It's Kennedy Ground lol. And it's got nothing to do with Kennedy Steve. Kennedy Ground is referring to ground control at John F Kennedy. The airport, which they refer to as Kennedy. Nothing to do with the name of the controller, regardless of the airport.

That's one way to be banned from flying within the US. One thing you dont joke about are relaying that you understand vital instructions that, if not followed correctly, could kill hundreds if not thousands of people. The very fact that they arent allowed to even fly if anything so much as bumps the plane tells you how serious they take those kind of precautions and how serious an infraction it is to confuse or troll the ATC like this.

@@kg.turner1301 No, they are very much related. Know what causes damage to the airframe? Fucking with ATC and having another vehicle smash into the plane because you couldnt follow simple instructions. There's a reason why planes are one of the safest forms of travel, and it's because laws and policies are strict and held to higher standard.

Well they're suppose to be able to understand the English language to be a pilot...
When you learn a language effectively you don't need to translate, you think directly in that language.
Negative , all non native speakers aspiring to be a pilot need to take a fluency test in English
Many Air China Pilots speak fluent English .there's all them one or two oddballs that (god knows how) have somehow passed the test
@saxasoon... ur so correct... that simple miscom...if not caught by either side, could spell an avoidable disaster with possible loss of precious lives!
@Noor Balouch you see it's not learning the english language, most of them could speak it... it's the accent that can be crucial at times for proper understanding/communication.

I died at the "Aspiring to be heavy" one lol. Wish the pilot for the Speedbird had a funny response like.. "Are you calling us fat??"
Once broadcasted my before take-off checks at a very chill controlled aerodrome, after i finished another aircraft responded “you forgot transpnder set to alt” never before have i sunk so far back into my seat than that moment in my life

I love how none of the other aircraft were angry when the guy transmitted his announcement over the radio. They all just gassed him up and said it was a beautiful speech. I’m sure they’ve all done it before too 😂 poking fun at him in a harmless manner
At a place as busy as JFK, too. They probably knew it was going to be at least written up in a report somewhere, so no need to make it any worse for the poor guy.

@@nolanr1400 I'm not a pilot, but after watching a ton of ATC videos, I believe it's something like that. Cluttering ATC comms with irrelevant chatter and blocking potentially important comm traffic can be a big deal. I highly doubt any real negative action would result, but I'm pretty sure it would be noted in the controller's report. I expect the pilot might get a verbal, "be careful what channel your on" warning, possibly a written one since JFK is so busy. If he continues to key the wrong mic in the future, it would be a trail of evidence for negligence or unprofessionalism. But it was obviously a mistake (probably one every pilot has bad dreams of), so if it's his first time, he probably suffered little more than a really red face.
Trust me, there have been other lip slips that were not as innocent.
If I were one of the other pilots I'd totally have responded "roger, remaining in the pilot seat, seatbelt on"
I would have gotten so frustrated with Air China. They didn't seem to understand that the ATC was asking them a question. Sounds like the controller I call "Mr. Grouch", but in any case it would have been frustrating for anyone. A simple yes or no was all he was looking for.

I kinda almost hoped that they wew NOT cleared to enter the ramp and see what happened. Altho that would cause serious traffic snarl if they were not cleared and meet another airplane heading out that WAS cleared. Betcha the ground controller half hoped the same thing too. Hmm, that ground controller sounds familiar, isn't that the famous one who starts using the "Earth" call sign if the pilot he's calling does not respond to repeated inquiry?
@@TheGhostGuitars That was the now retired Kennedy Steve. When he was not receiving an answer to his transmission he would say "Earth to ..." (put plane here). He is missed. Hilarious controller but still got his job done.
@@Cissy2cute The controller with Air China 981 was not Kennedy Steve, although Kennedy Steve is the guy famous for "Earth to..." This controller has been on several ATC videos before, and always seems to be grumpy and impatient.
@@arenlykos2421 I'm sorry, I realize my post above was ambiguous. I meant that Kennedy Steve used the "Earth to ....". I listen occasionally to LiveATC and the one you mention is the one I call "Mister Grouch". I don't think I ever heard him crack a joke. He sounds like he hates his job. Even so, kudos to him for doing it well. He just lacks humor.

Roger, cleared to the ramp
That interaction with Air China, the lack of understanding from the pilot, that's how accidents happen. ATC is asking a question about clearance to taxi and the pilot takes it as permission to continue and could end up crossing a hot runway. You can hear the emphasis when the controller tells him to Hold his position.
@@JohnSmith_nz or maybe, and hear me out, maybe it's a FUCKING REQUIREMENT to become a international pilot you have to be proficient in English and it doesn't matter what your country of origin is? Maybe?
@@oryan4395 Is it, though? As far as I know, the ICAO has six official languages, Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and of course English.
@@adrien5834 ICAO and the FAA require a level 4 understanding and proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English in order to fly under their organization. A quick Google would have answered your question.

I was at an airport in my mini plane a few months ago and we were listening to ATC ground enroute to the runway. Delta pilot did his entire flight briefing for the pax on the ground frequency. Ummm ladies and gentlemen it's about 2hr 15 min flight to Atlanta...blah blah blah. Appreciate you keeping your mask on throughout....blah blah blah. Afterwards no one said a word then I heard a pilot pipe up and say "I ain't wearing my mask though" and ATC and all of us laughed it up. ATC threatened to call the police on the non mask wearing (jokingly)
I used to be aircrew on Navy P-3C Orions, one time my pilot called for an emergency drill on a UHF radio instead of the ICS: "Crew from the flight deck, this is a drill, this is a drill - activate the fire bill." The Norfolk controller came back and asked "Does that mean us down here too, sir?"
The Air China pilot needs to be grounded until he Learns English. He is dangerous.
In the last one where the pilot transmits the message intended for the passengers, I made up the image of all the other pilots and the ATC all just getting a WTF look on their face as they all slowly look at each other.

As an English as second language speaker, the Air China part is somewhat understandable. The pilot may have mistaken intonation on question/directive. It happens sometimes.
Something like that occurred to me. OTOH, Chinese is loaded with intonations. With that kind of experience, I would have expected the pilot to pick up on it.

Lol haha I love pilots, at Sanfrancisco airport a pilot when I was 13 and riding by myself to Arizona the flight was Southwest Airlines, the pilots let me start the engines and flip all the switches and once in the air they let me sit in the cockpit and (sort of fly) they knew I liked planes and knew my shit.
