Monti offers several great restaurants, pizzerias and many other shops.
    In this video we explore Rome and how to navigate Rome's sites from Monti. If you are planning a trip to Rome be sure to watch this video before booking your hotel. Enjoy!

    I agree the Monti is an excellent neighborhood. One year we stayed near the Cipro station, up behind the Vatican. We took the metro all the time. Another time we stayed in the Monti and didn't use the metro since everything was within easy walking distance. Though the same for the Campo de Fiori area. We actually stayed across the ally from Roscioli's, inside the footprint of Pompey's Theater. Later this week we are staying in Trastevere. A neighborhood that we have wandered into but never really explored. Great video. Walking is the best way to see Rome. There are hidden gems at every corner and in between. Here's a tip. There is an underground walkway from the Spagna metro station to the Villa Borghesi at the Porto Pinciana gate.

      I like that tip! I’ll check it out. Hope you enjoy Trastevere. Next to the Conrad supermarket there’s a great place to get fresh suppli called Suppli Roma. So good! Also, if you like Naples style pizza, the best that I have found in Rome is out on the main road and it’s called Pizza Re 77. Have fun.

    I always learn something new from your interesting and informative videos - thanks! I’ve done all the usual tourist sites and am always looking for new lesser known points of interest - as well as places to stay and to eat. Monti is new for me so it’s now at the top of my list. My question is- you talk a lot about metro stations to get around from Monti. I always walk everywhere so I don’t take the metro. Last time I stayed by the Spanish Steps and walked to Trastevere, Monti, Vatican,etc. Sorry for all the blah, blah - wish I could visit Rome as often as you do!! Thanks again!!😊

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Před 3 měsíci

      I often stay near Largo, Argentina, and Trestevere, where there is no metro so for me this time being next to a metro, I took advantage of it when I was in the Monti neighborhood. You can still walk too many things from there a bit far to the Vatican And some other sites so it’s nice to be able to walk out and explore and then find a metro to get back to Monti easily. I’m curious what did you think about the Spanish steps area as far as staying there? I did one time about four years ago. The air is beautiful, but I felt like it was overpriced and kind of like a large shopping mall. I guess if you’re into shopping, that would be the place to be but for me, I prefer areas a little more, I guess authentic.

    We have returned from our Italy vacation. The first 5 days was in the Monti area of Rome. Great location. 5 minute walk to the Colosseum. First day we took the Hop On Hop off bus. Gave us a great overview of the historical area of Rome. We walked pretty much after that. Get up early and you can miss the crowds. 👍

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Před 2 měsíci

      Very true the crowds don’t really get going until after 10 AM so if you don’t mind getting up early, you can kind of have the city. While it is peaceful.

    We stayed in Monte last February/March. We liked it. It was fun at night time and things were definitely easy to get to. We are actually going to be there the same time this year. But we decided to try the Trastevere area this time.

      @RozierRoma  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It is great to switch it up. Trastevere is one of my favorite areas for sure. You will be walking a bit more but the walks are very pleasant. The food is great in Trastevere! Thanks for watching! Great pizza at Pizza Re 77 on the main street in Trastevere. Give it a try.

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes just once. It was very nice but you need more time as there is no high speed rail yet so cities take more to to travel between. Palermo was interesting but I like Naples better. I do not know Sicily very well just limited time there. My favorite cities in Italy in order are Rome, Naples, Florence, Sorrento, Siena, Verona. There are others. I personally do not care too much for Venice. It kind a seemed like an amusement park to me, very pretty but not for me.

We’re now going to stay at Waldorf Astoria. But I feel like we’re still kind of far away from everything. Any thoughts? Can’t wait for your book to come out! We’re planning on going back in 2026.

      @RozierRoma  Před 2 dny

      OK I had to look up the location. If it is the Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, yah that is a bit out of the way. You can use a taxi however to get around but metro, busses or waking are a bit of a challenge. The hotel look wonderful but when I think you are there to see the city and not relax at the pool and spa? Although that does sound goog. Arn't you going on a cruise from Rome? If you are there will be plenty of time to relax on the boat. May i suggest you look into Hotel Santa Maria in Trastevere. It is a boutique hotel that I think you will really like if still available. Give that a try and if they are full let me know and i can refer additional options for you. All the best!

    So the trick to get to Sicily is to take a night train. It’s like paying for transportation and lodging all in one. If you book in advance, it’s a little cheaper not to mention you can have some rooms with bathroom and a shower. You should also thy the Apulia region. I think they have the best wine. We really liked Naples Verona and Siena. But Bolzano was a huge surprise. We went there for Otzi the iceman and was surprised that it was so different. It’s more German.

      Bolzano was historically a German city. It was annexed to the Italian state only in 1919 and only after that Italianization occurred. Today 25% of the population of Bolzano and the vast majority of the countryside is still German.

    I'm going to Rome in a month and I was wondering if I book a ticket for a guided tour of the Colloseum & Roman Forum, the guided tour usually lasts for 2.5 hrs, when the tour is over, will we be able to remain in the Roman Forum and just walk around without the guide, or once the tour is over we have to get out?
    I'm asking because from what I understand there's guided tours and there's just plain entering tickets with no guide where you're on your own and can stay as much as you like.

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You ticket to the Colosseum will be for a specific time and once you leave I do not believe you will be able to come back. On the other hand your ticket is also for the Roman Forum and that can be re- entered for the next 24 hours. You can come and go. Sorry I am not sure on the Colosseum but I think it is only once..

    ANother great video. What is your comparison between Metro or bus in Rome? What is more convenient?

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I take the metro whenever possible as they are fast and direct and they come every few minutes. However they do not service all areas so I end up also taking the bus. Sometimes I take the bus just to go a few blocks down a street just to save some time. Busses do not run as frequently as the metro so that is also a consideration. Both can be crowded but at least on the metro it is for a short period of time. Well that's my opinion.

    • @RozierRoma
      @RozierRoma  Před 2 měsíci

      unfortunately I do not offer any tour services. I do have some good videos to help you choose a good location to stay while in Rome. I usually stay in AirBnB's but there are very nice hotels as well. From the airport may I suggest just getting in line at the official taxi station right out in front of the terminal. Do not let someone solicit to you as they likely will not be an official taxi. Oficial taxis are white and say taxi on top, they are not unmarked black sedans or vans. The official taxi will take you for a flat 50 euro up to 4 people. They may also charge you 1 euro per bag. Getting a taxi at the airport takes less than 10 minutes, there are so many taxi the lines go very fast.
