  • Judo BAG WORK; for when you want your turn and don't want to share, or just a solo workout, or why ever just to throw around something inanimate and feel good.
    Sam shares this impromptu workout.
    I reckon we need to dress it in a gi jacket and add pool noodle arms, then a smiley face and just WOW.
    Thanks S.V.

    In other words, you can train with a punching bag too. As long as you make sure you can command the bag without losing your form. Which is very hard. Makes it worth it though.

    Is that Canterbury university judo club ? I too wonder about whether a throwing dummy would be better ? I wonder if you could put a judo gi on a throwing dummy. There are cheap unfilled throwing dummies on e-bay. Anyway, good video.

    How heavy of a bag do you use/recommend?

    • @JudoLife
      @JudoLife  Před 4 lety +8

      not very heavy, 15-20 kg. It can easily be made heavier by placing a bag of sand in the middle, if you want. Cut the straps off, perhaps use a judogi jacket and belt, give it some arms, a substitute training partner. I want to do that with it. Perhaps short strong stretchy band arms, and a tied up bag.

    Lol I try this shit all the time on my jiu jitsu gyms dummy because it has arms but it's a little too heavy

    • @JudoLife
      @JudoLife  Před 4 lety

      That's kind of what the video shows, however your style and timing need to be your own. I suggest you try and copy a technique and see how the timing fits what you do already.

      It is an old (second hand because the straps broke) 1.2m high x 30cm diameter kick bag with the straps cut off and the top sewn/laced tight.

    Not sure it's the most efficient kind of training...

    • @JudoLife
      @JudoLife  Před 4 lety +13

      Absolutely not efficient, but sometimes we have to work with what we have. Training with others is preferable.
      But quality training partners your own weight is an issue in a back country like ours at the edge of the World.

    have you already tried to put a gi around this bag to get a solo workout? since the corona crisis it seems like a good idea.

    • @JudoLife
      @JudoLife  Před 4 lety +2

      excluded from dojo/gym at this point of virus we are still in lock down, but yes I did earlier but I didnt video the session. It seems a logical thing to try bag with gi on and pool noodle arms with stretchy rubber through the noodles. Thats my next effort when we are allowed to go to dojo, but not allowed to come close to others.

      You can sew it with a tarp for sure, pick a very good tarp and sew it like Wrestling Doll. Cheaper and quite stronger to take punishment too but it may not be as good as wrestling doll but at least you can throw something that like human

    Hi guys for kids dose it cost money?

    • @JudoLife
      @JudoLife  Před 3 lety

      Yes, usually the parents pay. I give a week or two free to decide, and prices are low compared to many other activity options. Our closest cousin in sports is BJJ and we are certainly cheaper and more physical (with stand up) than that, and arguably more fun/challenge because of the emphasis on standing fighting and rolling activities.

    Use a grappling dummy for crying out loud!

    • @JudoLife
      @JudoLife  Před 4 lety +7

      Grappling dummies are not as good. They either have only a torso, no legs and short arms like a crucifix shape, or the legs break easy. AND soooo expensive. No I am opting to put a judo jacket on this with bulked arms to try it out.
